I've been marking my personal maps up for a long time - things like marking where I saw a mob spawn or sit for a long time. The interesting thing on the poacher here is I've seen animals, insects, and even the a_diseased_xxx_corpse sitting in the exact same spot. A group member went around opening all the corpses, and about 20 mins later, we had a poacher.
Zoned in. Requested the task. Ran out to the opening just south west Poacher (1) on the hill. Slightly south of that poacher (2) was another. Continued south another (3) on the hill. 4th poacher I found midway between the lake just NE of hut by the water. Total time 30 min from first to last kill.
After reading all this, I was worried about another complex and rare spawn trigger. I took a different approach:
I brought my druid and tracked. Two poachers were up and on track they were right next to each other (on my time sort). This means they spawned basically one right after the other or together. These two were standing withing eyesight of each other and very near to the BB entrance. This was at 4AM gametime - they were already up.
I killed them and ran around the zone. I tracked everywhere. I watched game time. There was no gametime trigger. These mobs did not respawn at 7PM or at night or at any other time.
I went back the next RL day and repeated this. They were not up. Two poachers spawned in the Southern part of the zone. Again, these were near each other and at the same spawn-track-time order meaning they spawned together, definitely. Again this was not at 7PM gametime nor at night or anything. I remember that distinctly, but I don't remember the exact gametime this time (I think it was 9PM gametime).
Now, here are a couple thoughts from my observations:
-They always spawn in pairs -Being two, there is unlikely one PH -Their spawn is not linked to a specific game-hour
Remember Hadden (old-timers will)? The fishbone earring was a hot item back in the day. Mastering Hadden's spawn cycle led to EQ riches. I did that. Rounding up the number for illustration: Hadden spawned every 200 to 230 minutes. It was RANDOM but always between that minutes. So once he died, start a timer and he will respawn randomly between 200 and 230 minutes later.
My point is this : the spawn timers can truly vary so the clock thing may be mis-leading.
I foudn the best bet was to just check track and if he isn't up come back later.
7PM Game Time, Southern portion of the zone.. Location +364, -430. Right next to a cpl of trees.. killing a skeleton ph that roamed from this point. These guys are uber rare.
Been looking for these guys for a couple days now. Guess I will start the wholesale slaughter. Spawn time of 7pm mentioned on the quest page for "Poach the Poachers" is inaccurate (at least on the Bertoxx server).
Bard friend/guildie and I did this last night, on the south end of zone, Bard pulled anything with two legs (Skellies and Zombies). Once repops started, we had 3 in a row pop, back to back to back. Much better than the two random kills i happened to get before, searching the zone for hours.
I've found them most frequently on the south side of the zone, between the wall and the base of the first sizable hills. Some do have placeholders, and seem to spawn from just about anything. Even an infected animal corpse.

Although they can spawn anywhere in the zone All the ones i tracked while doing the Poach the Poacher's quest were up and down the western edge of the zone. Spawn time was a bit slow. One popped on track about every 15-40 minutes. They can spawn in pairs and generaly take the same path. Oh, and they do not have PH's.
