Poison = Pain
# May 11 2002 at 5:36 AM Rating: Decent
Been working on the new bard armor, made it to level 10 and only have the breast plate to go, now the pain is that if they conn even to me (a non-twink w/ the quest sword 8/30) I can rarely kill them but regardless of their level 4 out of 5 battles ends up with me killing them then dieing befor I can bandage and healing song myself to non-poisoned. of the other 1-in-5 I either get killed or barely survive, although I must say my bandageing skill has much improved since trying to get the dark weed snake bile.

Death to Darkweed Snakes!!!

These guys are easy for my 11th lvl Ranger. Poison though effective doesn't seem to take me down very often. For some reason I have been getting very good loot from these guys. I just got a Drkae skin leegings, and not that I'm complainig but I'm not sure ow the heck it got on one of these. Over all I would reckomend these to 9 to 12 Rangers as very good prey!!

I just dinged level 12 on these things. My recipe: Find a good camp where they travel by alot and cast treeform. It's 5hp regen really helps slow down the effects of the poison. Start by casting Shield of Thistle to give them a nice 6hp every time they hit you. Melee attack while peppering with Ignite. Be sure to save a bub or two of mana, because if you do get poisoned, it takes three casts of cure poison to get rid of it. By the way, make sure you've got Cure Poison memmed, or you could be in trouble.
Cleric Soloing
# Jul 01 2001 at 5:59 PM Rating: Default
I am a 12th lvl DE cleric and I love hunting these solo. Started at lvl 10 fighting them. They spawn near the EC/Nektulos zone entrance, so you can fight them there and escape if need be, plus players are always walking past you buffing you for free as they zone. I make sure to have "endure poison" on me first and then start hitting on them. If I should get poisoned, I merely "root" it, step back, use "cure poison", heal myself backup to full hp, and then step back in the ring for some more fighting. Have risen two levels just fighting these snakes soloing. Only died once when I somehow rooted myself and could not get free quick enough.
Snake Meat
# Jun 21 2001 at 7:01 PM Rating: Decent
Just looted a snake meat from one of these today, anyone know what it's for? new recipe perhaps? I've never seen a snake meat drop from these before so I'm curious.

It's for baking. I got some from a friend who was gathering meat for me. (He was a higher lvl and can get meat that I couldn't) and got a few stacks for me. They make snake pickles (snake meat, hug of sauce, and vinegar) and snake steaks (snake meat, jug of sauce, spices).
Odd

I went to EC with my 11 lvl necro and took on a blue one of these to get a little bit of experiance while my friend bought something. It was blue and it made short work of a lvl 11 necro and his pet with a mino axe... these are tougher than they seem
Ever hear of a BOW?!?
# Mar 14 2001 at 8:57 PM Rating: Default
How to hunt just about anything and not get hurt:

1) If you can't cast spells then you can use a bow (monks being the exception)

2) Have your casters root the critter

3) Pepper the sucker with arrows

If you're a Ranger and you're high enough that you can cast the Snare spell, then there's no reason why you can't kill anything that cons yellow and anything else within three levels of you assuming you've got the room to retreat backwards.

No problem for a troll
# Mar 14 2001 at 8:46 PM Rating: Default
I love being a troll - I get rabbies from mummies - didn't even know it was a problem till I watched a non-troll buddy keal over from them. I get bit by all kinds of poisonous stuff and the few times that I do fail the save, the poison itself has little to no effect on me - while other people are panicking and screaming for healing and antidotes, I just sit back and enjoy the buzz. :)
Deadly Poison
# Feb 21 2001 at 10:06 AM Rating: Default
I just newly arrived at WC as a 12 Wiz. Rooted one that con green to me and to my surprise I got a little XP. Went for a blue and it managed to shake off my root then poisoned me, after killing it with a few fizzled spells and being poisoned during the battle I settled down to Med. To my horror my hits continued to fall without stopping until I died.

There poison is deadly, but nice XP and Loot.

I only really have trouble when my Root fails.

The poison...

The poison on one of these things can make 3 full groups drop dead. Seen it happen, aint pretty.
asps vs darkweeds
# Feb 10 2001 at 2:54 PM Rating: Decent
the first couple times i went to WC i fought these things @ lvl 9 and never once was poisoned. However the first time i fought an asp i was poisoned very quickly. this leads me to believe that asps venom is more easy to get hit with than darkweeds.
Don't Let Con Fool You!

Even if these snakes con green or blue...their poison will kill you. Nasty stuff!
Bad medicine
# Sep 16 2000 at 7:39 AM Rating: Decent
Someone told me to leave these things alone until level 15 or so.. but since I was close to level 10 and there didn't seem to be much else around, I found one in EC that conned blue to me and then went ahead and fought it. I was hit with poison almost immediately.. but ultimately killed the snake with just a few hitpoints left. I bound my wounds and cast gate on myself to get back to friendly territory..and fell unconscious from the poison as soon as I was back in FP. Fortunately, a very nice enchanter saw me materialize and collapse... he healed and buffed me on the spot, saving me from death and from losing experience that would have delayed my reaching the next level. It will be some time before I touch one of these guys again :)

Actually, if you are a mage like myself, cast a water pet that will totally negate the effects of the poison.

NEWBIES
# Aug 08 2000 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
I just want to inform you all that I am an expert on the commons. I have hunted there at least half my Everquest life. The Darkweed snake's poison is VERY powerfun. One totally wiped out a roup of 1 lvl 7 Pally, 1 lvl 6 Enchanter, and 1 lvl 6 Wiz. Sometimes newbies mistake them for moss snakes, and then...
Got from 8-11 off these guys
# Jul 14 2000 at 4:57 AM Rating: Decent
I got from level 8-11 fighting these guys. Just send in you water pet. cast shock of blades 3 times (does more than 50% so more exp) and meditate the rest of the fight. Collect the fangs. If it will do any it will always drop 2 almost 1pp for both. asp's are just as good if your in EC.
8th level Mages LISTEN
# Jul 02 2000 at 8:04 PM Rating: Decent
I am a 8th level mage and use nothing but Water pets. I have been hunting Darkweeds for a day now and have the following to tell you....
1) Cast the Bolt spell you get at 8th and then the Shock spell (before the snake gets to you.
2) Cast Fire shield on your pet.
3) Watch you pets life and when it gets to 50%, cast the renew element spell.

FYI, I have been poisoned TWICE by these things and while its VERY painful, if you have 2+ bubbles of life left and have been training your "bind wounds" you will survive the poison.
SWWEEET POSION

Poison
# Jun 16 2000 at 2:41 PM Rating: Decent
Even if these things are only around Level 8, you shouldn't consider about fighting them until they are all blue! They're poison is very, very deadly. No caster up to about level 11 can take that poison without dieing. Fight them if you have a healer near you, or if you have a resist poison buff.
a darkweed snake
# May 29 2000 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
I fought one this morning.
He conned dark blue to me(11th lvl shaman). It was a close fight until he poisoned me, & I kept whaking, killed him & then healed myself, I fell unconscious & died from poison.
The zone was 4 steps way, i should have just zoned. :(
Easy with a pet!
# Apr 30 2000 at 1:40 PM Rating: Decent
These aren't hard for a mage with a water pet. Send your pet after them and stay back and blast them with spells. As most of you probably know, Water Elementals can't be poisoned. I don't know why, but I just know they can't be.
nasty buggers
# Apr 01 2000 at 6:44 AM Rating: Decent
I accidentally hit one with a shuriken when it slithered between me and a fleeing Centurion...killed my whole party, 5 characters, levels 6-9. We just wanted to camp orcs. The cleric bit the dust in the initial encounter and the rest of us dropped dead, one at a time after we killed it. "you have failed to mend your wounds"
Darkweed snakes
# Mar 01 2000 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
Found in both Commons, I used to hunt these with my secondary characters becuase they (a) were ALL over the place, and (b) tended to drop both Giant Snake Fangs (4+ gp) and poison sacks (also 4+ gold).

Since a recent patch, the poison seems to have been significantly upgraded, doing over 150 points of damage - pretty tough for a 10th lvl caster to take.

These tend to be around 8-10 level.

Still Dangerous for the lvl 5-8 as they can still kill you with poison even if you have lvl 50 buffs and survived killing it...
