yeah. i remember in the old days there were a nusance, now when i went to get sum bst spells from oasis one aggrpoed and i sent pet after it like it was a mouse. then saw pet's health go down quite a bit.... ran away....
one time a looong time ago at 3 in the morning i was running around the oasis,i ran into a desert mad man and he said in a snobby english kind of accent "pardon me ,do you have a cup of coffee". that has only happened one time for me but i assure you it DID happen.hopefully someone out there has had this experience it was funny as hell.
Have to camp theese stupid things for DE cultural armor quest, they're one of several mobs that drop raw-hide belt. So easy to kill but I was killin um fer 8 hours before I got a belt to drop. /sigh
I remember these guys. A royal pain in the backside in their time. Now, whenever I'm in the area for any reason, like a LDoN, I kill them every chance I get. I wonder what Holly Winstalker is up to these days...
Know whats funny...they are mad walking around the desert. When you think about it you would think the madness would be caused by the lack of fresh water...but heck, they usually carry like 4 flask on em. Go figure. Also, after all the people they killed you would think they would have looted some better armor or ganged up on Lockjaw for his tunic:)
I still get water flasks off of these guys while waiting for ldons, sometimes they drop quite a few of them. I always keep a stack of water/bread for when I'm sitting on my droggy medding and don't want to waste the good stuff kaledim/misty thickets.

Reading through even some of the more recent messages makes me laugh. These guys were what you hunted in the days of old before the expansions. And yeah they could be real nasty if you weren't expecting them.
Desert Madman were a tough nut to crack in the old days. Many a player died from them. They used to sneak up on you and as soon as you heard their casting, you knew you were in trouble. They were undercons for sure, but then again, most caster mobs were undercons in the old days. We did not have the resists then as we do now.
I always liked it how desert madman used to drop all these waterflasks. Fitting loot for the desert areas that they roam. Just one of the many small touches that make EQ's world come alive so much. :)
i've been killing these for the raw-hide armor, but after killing about 40 to 50 of them i have yet to recieve one piece of raw-hide armor, guees it must be a rare drop
Made the run to oasis to get some spells. Was extra careful, dodging around everything that connned ready to attack. This included desert madmen, although they conned dark blue. Anyways, in the end, make it to the gypsy camp. I buy my spells and start looking through what else was on sale. Next thing i know, im rooted and getting blasted 40 hp at a time. I can't even see the caster as im stood in front of a tent. Luckily, I had gate memorised. 1st was interupted, but second got through. Did me for half my hp in the meantime.
I fought in Oasis when was low-lvl, and these things ALWAYS seemed to come up and hit me, they never hit my other group memebrs, even if one was closer to him. Odd, huh? =P
I have noticed since the new patch that fixed the casters IQ, they have been Uber casters. A madman came up to me on the docks and proceeded to smother my **** on the sandy beach. Luckily a healer had just gotten off the boat and heard my cry for help and uber healed me. I then beat the mad man to a pulp.
I would have no doubt lost if a healer had not stepped up to the plate.
It seems that all casters now have the ability to kick **** and take names. I will seek vengence on all Mad men..
I get that too. Annoying as *ell they is. Especialy the ones that cast I've had one agro me (as a level 18 druid to their light blue) from so far away they were a brown twig on a dune. Fortunatly they cast rather weak but they can disrupt your own spells when attacking. I've found if they cast, Melee Em! otherwise keep out of range and blast them, they seem to have a power trade off, one or the other so a caster hits low but a meleer can whoop yah if you aren't ready

When these were white and blue, I would usually avoid the madmen. For the amount of experience you get, you could be fighting something easier which offers better loot. Now that they're green to me, I try to shoot them down before they cause problems since they're aggressive. Also, you need to be careful since some of these are magic users.
Yes, they do drop many low cost gems, including amber, jade, pearls, onyx, bloodstones, and jasper. They also drop the Truthbringer Gem which is part of a low level paladin quest.
im a 16 lvl troll shammy, been runnin around oasis for last 4 levels. These guys always been a problem..they all con green to me at my level now, but that dont stop em from attacking me and causing me pain, they do on occasion pop me for about 70-75 nukes, and they always like to get ya when your busy with somethin else. They do have good loot for the level, and the water is a great drop, anytime in need of something they drop on average 3 water flasks.
I was in oasis the other day killing crocs. and all the sudden a madman comes up and starts hitting me. i conned to him he was green. i started to kill him. but then he started nuking me! for like 75 and stuff. he kicked my butt! big time. so i went back to get my corpse and while i was about to get to it "a desert madman starts to cast a spell" you feel your skin boil you have taken 73 pounts of damage. a madman bashes you for 23 points of damage and so on. you have been slain by a desert madman. well i got really mad. went back to get my corpse and then all the sudden a sand giant hits you for 123 points of damage. a sand giant hits you for 93 points of damage. a sand giants hits you for 130 points of damage. you have been slain by a sand giant LOADING PLEASE WAIT....... and so i got really mad then i got a high level to help me get it. so finnaly i got my corpse :)
I was in oasis last night, just kill'n orcs and minding my own business when one of the bastages comes over and hits me for 33 point of non melee 3 time in a row. Sooo....i turned and ran for a lil bit (with sow and levitate) i out distanced them rather quickly. Then turned on him with stinging swarm, and ice cascade both the warrior and the madman fell in no time flat.....STUPID EEEEEEDIOT. Just let me say after lvl 14, druids, there is non better!
I saw one of these guys conned green to me. he attaked me and started whippin my but i had SOW and i ran. He casted a spell on me and hit me like 3 times for 74! He started to follow me i slowed down i was so weak and started casting all kinds of spells and hiting me and crap and killed me real easily. these guys are real tough. especialy for rogues. be careful when around them. i still cant kill casters at level 14! so rogues if you see one at this level or near i suggest you run unless you have alot of HP. SOW wont even help. So i just wanted to tell you be carefull around these guys they are very dangerous.
