I had the full set of Phantom Chain (coif, coat, boots, sleeves, gloves, greaves, 2 bracers) and 2 Swords of Runes drop off Fantoma today. I'm not sure why. Since they are temporary summoned items, you can't sell them, although you could wear them (if you felt like downgrading). Not sure if this is a fluke.
I know this is old, but the reason you found those was an Enchanter had a pet kit from a Magician and used this mob as a pet.

an alpha mesa wolf seems to be the PH for fantoma and can spawn on either side of the river the most common location is between the mesa spiders and scout madu on the west side of the river.

The alpha's are not specific PH's for Fantoma. I've killed an entire round of wolves with no alpha's, then had Fantoma spawn twice in a row ( 2 different spots). I've also killed rounds with 2 or 3 alpha's and not had Fantoma spawn. I think any mesa wolf can be a PH, alpha or not.
I have killed the named bear twice and this wolf once so far while doing the armor quests in Mesa. All the times the named spawns were in the same general area, north of Scout Madu (the NPC that gives the armor quests) in the open area next to the bridge and such. Basically in the middle of Ursalua's cave, Scout Madu, and the bridge. Fantoma was wandering right in between Scout Made and the other NPC when I was medding one time, and he was a much easier kiting kill for my (at the time) 42 Necro. He has less HP than the bear, and both of them hardly resisted any spell I cast. Just had quite a few more HP than the normal mobs.
Pretty rare spawn indeed. The named bear, Ursalua, sure spawns a whole lot more often. Got 4 chestpieces for my alts now, but zero pants.
45 Ranger should able to kill Fantoma, just snare and fear (panic animal). You can kill any animal that level up to 52, unless they summon you...

i tanked him on my 40 necro, lol not knowing that i would later need him for quest, but i had no problems with him
Tried to kill with a 45 Ranger. Died, of course. :(

I think she/he pops whereever a wolf can pop which is basically any spawn point in the valley and across the river towards the Mesa snakes.
Has spawned once in the valley near the bridge and once almost on top of Scout Madu. My druid seems to be indifferent to her but she ate my warrior before I realised she had popped :)
I then snared, crud,immolate,drones and rooted - rinse and repeat with the odd combustion thrown in to lay the smack down. I was level 38 at the time and a shame I did not have the quest but the boots were nice.

Not sure if its a random spawn or not, I killed many wolfs (250-300) for many hours and she finally spawned for me at location -1080, pos 350. Hope this helps.

At lvl 41, I just turned, I didn't last long had Fantoma and a bear on me was dead in seconds, thank Veeshan there was a cleric near by with 96% rez and Woot, Reding! Anyway this mob hits for normal 25 - 50, but bites for 124+ and that tendon rip spell sucks, you can even run away knowing your're out matched and out gunned.

This guy spawned on top the hill across the river from the bears for me.He has around 6k hp.He wasnt alive long enough to cast on me so i can't comment on that.
Bears on both sides of the river.. so which side were you on???
