I am an old returning player, never even been to the 'mesa until yesterday. I was playing my 48 HE Druid. Farming bears and wolves... then... slain by a BlackTalon.
Was wiping out bears with my 51 Barb Zerker and Bloodbone Protector (Tank version) when I seen this B.A Griffon killing the Scouts as he came around the corner. after finishing the bear I was on a moved quickly out of the way and curious as to what this massive beast was, switched to my Bloodbone Healer (have 3 Bloodbone's, Teir V, Melee DD, Healer and Tank) and proceeded to throw my axe at him to get the attention. Quickly knocked me down to 81% but my merc had me covered as usual, that is until his spawns finaly caught up to him, attempted to move out of the way but they moved toward us and aggro'd. Pulled him up to the Minohten camp, but all the npc's proceeded to run or stand there so was on my own. Was able to drop Blacktalon himself with no problems, with my merc healer tanking his 3 Raider spawns. attempted to save my poor skelly merc he died but his spawns seem to be even tankier then he was, was only able to get one of them down to 89% before my cleric dropped to 20% and started to run, knew this was the end of the line for me, and proceeded to the BM zone line so I could reach a bank.
was an amazing fight for my zerker, but was just too much for a single and merc with no outside help. recommended if you find him and you aren't 65+ or have at least 1-2 other players in your group, keep your distance or try to keep his spawns rooted as you can read in other comments around here, unfortunately all my zerker has is a leg crippling skill which only stops them from running, but still lets them move toward you. making it useless to attempt to flee.
*(Deathtome - 51 Berserker)* - Dig the grave for your enemy, but don't be scared to bury yourself with them.
Way down at the bottom of the comments, there is some small mention that Blacktalon wanders. He wanders EVERYWHERE in this zone, I was doing the wanderlust stone quest plus doing my own mapping; thank goodness I had superior camo up just to make things easier. I ran into the minohten camp area and ran smack into him and his 4 buddies tearing the place apart and eating the satyrs for a snack. So I ran away (FAST)like the good little 49 ranger I am. Thinking smart, I take off for the tuffein side of the mesa only to find Blacktalon followed me there, everywhere I went he was either there or on his way there. I finally ended up sitting near the BM zoneline, hanging out with Scout Vulu as Blacktalon and his minions paraded back and forth for atleast 15mins before leaving again. Having made the above statement, this is the first time I've run into Blacktalon roaming and I have been hunting in Goru'kar for many moons off and on. I don't know if something set the roaming off or if it is just a random occurence.
I'm amazed no one has mentioned it, but he casts the fear spell: Blacktalon Fear. He casts it so frequently in fact that it must either be an AE proc, or else he's a bard and sings it constantly. It causes havoc with my pet and cleric merc! That is, until I discovered it is classed as a buff rather than a detrimental effect - you can simply click it off. :)
A few days ago I was running to Sunderrock to get a few missing spells when I was set upon by this vile creature. Needless to say, with many a nick in my blade and dent in my shield, I am getting the better of him. Suddenly 3 of his kin appear and things begin to look grim. Dispite uncountable times being summoned, I manage to make it to the Sunderrock zone. I quickly get my spells and head back to avenge the cowardly attack. I changed my spell setup and began looking for Blackthorn again. I was nearly out of the zone when I came across him again. This time when his friends appeared, I began casting root. Again and again, either my spell was resisted, prevented or on the few times it stuck, quickly broken. Again I turned for the safty of the next zone, and again my trusted steed saved me. I fumed a bit, again changed my spells and headed back. THIS time I did not blindly seek out my now honor bound foe, but looked for help to even the odds a bit. I found the help I needed in a fellow Knight, Sir Geresh. We tracked Blackthorn and with Lord Geresh taking the adds, and I dealing with Blackthorn, we won the day. It was not quick as I had hoped (Myself a 75th Paladin and Lord Geresh a 72nd Paladin) but in the end we walked away, while our foe did not.
Your faction standing with Blackfeather Raiders got worse. Your faction standing with Tuffein got better. Your faction standing with Tuffein Leadership got better. Your faction standing with Minohten got better. Your faction standing with Nymphs of the Windwillow got better.
Was easy solo for 66bard beat him down till he spawned adds then faded. Came back and charmed his spawns and sent them at him 1 at a time. he was at 20% when his last add was dieing so i ran in and finnished him off with that add helping me. Got a neck for my 50sk =)
68 Paladin with Bazaar gear, self buffed and little dps aa. All you have to do is make sure to root the adds. Heal with you get around 40%, just in case a root breaks.
Solo'd lvl 65 rogue roughly 9k hp buffs with all the best stuff (temerity, bloodworg, BEA etc.) trick is to split his up from his adds you maybe wanna agro and zone him.. then he'll be walking ahead of his adds, just beat him down a bit, then run so he chases you(And stays away from his adds) had to use all my discs and 2-3 heal pots was fun fight :)
He rejects all movement related spells, so you can't snare him. That makes him hard to pin down. I tried to solo with lvl 51 necro on the fastest horse. He only conned yellow to me, but no bloody chance. You need somebody to tank to pin him down, which means you are forced to tank this guy one way or another. lvl 48's necro pet only lasted for ... I'd say around 15 secs, possibly 20.
I tried to take them out one by one since they follow him. They were easy to single, but when I went to take out Blacktalon, he spawned new ones. So much for that idea
He and his adds (3 blacktalon raiders) all con'd dark blue to my level 55 Wizard.
Luckily, a level 75 monk friend came to the rescue and had little trouble laying him and the adds to rest. He is definitely an undercon, though. He and his adds did manage to smack around a very well geared level 75 monk a bit.
He dropped the Blacktalon Charm Whistle and a Griffon Beak.
Wow this guy was pleasantly strong. He isn't bad, but then having 3 of his buddies beating on you after is a lil scary as a 72 Wizard...my baby bard didn't fare well at all! Been spending a bit of time on my alts in this zone and I haven't seen him before and was curious how often he spawns...if anyone knows! Edit: Thursday night and he was up again. Either a 3 day spawn and I missed one earlier in week or he's on a 5 day spawn cycle.
I've been hunting the mesa spiders for Dorina's Gift quest on my level 42 druid Treehorn. Blacktalon and his 3 escorts path near the entrance to the spider caves. He passes by the same spot about every 20 minutes, from what I can tell. I've not actually timed it; I just go by the fact that I go through 2 cycles of 10-min buffs on my druid before he comes back.
Not sure on respawn timer. I tried to solo him with my 68 necro today and got my butt severly beat up, cuz he can't be rooted or snared and he and his pets stunned me A LOT. Was still fun trying though. Heckuva mob to fight for light blue con, though. *chuckle*
I had trouble with this guy, it was second day boxing so cut me some slack.
Firstly, I found him walking by where the mesa snakes are and he seems to wander quite a bit. I was killing giants for hours, based on post, he didnt show, and then ran into him by snakes when doing armor quest.
Rogue is 75 with 8.8K HP unbuffed and Boxed 53 shammy. No buffs except lvl 53 shammy buffs and I had no potions. Basically you can burn the mob down no problem. You just need to root the 4 adds that he brings.
I will go back for waist item, i got the charm though.
Alright, so i just was camping the dormereks (the giants) i was finnishing off a hunter when Blacktallon came in i tried to draw my mob back and the named griffon added to no avail.....
due to re-starting on another server, I 3 box a wizzard, cleric , and sk combo.... all mid 40s at the time....
wizzy's spells didnt hit once, the cleric has around 3.8k mana and was able to keep up on CH for the sk who has almost 4k hp 1450 ac unbuffed....
i was mostly relying on sk dps and a lvl 35 DS pot i took, however if the adds hadn't swarmed the cleric i would have been fine.... watch out, any lvl 50+healer/tank combo with a ds pot can take it on, just make sure you root the adds, or they will agro your healer instantly.
just took this guy down by myself 71 Mage...I was sad he didn't have anything nice :( put up a little fight...didn't seem much worse then Stillmoon temple mobs.
This is one WAY underconned mob, was green to my level 71 ranger. i used healer pet and several buffs (probably should have used all my self buffs but he was only a green) and he managed to wipe me out after i got him to 25%, can confirm adds of 3 griffons which are rootable, he is immune to all changes in run speed. Mean little fella. Will try again in 24 hours.
Yes, he is an undercon. But according to your magelo (which I will assume is not up-to-date), you may have major trouble. I did him at 70 with minimal problems solo but that is with 9k unbuffed, Conv, Saliks, and all self buffs. Used 1 heal potion but have 4 lifetap procs too. Might want to get a healer there to assist you.
