He is found up in the tower on the left as you go into the shili compound near the zone in from Corathus Creep. Clear to him, up the spiral, casts necto spells, and also has a chest there which yielded a salted fish :o) Dropped druid tunic when I killed him.
He or his placeholder can be found at the top of the tower by the rotting warchest (which usually yields the salted fish or a healing potion when looted).
The aide has no special placeholder model that he pops after; you just have to keep killing the random type Illsalin placeholder until he pops.
