All of the sailfin fish sometimes act as place holders for piranhas and every once in a while for sharks. They also re spawn super fast. farming sailfin fish is a fast way to build up fish scales and fresh fish.

I don't know what the deal is with the Sailfin line of fish, but when you kill them there is a chance they will blow up and do a 400 damage AE Fire DD to everyone nearby. It's actually pretty funny as long as you're expecting it.
