Disease-Ridden Gorilla

Monster
Screenshot

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

This mob will spawn at neg1515, neg75 and then wander to the NW corner of the zone, on the ledge.

Spawn time has been reported recently as 4 minutes, 45 (or 48) seconds. It was noted as being about a minute longer than that in the past.

Best strategy is to initially get a ranger to kill PHs (tottering apes and possibly tottering gorillas) up on ledge while you wait at the spawn point. The PH has less than 4K hp.

  • This mob spawns at -1515, -75.
  • Single-Target Rampages: Yes

As many have commented, kill "a tottering ape", then go to -1524, -90. Wait there. I got it on my 36th try. It takes some time but oh well, its an epic they never said it comes easy.

Anyone know if you can do this PRIOR to Gates of Discord releasing on a TLP?

I killed all of the tottering apes last night and nothing ever respawned. This morning I went a step further and killed all tottering gorilla's and with the exception of two immediate respawns in the northwest corner, nothing else has respawned. I am talking hours here...

If the NPC was created during Gates then that is when it will spawn. Based off the id # of this npc, it falls in line with other Gates NPC's. I went ahead and updated the expansion to Gates.

I'm not sure. I'm on Ragefire and on the Secrets of Faydwer expansion.

I do know I spent over 3 hours killing a tottering ape every 5 minutes at the spawn point for 2 different days with no named pop.

Day 3, 35 minutes, 7th spawn. Disease-Ridden Gorilla.

1. Position the Berserker at loc -1513, -93 (this is where the Disease-Ridden Gorilla will eventually spawn and the loc is approximately half-way between Trakanon's Teeth zone and City of Mist. Leave the Berserker at that location to kill whatever spawns.

2. Send a tracker up to loc 3140, 2700 and look for "a tottering ape". Be advised that the dragon Severilous also spawns within aggro range of this location---just so you know. Once you kill "a tottering ape" at this location, the tracker's job is complete. The placeholders will spawn at -1513, -93 and all the Berserker has to do is kill them until the Disease-Ridden Gorilla eventually spawns.

I'm trying this but I've been here for about 2 hours... This is brutal heh. Seemed to have worked for the spawn though. The ape just keeps respawning the whole time.

Update: Hour 3: A raging jungle gorilla spawned but no Disease-Ridden Gorilla yet.

Exact respawn is 4 minutes 48 seconds (which also lines up with ticks).

I have timed it multiple times with a stopwatch from death to spawn.

As has been mentioned several times, but without a decent loc for the "NW corner" try this.

1. Position the Berserker at loc -1513, -93 (this is where the Disease-Ridden Gorilla will eventually spawn and the loc is approximately half-way between Trakanon's Teeth zone and City of Mist. Leave the Berserker at that location to kill whatever spawns.

Been killing PHs a bit but thought I'd confirm intel so far. Spawn time is fast (not timing it), seems to be a tottering ape every time, found the first PH in the NW of zone where it was said he'd be. I guess ya just have to wait it out. Been an hour for me so at least 10 mobs.

I got mine on 62nd spawn over several days. Then another one on 64th spawn while I was reading Alla on next steps. At least I did run into Severilous when I was looking for the PH one time. She gave me a bag so i guess it was worth it.. Bit ironic that I spent countless hours trying to get Sev years ago.

There is only one single mob named "a tottering ape" in the zone, and that's your PH. No need to kill other apes, tottering/raging gorillas or tatterback apes.
The "a tottering ape" will spawn at the location mentioned every 6 mins, and if not killed it will walk to the NE corner of the zone, up on the higher level.
Position yourself at loc -1525, -90 and send your ranger or druid friend to NE corner to kill the tottering ape (undead model), and you have started the cycle.
The apes that spawn are esay kills for a level 50 berserker, and you don't have to be particularly attentive as it will aggro you when it pops right next to you. The Disease-Ridden Gorilla is a tad harder, but should be no problem with a healing hand to help (merc or druid)

Wrong.
There are more then one "a tottering ape" in the zone. usually 3-4.
It is true tho, that only ONE of these is the ph.

You best track and kill all tottering apes untill one spawns at the spaw loc. Then you just kill the mobs that spawns there roughly every 6 minutes till you get the gorilla.

I can confirm there are at least 4 that can be up at a time. I ran my bard around and killed 4 or the tottering apes through out the zone while the berserker is sitting at the spawn location. All apes are dead and none have spawned since killing them all except for the one where Diseased can spawn.

Got him just now. Went very smoothly. I parked my berzerker at the spawn point and sent my druid up the stairs and killed one tootering ape, In a few minutes, while druid was on top a 2nd Tottering Ape spawned at the zerker and she killed it easliy (level 59 zerker) There were no others on track so ran the druid back down to the spawn point and started buffing, Before I finished casting buffs the Disease-ridden spawned, and died.....we looted and gated out! The main annoyance was that all the apes are undead and see invis, and there are many roaming skellies, so have to kill a few that attack.

Supposed place holder however there's only one up at a time per server and he wanders from the spawn point to the very north west corner with the tottering gorillas. Anyone have any other confirmed PHs?
A Tottering Ape
# Feb 21 2008 at 6:22 PM Rating: Decent
Confirmed today that there are more than 1 "A Tottering Ape". After killing 2 of them ran the the gorilla PH and they started spawning 5 mins and 50 seconds. This camp took me around 6 hours to finally get the Disease Ridden Gorilla to finally spawn, so prepare for a long camp.

After reading these posts it made it really confusing as to if there were or were not more than 1. Again I realize there are multiple other mobs with names alike, tatterback ape's, as well as tottering gorilla's. It was for sure, 2 A Tottering Apes i killed...

Spawn Location is also confirmed at: -1525, -86
P 86.0000, 1525.0000, -328.0000, 0, 0, 0, 3, BER_1.0_PH

Again this post was just to clarify the PH information.
Good Luck with epic all you zerkers!

I used my SK to track and kill the Apes. Cast Sense the Dead, and ran to them. I counted 4 Apes up top, while my Zerker was at the spawn point, so yes, there can be more than one up at a time.

Respawn on tottering apes isn't long. Like 6 minutes to 10 minutes. There is only 1 in the entire zone. I have been killing the one for quite some time just because I was wondering what the heck it was for. And it triggered this guy. No more tottering apes are up.

I can confirm the spawn location is just about -1525, -86, and if you sit down you will agro the spawn. BUT!!! The spawn wanders really far... to the northwest part of the map. I found 2 a tottering ape's up there with my druid. I killed them both, and sure enough 5 minutes later or so one spawned at -1525, -86 where my Berserker was sitting, and agro'd him. I have yet to see the DRG spawn, though. So... Id say run to the north-west part of the map, and find those two tottering gorilla's, and kill them. THEN run to the spawn point I have above to meet the respawn and kill it. Then just sit there, and wait... good luck!

repop time for him (or his ph rather) is 5 min 50sec.

here is a map label for his loc. it wanders north then NW once it pops.. near the NW sector of map / upper ledge area, so you will have to kill the apes there first, to find the correct PH. I had one person tracking/killing apes while i was watching the spawn point for PH.

P 86.0000, 1525.0000, -328.0000, 0, 0, 0, 3, BER_1.0_PH

*if you need a stopwatch, here is a cool program i found. you can set the options so that you can start and stop the timer with a key-press on a button you rarely use such as scroll lock. you can also set the timer to "always on top" and that way it will still be visible when you have EQ up.
