Note he only has this name on TLP servers. At some point they renamed him to Finvakur Icemantle, because they had somehow named two mobs in BoT the same. The map I had showed Finvakur which was endlessly confusing.

To get to him go up to the bees area and use the ice portal. You need to have obtained the key by farming the Ring of Torden and the four gems, one from each wing.

Once you click up you're in these hallways infested with van type giants. Some are SI. You can invis past some of them but you will have to kill some to get past the SI unless you're a rogue. SoS does work. Follow the map to Lower Tower and then Upper Tower. Clicking up to the Upper Tower you will end up with two mobs on your group right away. At least this happens every time I did it. Amble your way down a couple of turns, either invising or killing see invis until you get to the large room inhabited by this named.

I clear the mobs around him including the first set of alcoves in front of him to give me working room. I didn't bother with the second set. Enchanter charmed a kriger. I pulled him to the middle area in front of his spawn and put my casters along the wall behind and my two healers (cleric, shaman) in the corridor we came in from, out of line of sight. This is because this boss has a mana drain but it appears to require LoS.,

Mob has about 415k, damage was like this:

Kriger 137k
Wiz1 86k
Druid 79k
Mage 59k
Wiz2 45k
Enc 11k

Thank Karana for charmed (and hasted) pets!

No Call of the Hero. If your group can't use any drops, they will likely rot.

He will burn mana, but its not a problem for the healer merc

Downed Eindride today with my 3-box crew of 67 Warrior, Cleric and Shaman. Dropped rune, shield, plate BP mold, quest ring and junk. All have 300+ aa's with warrior at 9400 hp and 1675 ac with virtue/FoS, leadership aa's and tribute. Cleric and shammy at 5k mana each. Tried twice within an hour and, obviously, wiped the first time from a big spike and slow reaction.

Was a 15 minute parsed fight and cleric left at about 10% mana with ft 14, clarity potion IX and the 58 self buff. Cast hot on engage, did DivArb once on late heal and CH the rest. Shaman had mana to spare and mainly cast disease dot, highly resisted magic slows after initial disease slow, malo and disease debuff. Shaman spot healed a few times and healed fido a couple times.

I was nervous after the first attempt that either the cleric would run out of mana or repops would occur due to cleric being even with Eindride in mana vs hp with kei and only getting him down to 60% in 7 or 8 minutes. I didn't buff cold resist the first attempt and the warrior's buffed CR was only 200. I'd say he resisted less than half of the ae's on the second attempt.

The key to winning was avoiding the ae on the priests and sustaining dps before repops. The cleric has a moonstone ring bagged for such instances and didn't receive one point of damage while casting CH. The shaman added level 61 fido at ~30dps and panther between the two at ~100dps. He would step in to cast panther but was lucky enough not to get hit. Shaman used spirit call 5 twice to add an additional ~120 dps for the duration of the aa. The difference in the two attempts was the liberal use of the shaman's disease dots (only Pox and Plague) which added another ~40 dps. Total DPS to Eindride was 270-300 due to separate logs needed to compile.

Used defensive twice and in between used an offensive and resistant disc's.

Great fun doing this and camped around the corner to try it again another time.

GBoS is a decent upgrade for my gimp warrior.

Well we went in with 16, MA down at 55 (66 war), SA 50 (67 war) and then me a 64 pally tanking from the 50 to 34, died, and then the raid went with me. =)
Attempted with 5
# Feb 09 2004 at 8:42 AM Rating: Good
Attempted this with 5 bots the other day. 65 war, dru, enc, cle, and shm. Cleared fine and everything but batched it when i got to eindride =/. Aparently his targeted ae can still hit u if you're too close behind. Anyway the cleric was at about 30 mana while eindride was at 90 health. So the tank dies along with rest, except the chanter who i managed to camp out. I think I will try it tomorrow and probably be succesful.

Tried again the other day with a raging storm pet(less breaking) and got him to 60% before slip on CH made tank die. which didn't because cleric was already at 40% mana
Thinking about botting my friends cleric too. pretty sure it could be done with that. I'll let ya know =)

3/21/03 update! got tank few more aas and he would have been dead but cleric and druid got hit with aoe. exodus at about 16% it can be done!

Groupable
# Dec 29 2003 at 10:04 AM Rating: Good
One groupable for non time-geared people. We dropped him a few months back, but since a few guildies have tried since I thought I'd give a little background to add to the posts below.

First our group ake up was Warrior, Bard, Druid, Enchanter, Cleric and Cleric. Enchanter did not have his CoD so he was effectively a low dps option.

Clearing needs to be efficient, as respawns will kill you if you take too long on this guy. Make sure you bring the pulls in singles on your clear so that all the dps can be on the same target. Once the path is clear to Eindride Icestorm move to 100' (easy to test with clerics and ext range items). Ignore mobs in the cubbies they will not aggro. Buff max cold, his second spell is NOT manastorm (that is Agnarr's) but it is raging blizzard ** (PoS and CoS), get the clerics on their horses and elixir tank to go in. Our warrior was 8800 hps or so, clerics alternated CHs as they landed (so 10sec recast) druid patch healed the bard and was primary dps and enchanter wasted his mana trying to slow before we simply told him to go full dps.

Keys to winning: mob placement (pin him so the clerics do not need tomove and can concentrate on healing), bard song for resists meant minimal damage to both our melees; DS (as he is unslowed) to aid in DPS (2 of the bard song have DS component to make it about 100 damage per hit from the DS).

Keys to remember, his dps spikes and lags based on the recast times of his to spells. one is 22 seconds the other is 40, so eventually he will cast both back to back, slowing his dps. Do not let the clerics slow their heals, as then they will get a rude awakening when he goes full out dps for 22 seconds and his dps output "spikes". Warriors make the best tanks here if they have any form of EB, Knights with high resists can also tank well as they will, for the most part, resist his mana drain. Bard is nice to have but does hit you hard on the DPS. This fight came down to 2 clerics with solid manapools (4600+) and good mana regen (nine + voq + horse + ft10+)anchoring the fight. Took 24 or so minutes (2 SotW).

Nice fight overall, feel free to /tell me if you want more.

The main bother with this fella is his AE. Mana drain is a pain.

Pre-engaging (once you've cleared out the mobs near him), get all clerics to within CH range - ER items handy here - your clerics can test CH on the mob himself, but they need to expect to run in a little once engaged, as the MT will be against the back wall.

If you're going to use an ogre MT, make sure he has illusion and shrink - the ogre model doesn't fight too well in corners.

Supernal elixir on the MT, and charge him in defensive.

We use a 3 cleric rotation, /pause 50 on an 8.7k/full defensive aa tank - your mileage may vary.

Spot heals on the MT at the start of the event till the rotation is in place/aggro is established.

Get slow on as soon as you can - we found disease slow landed easiest, then throughout the fight have a chanter/shammy try to improve on that.

Once you're up and running, call in other melee who will push him against the wall, boxing in both him and the MT (make sure cleric range is good, they're the indicator for other casters).

After this is running, the key is keeping your melee healed - his AE isn't to bad, but their HP will gradually fall.

A bard singing AE cold and seasons will help a lot.

It's then just an endurange fight. We do this with 18 av. lvl 64 (could probably be done with less) so long as we have the 3 clerics in the rotation.

At around 20% his damage gets a bit spikey, so it may be worth allocating a spot healer back to the MT (who will probably have lost defensive by this point) so make sure he stays up.

Hope this helps,

Tubs / Quellious

Have taken part in many an action in the BoT towers to drop Icestorm.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has seen the "Twice Forged Steel Bulwark" recently? It's a drop I'd like but haven't seen it in the last month for sure, maybe two or more months.

For sure we have had either "Ornate Breastplate Mold" or "Mantle of the Rainmaker" drop on each occaison, some of which yielded two molds or two mantles!

Cheers

That's the lower version from the east wing of the zone. The mob pictured here is the boss of the water tower. I don't understand why both mobs have the same name. I think the lower version used to be Fogl Iceshard, but it got confused somehow.

Killed this guy on Povar couple of times,

Decent drops, and is doable with 2 groups. Just depends on DPS and you have to position him in a good spot or you will your casters caught in the AOE. He has dropped Sword and shoulders for us. Plus last time he dropped a Melee only sheild secondary slot 100 hps 100 mana few other stats like 40AC. For the effort, very nice drops.

AE is called Raging Blizzard
http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=1050&source=Live
Does 600dd and 400 mana drain times three waves every 42+ seconds. It's a targetted AE with small radius so not hard to avoid.

Dropped:
Glyphed Rune Word
Unadorned Symbol of Torden
Mantle of the Rainmaker

The AoE isnt unique for this guy, other normal Vann giants can cast it.
Just tried to kill this one.
# Jan 01 2003 at 3:38 AM Rating: Good
Has the same model as the normal giants leading up to it, which surprised me.

Slowable - by shaman anyway. Had no need for an enchanter to try.

600pt cold based AE that also drains Mana! It appears to be 3 waves. Based on my mana pool I think each wave drains 600 mana on top of the 600DD.

You can land spells from outside melee range which helps, so just back off your casters. Cleric CHeals work from just outside the AE too. Druid ones do not appear to. Next time I'll take an extended range item and see.

He wiped out 17 of us, all around level 64. Had we known about the AE it would have been fine.

He Flurries and hits for 876 max - quadding.
