Shadows of LuclinI submitted this item. I was doing a mass slaughter of Elementals at the time. I am about 99% sure they droped from a standard elemental, not one of the named or special ones. I would say that something like 1 in 500 normal elemantal drops a nice item, problem is that after a few hundred spiney weapons you tends to stop checking.

I got this last night off "a water elemental". One of the regular sort.
I have read other posts regarding these type of rare drop weapons and many of the other posts refer to seeing the MoB in question dual-wielding the regular Spiny and something else. This seems a little fishy, like a dead give-away to me...kinda like them saying 'Hey I have better loot than average. Kill me quickly before someone else notices."
The one that dropped this for me was NOT dual-wielding, simply had this weapon in addition to the visible Spiny upon looting.

It seems that you're correct. I looted a Seared Short Sword from a generic fire elemental in TS. Its stats were something like 7/24 3str 3dex 3agi 3sta 1hs.
