They fixed the issue with the focus effect breaking mez and root. The effect will no longer fire when casting mez, malo, tash, root, or presumably any detrimental spell that does no damage.

The focus effect deals a little over 200 damage as a second "spell" following instants after your own. It is completely independent of the spell you cast in that one, either, both or neither may be resisted. It does not get the benefits of additional focus effects (ie: the magic damage focus on your hat), and fires approximately 40% of the time. I haven't watched closely enough to determine if AAs that affect spell damage critical blasts, etc. have any effect. Sadly for us Mages, it does not have one chance to fire for every blast from Jolt - only one for the entire spell. Allegedly, it may proc once for each tick of a DoT, although I've yet to confirm this.

The proc is exceptionally difficult to resist, gets the benefit of all your critical blast AAs (frequency, damage bonus, etc.) and seems to also gain the bonuses from your Spell Damage Mod2s (or it does a lot more base damage than advertised). The particle effect of the proc firing is rather graphic intensive and floods the area with tons of blue sparklies.

All in all, this stick is well worth grinding out the missions necessary to obtain it, even with the beer-devaluation of all the loot items. I'll be working on getting Rokyl's Channeling Crystal to pair with it.

At the moment, the focus on this item procs with tash and mezzes, breaking mezzes as soon as you cast it. Unless EQ fixes this proc, its useless for chanters, unless you want to be a enchanter who canot mez.
