*IS* good for Shaman in RANGE slot for low to mid levels unless you get something that has the variety of stats and range-slot-ready. Just don't throw it at your enemy. :)

Not that great

Well, it's a good weapon for a warrior, but definately NOT for a shaman.

I used it a little during my 30's and stopped using it because my strength dropped when it proced. Also, while it may steal from the MOB you're fighting, so far I have yet to notice any benefit to this. Frost Giant Scouts in The Great Divide hit for approx 90. When this weapon procs, they can only hit for about 89. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but honestly the difference is negligible.

Perhaps it's better against lower strength MOBs, but they're few and far between by the time you can afford one of these.

Nice stats in the range slot I guess...

You might not notice the damage reduction against something as strong as a frost giant but when I would hunt tizmaks with my warrior the reductions was noticable to the tune of 5-7 hp a hit. When you are talking a melee fight that can add up quick.

I don't understand whats going on with the economy in EQ. This weapon is light, magical, a good ratio, has stats and has a very nice proc, i forget but drops off some lvl 50+ mob.... I see it for sale as double digits in pp in the Bazzar....(I think once 98pp) and maybe up to 200 on an expensive day

Then you get some new weapon, maybe usable by more classes (which I think would make it cheaper, less demand) no stats and the only real advantage might be the delay on some of the newer weapons.... but the ratio can be the same... and its like 2k... JUST because this weapon has been around longer? I dont understand.

And pre-luclin if you did a search for spear type piercing (primarily I mean shaman usable, TRL,BARB,OGR) and eliminated stuff with a less then average ratio (like less then fine steel), only picks magic there pretty much wasn't one lower then like level 35/40ish... seriously. and even if you wanted one of those, a slime coated or a whatever of the depths and all that... they were VERY pricey.

I guess what I am saying is its SAD to see the ecomony in EQ go to hell. but even more so is how people want a weapon because it looks cool, or is new. This weapon is DISGUSTINGLY under rated.

I have seen the prock level effect items too because everyone is a twink... but 30 is not even that high, right about when this weapon might be concidered for replacement, it starts procking too!

This weapon is awesome. I personally have not had the pleasure of using it, but looking it over the numbers it's just sad.

then again, this is the same game, that right after a patch, someone sold Kobald hide boots to a merchant, so then I walk up and buy them for 6pp. So I suppose exploit it. Its worth EVERY penny in my opinion especually under 100pp.

This was the first guild gift I ever received. At the time i was only level 10 so the proc didnt work, but its a nice shaman spear. The only problem with it is the proc doesnt happen too often, but the worse thing is that it stacks with *NO* STR buffs of any kinds and overwrites any and all spells you have on with a STR buff component. Furthermore this effect cannot be clicked off so you have to wait for it to wear off. I have never noticed a real benefit of debuffing mobs this way, they seem to hit for the same amount of damage even with a spell like Cripple, which drops STR by over 70. Only good use for this is for a warrior that doesnt have right clickable STR buff gear ( and is solo ), or for the range slot for a shaman--by the time it procs at level 30 you will already have better STR buff spells. Multiple procs arent cumulative so dont think the 25 STR taken from the enemy will add up. By the time you are a level to get this yourself it will be sold for cash or twinked over. If you can get one for les than 500pp its a decent shaman piercer, but I wouldnt pay more than that.

it may seem annoying that I keep spamming posts, BUT, you CANNOT WEAR IT IN YOUR OFFHAND!!!!

( I wish I could, cuz I could get my lammy + STR Steal, that would be 000000ber!!! w00t!)
Stacking
# Aug 23 2001 at 6:02 PM Rating: Good
ANd it doesn't stack with Dr00d/SHammy buffs unless the shammy/dr00d buff gives higher STR.

Like so..

+23 STR proc. <---- This would be replaced.
+25 STR buff. <---- This would take hold.

+23 STR proc. <---- This would take hold.
+20 STR buff. <---- This would be replaced.

See what I mean?

Actually, it DOES overwrite larger strength increases. I fought using this during approximately level 34-40, when I got a spine chill spear and this went into my range slot for the WIS bonus. The proc is a buff/debuff, as far as I can tell. I watched my strength go down every time it proced and I had already STR buffed. BUT it's great for warriors with no buffer along or for shaman that like to make the enemy weaker and get free buffs. It doesn't last as long as most shaman buffs at that level, but *shrugs*....
The proc
# Aug 23 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Decent
Well, my real life friend gave me one of these... he's lvl 54 right now, but...

When he was 51 he got this for me while I was lvl 24. I am now level 33, so it has already procced the first time (w00t!!)

It was clear to me that this weapon betters it's proc every 2-4 levels or so. When i was lvl 30, it stole 22 STR, I was lvl 31, it stole 22 STR, and I was 32, it stole 23 STR... now I'm 33 and it still procs the same (23 STR) and I'm hoping at 34, it will steal 24 STR.

Also, on the question of it being resisted.
YES, it CAN be resisted. I've fought so many things that didn't resist it, and when I finally found something that could I was like, dammit! so, yes it can be resisted.

Plus, if you equip it in the range slot, like everything else, it won't proc unless you attack with it, which I suggest NOT doing in the range slot. (what a waste of 1k!)

Well, I hope this clears things up a bit.
RE: The proc
# Sep 22 2001 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
I recently bought this for my lvl 41 warrior, it procs quite often and always steals 25 strength, so I'm assuming it won't get much higher than that
stacking?
# Aug 12 2001 at 5:10 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if this will stack with other str buffs, such as druid/shammy str??
Thanks
22 str
# Aug 11 2001 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent
Well I own one of these, and it procs at 31 at least. The proc is a 22 strength drain, meaning the you steal 22 strength from the target. It procs almost every fight for me with only 99 dex. Since it's so light weight it's easy to bring, and I use it mostly for debuffing (and buffing me) - once it has proc'ed I switch to more damage dealing weapons... I haven't seen the proc resisted yet.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 16 2001 at 6:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This Item is not Primary Or Range only Im not trying to Flame anybody just telling you the facts as I was holding mine in my offhand today with my Sword of Skyfire in the main hope that clears up any confusion
RE: Secondary too
# Jul 09 2001 at 5:57 AM Rating: Decent
I ve got one too and it is definitively "Primary" and "Range". I have also a Skyfire and I would be happy if I could dual wield it with the beetle.
But .... no way.

Maybe he has a spear from a orc out a crush *LoL*

RE: Secondary too
# Jun 29 2001 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
Could there possibly be two different kinds? I bought one last week and it says primary and range. I try to equip it in my secondary, and it obviuosly doesn't want to fit in there =) *shrug* So who knows whats up with that.

Are you confusing secondary (off-hand) slot with ranged slot?

There aren't two different beetle stingers, Giddaron has either been misinformed or doesn't know what he is saying. Beetle Stinger is primary range only, and a nice range item it is...

# Jun 11 2001 at 2:05 PM Rating: Default
I found this wonderfully nice person (although I didnt know it at the time) that sold me this weapon for 500pp and a large bronze breastplate, I am level 10 right now and had saved up with bear pelts and cat pelts( and some money from my guildmates) and was out to purchase a new weapon, and this guy was selling a Beetle Stinger and hadnt listed a price, when I first asked him he said 1000pp, but I ask if he could come down on the price because I wanted to have enough left to buy some armor, and he sold it to me for 500pp---what a nice guy!...no I dont remember his name off hand, but there is a nice troll shaman out there somewhere

perhaps you are the luckiest perhaps i beat you, today i brought one of these on bertoxx for 50pp!!! I am totally serious here i could not believe it when i saw it in auction, so i asked her to hold it and got money from my guild mate. Also i am unsure if there are 2 versions of this but mine is primary or range only.

This is "Primary" and "Range" only item. I wish he would change it so we could put it on our characters we have on this server. He or she needs to add the Iksar Hide Mask also.
