was just farming owlbears on my druid today saw this thing on track went over owned him and droped the brain asumed it was for a stupid vah shire quest for a while till i gated to gd desided to look and was a little suprised lol well this is my new range slot to rep my deity idol
Not sure if this info will help anyone or just add to the confusion of just how often Prince Skeritat pops so I'll post my experience with this named owlbear.
I killed him on my first run through HSM when i was on my wayz to check out the Tenebrous Mountains at level 44 to scout the Coterie camps to see what was involved in getting a pair of the Coterie General Boots. He was a named mob, I was one of 3 people in the zone, it was late, and I still felt bad dropping him. He dropped the Circlet of Owlbear Feathers(something like that) and didn't look like a bad piece for low-mid level peeps so I did a shout of where it was and took off. He did not drop the brain so no, it doesn't drop everytime. I promise.
The next thing that drew me to the Moor was Ghowrig, the named sonic wolf, and the shoulder piece he dropped. Someone else already had him camped so i pulled up tracking and saw the Prince again. This time it was just me and that one other guy in the zone so I killed him out of sheer boredom and again, he didn't drop the brain. At that point, i had heard of the brain he dropped but didn't know the stats on it or anything so I was curious...but he didn't drop it. All he dropped the second time was a damaged owlbear pelt and some owlbear bile...no drop junk, i think. My most recent and most involved experience with the Prince was when i went after my Rallic Pack last weekend. In hunting for the Perfect Owlbear Pelt, I saw him wander by the owlbear I was killing and chased him right after. This time he did drop the brain...i plan on using it quite a lot when i'm not using my bow. Why wouldn't i? But the odd thing is this and this also throws all the ideas i had in my head about what makes him spawn, his spawn rate if not triggered, etc etc: No exaggeration, it wasn't even one minute later that I got jumped by him from behind as I was looking at my new range slot item. I killed him again and he dropped the brain again. I had an old Pally friend in-zone by some odd twist of fate and he came to get it.
In short, in my time spent in HSM to get my Rallic Pack and other things, it doesn't seem to matter what phase the war is in or if it's on at all. He seems to be random to me but I don't claim to be the master of figuring out pop rates, PHs, or spawn triggers...i post this only as a reference for others to follow or keep in mind as they look for this guy.
BTW, he popped northeast a little wayz away from the outpost everytime i saw him and he hasn't been stationary once....
isnt this the guy that now spawns as a result of the owlbears winning the hollow shade war rather then being a regular, or random spawn by the caves? i just did the war last night in favor of the grimlings and got a nodrop dagger of a prince something or other that spawned when all the camps were controlled by the grimlings. the wolves and bears have the same cenario, if they defeat all the other camps their prince will spawn in the shar vahl out post right out side the city
No, he's a random, normal spawn near the owlbear caves. As long as the owlbears have control of their own cave, he will spawn, regardless of the status of the the grimlings or the sonic wolves.
My GF and I, a level 35 Druid and Her a Warrior were camping owlbears when I first had him on track. First time we killed him (Prince Skriatat was blue to us then), he dropped the brain, very nice for me! =) Then, the second time, he dropped Owlbear Feather Circlet, not better than the hemmet I had, so I had my GF keep an eye on the corpse as I ran my Vah Shir Shaman alt out there to loot that No Drop item, too. Woot! (as they say) Nice item for my 7th level Shammy! =)P So no, he doesnt ALWAYS drop the brain but they are all no drop items.
This badboy is dropped from a named owlbear, Prince Skriatat. He was blue to me at 40...dropped him quick. Brain drops everytime. ME LIKEY!!! The spawn isn't too rare...bout once every 1.5 hours...but PLEASE don't quote me on that. Just my 2cp...hope this helps
I must have been Lucky He was LB to me at 40... dropped him pretty easily and got the brain... Now which to use... the Preserved Owlbear Eye or the Brain?
The brain does not drop every time. I have killed him thrice and only twice did he drop ANYthing at all, the first of which was the head piece he drops. Circlet of Feathers or something.
Well I got this today and noticed NO DIFFERENCE. I timed my med cycle and it was the same with and without the this item. I may have made a mistake or verient may have made a booboo. I may be to high level (56) or does this actully work period. So can anyone tell me if this really works for them by actully timing their med cycle or another technique?
At 56 you are almost certainly on the hard-cap for meditate skills (252?). My understanding of most of these modifiers is that they can push you over the soft cap (ie your cap for your level) but not over the hard cap. The lvl 40 cleric who replied earlier would have a max. med skill of 200. He says he noticed a difference, which may well be the 208 he would get with 200+4%.
Well....many people using the skill mod items for tradeskills also have not seen much of a difference, and it's suspected that none of these type items are really working yet. :(
Well, I tried it for more hours then I care to admit to. And yes, those three mobs kept randomly spawning about 10 seconds after you kill one....but the Prince never showed. Wasn`t a total waste as I kept stopping to kill the named mobs whenever they popped. But the countryside was littered with Grappler,Cub and Razorbeak corpses...but not the Prince
One of my guildmates, Finnlander, posted the following information on our guild boards regarding the PHer for the Prince for this item:
------
Finally got this item last night after a couple days of roaming Hollowshade Moor. It wasn't till I just sat there analyzing my tracking list in an empty zone did I realise this Prince Skariatat was on a spawn table similar to the froglok foragers/hunters cycle in Trak's Teeth! It was by accident really. I killed an owlbear cub out of boredom and another respawned almost immediately.
There are 2 placeholders for the Prince east of the entrance to Shar Val. They can be cubs, razorbeaks, or grapplers, but all ph's are owlbears. I believe either one can spawn the Prince. A tracker is recommended because there are many different spawn points. He's pretty rare. I must have gotten lucky on the first one only having to kill 4 ph's first. The second Prince, didn't spawn til after I killed 30 or so placeholders. My guess is a 5% chance.

KNOW what you are talking about..

Ok, this is a great cleric item (or any wisdom based caster really). I have a 40 cleric, and I noticed that when I had it in my range slot, mana went much faster than if I didn't have it in my ranged slot. Not sure about stacking with clarity, don't even know how to figure that out to be honest.
The named Prince owlbear is near the owl caves in Hollowshade. he was dark blue to me (lvl 40), so that should help with the level a bit.
"I have a 40 cleric, and I noticed that when I had it in my range slot, mana went much faster than if I didn't have it in my ranged slot."
+4% meditate is something that you could only notice if you were timing your med times with and without the brain equipped. At level 40 (8 extra med points with brain equipped), it's at most 2 extra mana per tick, and possibly only 1.
That's basically like having a level 40 necro casting Dark Pact (the level necro 8 HP-to-Mana spell). Yes, the mana regen would be faster, but it's something that you could only truly notice if you were clocking your med times.
So to say that you noticed that you regained mana "much faster" with the brain equipped probably means that you were experiencing a placebo-like effect.
Still, it is a VERY nice item. The wisdom on it is very nice for a range slot item, and every little bit of extra mana regen helps.
I acquired one of these neato things a few days ago on a trip through Hollowshade on my way to Katta. Saw Prince Skriatat on track and took him out with Miriamele's help (thanks ;p). He was somewhere around the middle of the zone, maybe north a little bit. Dropped the brain thang. Great lil' range item, replaced my Seal of Thoradain. ;)
Theoretically, it should be pretty similar to an FT item. At level 57, with 252 meditate skill (maxed), I get 20 mana per tick of mana regenerating while I sit. With this item equipped, I seem to be getting the same mana regen per tick - 20. I'm not really sure what's up here, or if the item is working as intended.
If you've capped said skill already then will the modifier even apply? It's nearly impossible to test, and it's probably a question better put directly to Verant. :P
This comes from Prince Skriatat...he is a named Owlbear that spawns somewhat near the Cat City entrance. He is a rare spawn; I only saw him once in about 3 hours tonight and that was because the zone crashed and had to be repop'd. Good luck. When I did kill him, he had the circlet, not the brain (just my luck, as I can't use the circlet).
Hey guys this dropped in Hollowshade Moor (next to kitty city) off a named Owlbear. Prince somthing. At 47 he was green and took a fury of air, root, and a stab from a 51 pally. Very easy kill and this dropped first time. I notice a difference when I med btw. So worth tryin to get. If you head away from the city, pretty much a straight line you will see some owlbears and a bit beyond there he spawned was on track from near the fort next to Shar Vahl Good luck guys
Brain of the Beaked bear, If youve done any reading about luclin say on eqatlas and looked around, you would know Luclin has OWLBEARS, Look for one, and i think youll find your beaked bear to get this item.
Careful hunting owlbears, the defenders actually summon, and may be more numerous than they appear. was almost killed by these as lvl 46 pally, because the stack of 3 kept summoning me back into their midst, as my hp went down, other greens joined in. Should've known something was wrong when i tried to pull and it just looked at me but didn't come a'runnin :)

Posted:Dec 05 2001 at 11:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this item will stack with clarity and my 7th shawl =:), only thing is...it might now stack with other mod +med items...hrmm...you luzas who are posing but not saying where you found it cause you wanna mega farm it for cash STOP post the damn place/mob....
makes me think that some people need to read the ENTIRE post before opening their mouths...LORE NO DROP now doesnt that make you feel a bit silly .use the brain before the mouth....
Well of course its for Wis casters only... Owls are Wise, not intellegent. Hehe, go get the brain of a Big headed Grey or something and see if its for Int casters =P
I think these are just the beginning of very nice items with very nice modifiers... but what happens when your skill is maxxed out and this gives +4%, will it go over the cap?
hmmm I wonder why int casters can't use. There's probably another item for int casters I guess. Anyway, where did this come from? (don't say the moon) and is it quest or mob dropped? Oli
