Rangers do double damage with bow shots on stationary targets which aren't rooted. Rooting a mob which is already stationary in camp halves ranger archery damage.

Rogues tend to be up close to the mob for backstabs. When rooted, a mob will attack the closest player. If the rogue happens to be closest when the mob gets rooted, they no longer have a back to stab. It's not impossible to deal with, but it's one more thing to make the rogue's job more difficult.

lame! some weapons were intended for knights, not bloodcrazed fools in chainmail who simply feel they deserve first dibs on every two handed weapon because it's big and hits hard.

/smacks the lazy buggers at Sony who couldn't take the time to decide what is and isn't a BER weapon and just coded them all.

Other than Berserker-only weapons, berserker shouldn't have been added to any 2handers not warrior usable imo.
RE: a
# Jan 17 2005 at 9:54 AM Rating: Default
Yea you are right, because Berserkers have DOZENS of berserker only weapons to fall back on. As a matter of fact why even let them have ANY weapons?? Oh wait, there are only 4 berserker only weapons in the game? Epic 1.0 epic 1.5 epic 2.0 AND Jagged Axe of Uncontrolled Rage, the itemization for berserkers is already the worst for any class ever created and introduced into EQ so dont go busting berserkers humps because they can use some of the same weapons as you.

By the time your guild is able to kill tunare most of the mobs are gonna either A) be immune to runspeed changes or B) will just resist the proc......that and if it does proc it only lasts about 3 secs, and since everyone should be at max aggro range on mobs only the MT will be getting hit still.... The only problem i have with the sword is when i use it in exp groups, pain in the *** to make people know that closest person has aggro, that and AM ranger dmg gets cut in half due to root. Imo shoulda had a heal proc =P

..well.. no with PoP out, this definitely aint the best weap on the shelv.. yet, combine this with primal (just until avatar procs), and you got yourself a nice DPS output. And imho engulfing roots can prove quite useful when soloing, and it got a li'l dd to go with as well.
epic alternative?!

The proc totally kills the weapon. Can someone explain when you can use this weapon?

I mean, you can't use it soloing if you are fear kiting, you can't use it on raids because it screws up aggro (let's face it when you are raiding with 40+ people the MA will not be able to be closest to the mob all the time), and you have to basically train everyone in your exp groups not to stand close to the mobs if you intend on using it in exp groups.

Other than pvp situations, I can't really imagine a sane time to use it.
RE: epic alternative?!
# Jun 21 2005 at 10:15 PM Rating: Default
a is then dont roll/bid on it. B is that even if an sk is soloing that doesnt mean they have to fear kite. Also take into consideration that even before it was ber usable, it could still be used by pallies. Since pallies dont have snare, this wepon can work nicely in places where the mobs run away, even though u might have to be in combat a little more. Also you have to be pretty decent to get this item, and it as a pc spell gets resisted quite a lot in the higher end just producing more aggro.

well, sometimes SK's need a good tank wpn, and 40 ac, 25sta and 100hp realy helps the weak inkys out there abit. the root? why care about the root when there are so many 55+ mobs in pop that are immune to such proc anyways (resists = aggro and must be nice combo with the other taunt spells sk have)

killing allready perm rooted mobs is another thing you can kill with it without being afraid that rogues/ranjas dies..

Depending on the mob and how your guild does positioning( pin mob against wall with MA between ) this wepon is a Kick A** weapon. Yes it hurts your rogues, but if you have pinned the mob against MA and the wall, a rogue can get right up on the mob and backstab. step back one step and do it the rest of the fight. Most Guilds train there Melee to attack from the farthest bosable atack range to minamize agro anyway, so the Root won't make much of a diference as long as you keep the MA alive.

Against non casting mobs( ie mobs that you can park) this weapon is great. If it is a caster, don't even touch it.

It rules in PVP, very low resist, even to a 150 MR player.

I have recieved this weapon, then 1 week later recieved the ssra weapon. Can tell you the ssra weapon blows this one out of the water. My PHF rots in one of my bags now. Loved it while I used it, but rogues hate this weapon like a plague.

Yes the one in her hand isnt the right graphic.... the real graphic.. the blade is darker, and the hilt has 2 falcon or griffon heads on each side of it.. hmmm cant find any links but it looks just like Gaudralek, Sword of the Sky off of Vyemm.
Hmmm
# Jan 13 2003 at 5:35 AM Rating: Decent
Perhaps the Sword has gotten a new graphic, but I recall seeing a Paladin with this sword, and it seemed to look a little like the sword in her hand, but when i saw it, it looked like the Clawed Griffon Sword, or in words, it has a darker blade (Not black, but like darkish gray), and instead of just plain rectangular things on the hilt, there is a Griffon head for each one... hard to describe ;)

What a wonderful beauty. This sword has a little of everything a paladin wants in a sword. 50/39 is such a great ratio. It pushes the envelope on dmg without being too fast or too slow. The proc? well root isnt good in all situations and VI knew that so they didnt put an dex on the sword. I dont think any other paladin weapon is as balanced as this one. And the best slays I have seen were wielding this sword.

Tunare
# Dec 01 2002 at 2:38 AM Rating: Excellent
Tunare is the EASY fight... Strategy is what you need for the mobs before her in particular Ali the Elder who has a HUGE AE Silence and 400DD and dispels 1 buff. Then you have the Guardians of Tunare which both have 1 million hp and one AE Silences, the other AE DD for 400. Then you got the annoying Thriftling Focusers which are 1 million HP as well. Then your free to beat down Tunare :)

From my experience, the Guardians don't have near that many HP, though I may be wrong. Also, the Thifling Focusers are superfluous. You don't need to fight them. Tunare won't summon them if you just leave them alone.
RE: Tunare
# Dec 08 2002 at 5:17 PM Rating: Good
The Thriftling Focusers don't hit that hard. A single tank with healer can easily keep each one occupied while the rest of the raid kills Tunare.

If you think about it, this would be one of the best weapons for either class on a pvp server...

The proc alone would help you slay punks faster than spreading cheese whiz on crackers, but with the ratio and stats to go along with it, you'd be undefeatable.

from what i can tell this wep has a better ratio then a goldenrod and i dont see what is so bad about its root proc. i just want someone to spell out to me why a goldenrod is better with no flaming plz thanks
RE: i dont understand
# Mar 23 2003 at 3:06 AM Rating: Decent
The reason Goldenrod is more saught after than PHF is that Goldenrod has a few things that give it advantage over Tunare sword.

Goldenrod has 25 more straight hp/mana, which is everything if you have max'd sta than its all about straight hp.

Plus the proc is much much better on Goldenrod. 150lt v 160dd root. I would take the lifetap.

As far as ive seen, the PHF proc doesnt mess things up too badly if the weilder is smart, root isnt that big a pain in the *** hehe.

All in all, both are very nice weapons in their own right.

wow... nice... all i can say is this...

forget your shadow knight epic... get your guild interested in camping tundra 24/7 until you get it.

Maybe if your "The" raid leader you can say... default sk/pal sword to "me" should on the ultra rare chance it drops.

damage/del is insane... I wonder what damage bonus i would get with my 227 str? Better weapon then the rocksmasher

This sword rocks. the effect is not bad 157-160 dmg and root spell. SSR has the life tap which is nice and maybe on a full swing 10-25dmg more. this is diffently the number 2maybe 3 sword for palleys with all the stats and the dmg ratio in the game.

i would rather see there be no proc... its a shame that the dev's at vi are so thoughtless - esp when they upgraded the rogue loot off tunare to have a +10% BS mod and the knights got jack ****.
Its not the best ...
# Aug 11 2002 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
This weapon may have a good/dmg delay and incredible stats but the effect completely ruins it.

The sword of ssra ..i think is a much better 2hs sword then this one.
RE: Its not the best ...
# Oct 07 2003 at 9:43 PM Rating: Default
Heh none of you understand how badass this weap is especially for the difficulty, and the proc is awsome if you have a brain........ paladins can solo easy with this by jousting, the weilder can get 100% agro by simply being closer to the mob than everyone else.. etc. To get anything better you would have to play 20/7 and be in some uber guild where only thing your allowed to do is raid. Good luck getting to her tho, the silence tree's otw to her are gonna kill you.

Of course ssra sword is better. It takes less than a day to clear Growth and kill Tunare. The timesinks to get a guild emp ssra ready take months.
GOLDENROD > Tunare Sorry..
# Jul 08 2002 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
The simple fact that the Tunare sword is 10 Lbs and GoldenRod is 1 Lbs. Add on top of that The GoldenRod has Life tap.. Hmm no brainer here..

Tunare < GoldenRod

You speak the truth, nothing to be sorry about. But when there is so much competition on your server(sol ro) And only 1-2 top guilds focusing on ssra, tunare is left for the lower tier guilds, who's paladins/sks would love this =) I know i would
