If you intend to sell or trade this item in EQ then make sure you don’t ‘use’ it.

When you ‘use’ or right click on this item as if you were going to cast a spell from it, it vanishes from EQ and your account is granted two booster packs and one starter deck in the LoN digital trading card game. Once you ‘use’ or ‘redeem’ a LoN card it’s gone from EQ for good. The starter decks are supposed to be a playable basic set. In other words you get a basic set of cards (55) you can actually play a game with, an avatar, 4 quests, and a mix of cards to quest, raid, attack and defend with in the LoN game.

The booster packs only have 15 cards but they do have a chance of containing a ‘loot’ card. Apparently a very, very, very, very small chance. And even then the loot card you get will probably be junk, like some potion with an effect that’s cheap and easy to obtain anyway. A ‘loot’ card is one you can ‘redeem’ in LoN and it will then be available for one of your characters to claim in either EQ or EQII. (you get to pick which game to apply loot cards to before you open a new pack) The rest of the cards are random from a wide a mix of archetypes. (Generic – Fighter – Mage – Scout – Priest)

If you have EQ you get a free starter deck and limited access to try out LoN. Booster packs are a few bucks real money and buying just one from Sony will grant you full access to all the features of the LoN game.

On Baz value:

If you’re thinking of buying a starter set in the bazaar, then check to make sure you couldn’t just buy two boosters and a starter much cheaper. This is often the case on my server. You do NOT get a guaranteed loot card with a Starter Set or Booster Pack. As far as I can tell there is no advantage to starter sets over buying your boosters and starter deck separately.

Depending on how you look at it people can be better off buying booter packs for 3$ real money than buying them in the bazaar for the prices I’ve been seeing, even if you are only spending plat. What’s really valuable is our time and most of us earn 3$ rl a lot faster than we ‘earn’ plat in the game. Ofc most of us enjoy the game more than our jobs so there is that trade-off to consider. But my main point is that time has value and sometimes it’s good to remember that, whether we’re considering throwing around our plat or our dollars.

Here’s the way I look at it… If people are truly buying 100k in plat for almost 9$ real money, (that according to the advertised price I see spammed around in EQ) and booster packs cost 3$ from Sony, I should be able to buy booster packs in EQ for about 33k. Which means, Starter Sets would be fairly priced at around 66-68k, in relation to the plat-selling market that is. I’d never pay cash for plat but sometimes thinking in those terms is useful.

Apparently though, people don’t mind parting with ‘virtual’ money as much as they do with ‘real’ money because the baz prices I’ve seen Booster Packs offered at in the last few weeks in a range from 45k – 90k with most being in the 40k range. Starter sets have been at 90 – 200k. Ofc that 200k is super ridiculous because at no time would anyone have had to pay more than 180k even if they had volunteered to buy the two most expensive booster packs. Usually the cost for two boosters and a starter would have been 83 – 93k at most. Starter Decks are cheap, you don’t usually have to pay more than 3k for them and often enough I see them closer to 2k, though ofc plenty of people have them way overpriced too. Any way you look at it though, if you’re buying your Starter Sets or Boosters with plat you paid hard earned dollars for… you really need to think again.


As for the Starter Decks… they are 10$ real money so they are a huge bargain if you are buying them in EQ with plat instead. The problem is the deck you get in EQ will be a random archetype and I don’t know if you can get all 4 archetypes from the decks that drop in EQ. I’ve only gotten two types yet from EQ drops, the Fighter & the Scout. Buy from Sony and you can pick the archetype of the deck.

That’s about all I got so far, if anyone knows more, or can correct any misconceptions I might have please comment.

Also: If anyone can answer a couple questions…

1) Do the other two Archetype Starter Decks drop in EQ? Mage and Priest?

2) Once you open a particular Archetype Deck and get the number of basic cards you want. Is there any point in opening more? In other words do you always get the same cards or are you better off opening boosters if you want to build more variety into your decks?

I don't know why the mobs that people have seen drop this item are being listed. Since the tradeskill patch around October/November and the release of LoN there seems to be two news types of global drops.
One - the new tradeskill drops which seem to drop off of any mobs of a certain level. The higher level the mob the better the item. ie. Coarse Silk off of level 20sh stuff, Pristine Silk off of level 50sh stuff etc etc.
Second - The LoN card stuff seems to be comparative level based. My level 80 Druid can AE rats in Blightfire all day and not get a card drop but if a go there with a level 24 toon and kill there cards have a chance of dropping. I've heard that for card stuff to drop the mob being fought must con at least light blue to the highest level party member. Not sure how true this is but sounds about right.
The mobs which can drop the card stuff shouldn't even be listed. The listed mobs will NEVER drop card stuff for people that are too high level for it and from what I guess ANY mob can drop card stuff anyway.

These packs and the others are supposed to be random of any mob in EQ according the boards and starting 28th of Sept drop rate is supposed to double for the Weekend Promo

Dropped From Lodia Kai Pocher in Shadweavers Thicket, was on My Level 8 Necro, Moc Conned Yellow

I was 4 boxing trash at AG zone in the other day and after about 30 mins I got one of these starter sets to drop. I claimed it and contained a starter deck (Mage) and 2 boosters. I think some of you have the starter deck confused with the set. Was lucky to get a Kiss loot card in one of the boosters 8)
