You're little off there, it's a silk cord and a grizzly bear skin. Also, I'm not certain, but I believe it only holds small items, as the purpose to combine those little alchemy potions together.
There IS a bear-skin bag for combining 1 use potions into multiple use potions, but there is also a tailored large bag like the one mentioned by the poster below. For myself, I spend the extra and buy medicine bags instead of large bags because medicine bags weigh less, but I'll be teaching all my characters tailoring and making weight reduction bags from now on.

To all of you out there that were using sewing kits as lightweight 10 slot containers, you now have two options. Either buy/make 10 slot backpacks (3 stones weight, 10% weight reduction) or buy/make large tailored bags (1 silk cord and 1 low quality bear skin). These have 6 large slots and reduce weight by 10% but they only weigh 0.8 themselvs. Luck to thee.
Ommadon Redcrown 32 Wizard of Ro Officer and Guardian of the Darkender Bloodline Mithanel Marr (master smith, potter, tailor, baker, candelstick maker)
i had outfitted all my characters with 8 slot large sewing kits because of the low weight. they changed them to 10 slot and i said "cool". then they just changed them all deluxe kits with a weight of 4. now all my characters are encumbered! i don't rally care about the extra 2 slots per kit (except maybe in the bank) i just wanted the low weight. now i have to go trade out all the one's on my characters for the low weight ones again. this is kind of a pain for me since my main characters are dark elves and they can't buy the stupid things.
Aww, poor guy. Can't use your sewing kits (which were meant to be used for, get this, Sewing!) as lightweight Backpacks (used for [yep, you guessed it] Carrying Stuff). You could always try using one of those kits to make your own backpacks, weight reducing no less, instead of whining about having to buy the proper equipment here on the boards.
Cripes, it reminds me of the number of people who went ******* when they couldn't sustain their characters for months at a time on muffins and milk any more.
Look, the guy was just making a point, and a good one at that. If this is all you have to add to a topic then just walk away instead of filling the "typical ignorant Anonymous poster" role.
Or at least be a little more creative than "you're gay"

Posted:Jun 13 2001 at 10:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was in Crystal Carvern like a week ago, and I was making Silk Swatches, and I look up and i'm like, Phat. Unfortunatly I think i'm banned for "Bad conduct" DAMN VERANT!
Here's the straight scoop on the deluxe sewing kits from the May 30, 2001, patch message and the subsequent clarifications from Alan (Absor). ___________________________
5/30/01 Patch Message - "Sewing Kits: No existing sewing kits are being changed with this patch. But from now on, kits sold on vendors will be somewhat different. Large Sewing Kits will have 8 slots. Deluxe Sewing Kits will have 10 slots and weight slightly more than the Large Sewing Kit."
Absor - "The intent of the change was to keep the ten slot kits so that people wouldn't lose things, but to make them less desirable for carrying things. The cleanest way to do that was to rename the old kits to deluxe (and increase their weight) and to make new large kits for sale on vendors. So the 10 slot ones can't be purchased anymore, and the 'large' kit is reduced to 8 slots." ___________________________
So the existing large sewing kits held by players on 5/30/01 were converted to "Deluxe Sewing Kits" and the vendor sold sewing kits are all back to no more than 8 slots. Unless they change this at some future time the currently existing 10 slot Deluxe Sewing Kits will remain the only portable, 10 slot sewing kits for general, non-cultural use in the game.
If you want one of these you will need to find somebody who has an extra one with which they are willing to part. The alternative is to use the new 10-slot looms that are found in each of the starting cities in Norrath when you need to sew a non-cultural item that requires more than 8 slots.
the way i understand, yes large kits were made heavy and 10slot then to replace the value of 10slot handmade items, were dropped and changed back to large 8slot. and so people didnt loose stuff that they might have in the 10slot when it changed back to 8, they just left the 10, changed the name and went back to the 8 for future sales. whether these are for sale in thurgadin, not sure, just know that if they are... it would suprize me.
at present, crafters can make cultural 10slot kits, 10slot backpacks(10% reduction), 10slot potion bags (smallitems only), and maybe a 10slot toolbox but not sure about that.
If you would like a 10slot kit, look up a woodelf (tunare) or halfling (karana) smith... they can make some for you... think is trivial around 140 or so...
personally wish the weight of kits had stayed .4, but oh well....
I went through a week of smithing for the express purpose of getting my skill up high enough to make a Fier'Dal sewing kit (wood elf) because I had heard they were 10 slot and still weight 0.4. Well, I finally made one, but their weight was nerfed along with the other kits. It now weighs 4 stone and has 10 slots, but is definitely obtainable in GFay...
You can buy these in thurgadn near the bank vendors. They are 10 slot. Very nice to have in the bank =). Also there are deluxe toolboxes that have 10 slots. You buys those at the gnome igloos from the tinkering vendor in Iceclad ocean
I don't think you can buy 10 slot "deluxe sewing kits" from any vendor. From what I gather the these are only in game at all because there was a brief period when the large sewing kits were changed to 10 slot items, but Verant seems to have decided that this was a mistake and now large sewing kits sold by vendors only have the original 8 slots.
Any of the large sewing kits held by players when they changed the large sewing kits back to 8 slots were converted to the new 10 slot "deluxe sewing kits" during a recent patch to prevent any loss of items from people's inventories when the patch took effect. So far as I know these are likely to be the only deluxe sewing kits ever available in the game, so if you want one you will need to find another player who has an extra one that he is willing to sell.
The only 10 slot container you can buy at this time seems to be the deluxe toolboxes sold by the gnomish "pirates" at the igloos in Iceclad.
How nice, I was lugging mine around while in EC to make silk swatches. I only noticed that it was a Deluxe kit last night and came on here to see if I could find info. About time I got something from Verant other than my bad connect and my monthly bill )
1) Removes the profitability of 10 slot backpacks 2) The same time they renamed them to Deluxe, they added the stationary looms which have 10 slots 3) Tailoring is not a purchasable skill (ie all other trade skills anyone can raise given enough money, tailoring requires obtaining many drops from tough mobs) and the high end items made for it make it worth the effort to the select few.
these dont have 10% weight reduction and weigh 1 stone more than tailor made backpack - I'd still buy 10 slots for my personal use but yeah i might use these for bank usage=P
there are three wu's items that require nine components, tunic, cloak, and pants. and yeah, verant blew it on this one. they wanted to fill in the skill gap for tailors so they introduced wu's, and since three of the items require nine components, they upped the slots of the large kit. They did overlook the fact that they made 10 slot backpacks unprofitable, and after being petitioned by every master tailor who lost the only profitable tailoring item (the only good one anyway), they corrected the mistake by creating the deluxe sewing kit as a fix, only they had to do it quick before the market reaction got too big, and they didn't have time to add the deluxe to any merchants. (this is all opinion, but think about it) I will bet a full set of wu's that the next major patch will find a merchant or two or ten selling the deluxe sewing kits.
There are two known recipes that take 9 items (Wu's fighting tunic and imbued vale studded tunic). The vale tunic has to be made in a special sewing kit that only halflings can use. There are stationary sewing kits in towns, like forges. They looks like white looms, click on the top bar to activate them (maybe other places u can click too).
Want a 10-slot container for bank? Go to the igloos in Iceclad Ocean to buy a deluxe toolbox. Can't go to velious? Get 2 small pieces of HQ ore (the stacking kind, drops in Runnyeye) and find a halfling smith in Rivervale to make a special "vale sewing kit."
Personally, I believe that the disappearance from the stores of the "deluxe sewing kit" was a blunder by Verant. It should be obtainable at some location, maybe hard to get to, like the igloos in Iceclad Ocean, or the brownie camp in Lesser Faydark. It should not have been fouled up like this for future tailors.
I found one on a vendor in East Cabilis but i don't rembeber who, they we eithe by the bank or on the little island of merchants near the zone to West Cabilis
Not a sewing kit but goto the igloos in iceclad (right near the icebreaker docks) one of the gnomes there in addition to selling all sorts of tinkering items sells 10 slot delux toolbox. What is it for got me I am not a gnome, all I know its its great for organizing the bank. It is a little wieghty for use in inventory tho... as is the delux sewing kit, I personally use 3 compendiums of research (.2 wt 6 giant slots) an evil eye bag, a bearskin bag, a skewer (or what ever that cooking thing is called), a medicine bag, and a coldain sewing kit, the last I have in inventory because I like to work on skills in down time. The compendiums can be gotten thru the research quest in NK, and while they may not hold alot of loot comparitively (12 slot loss over 3 delux sewing kits) they are very light and that more than makes up for it (11.4 stones lighter than 3 delux sewign kits)
To my knowledge, and based on a post I read from Absor or someone at VI, these are not for sale, and were only created so that the people who had the Large Sewing kits that had recently become 10 slotters in their inventory did not lose items when they changed the Large Sewing kits back to 8 slotters. Basically the existing Large Sewing kits became Deluxe Sewing kits, and the vendors started selling a new item called Large Sewing kits (at least new as far as the item database is concerned). They will only sell the 8 slot Large, not the 10 slot Deluxe, probably to soothe the ruffled feathers of many a tailor, such as myself, that saw our meager profit from handmade backpacks fly out the window when regular large sewing kits were changed to 10 slotters :-)
So are you telling me that these items are not for sale, and never will be? Just like the manastone, these sewing kits will become "cult" item never toi become duplicable again!
I have 6 or so in the bank (f*ck it, I always thought I could buy a ten-slot later, heh), but if the price is obscene, I'll sell!
I'm not sure where to get these either i have a bank full of them when verant made all large sewing kits 10 slot then with the next patch changed it to Deluxe sewing kits are 10 slot and large are still 8 slot.. well now my bank has the Deluxe kits in them. and it is for tailoring skill
