I just picked one of these up for 350. Someone offered one up and asked for an offer and that's what I offered. Seemed reasonable since I knew Berserker's Sword went for just under 300, and this is a better weapon. Why the irrational pricing? Just a "I want a cool looking weapon" cosmetic issue?
Guild raided Runnyeye today (7/29), saw two drops within three hours or so. If you are in the level 20 - 25 range, you could probably bring a group down here and acquire one with relative ease, though my group was 19 shaman, 14 paladin (along for fun and loot, not exp), 22 sk, 27 warrior, 28 rogue, and 30 mage, so your experiences may differ. Blackened Alloy and Blackened Iron drops with some frequency, so this is a very good place to equip your character if you are not a twink : )
My level 8 warrior just bought this sword at Freeport last night for 100pp (the proceeds of sale of 2hq bear skins). For someone who has no high level character to twink with, this sword is wonderful!!!! Huge improvement over my fine steel longsword.
Here's what i'm thinking for when I get to 13 and get dual weild. I also just bought a sarnak enforcer 7dmg, 28 delay 1hb (40pp). I plan to fight with the BAL in primary, and Sarnak enforcer in my secondary. the delay on the sarnak is one less so i should get the dual check each swing, they're both magic, have a total damage of 17, and will build both my 1hs and 1hb skills at once. Does this sound like a reasonable plan for someone who doesn't have several k pp to buy the high level stuff?
Aye, it is a very good combination. Although, if I may make a suggestion, I would recommend that you only work on one weapons skill at a time. This is not to say that when you get dual wield, you use only 2 blunt weapons, 2 slashing weapons, or 2 piercing weapons, but rather that you use a weapon of the discipline you actually have the highest in your primary hand and the discipline you want to increase in your off hand. The reason is that, unless you're grouped, you will not be hitting the mobs you're fighting often enough to inflict the damage required to kill it before it kills you.
I have a level 37 bard and I fully intend to get one of these fantastic swords for my off hand on my warrior, rogue, and my bard himself. I am currently using a Crystallized Sword in my primary hand and Sainy's Claw in my offhand, which is wonderful for keepin up my piercing skills, but terrible for dealing melee damage while soloing.
I agree in general, but would add: you aren't going to get the increases very fast in the off hand. When a mob turns to run, pick up your secondary, throw it in your primary, and leave your primary on the cursor. This will make it take longer to kill the mob, so you get in more swings with your poorer skill. Put inventory slots in one of your hotkey banks.
If you are fighting hard mobs, and don't have a good weapon to train with, you can just swap it in if the fight is going well.
Personally I think they should make it possible to bring up your skills to a certain point (perhaps 5*level of mob + 5) on green mobs. It's just tedious to bring up skills at a high level, when blues can make you nervous even with real weapons.
Old thread but I'll add my 2cp for training skills.
I agree that soloing is not the best time to train a new weapon skill but, with a low delay weapon in your primary hand, you can really cruise when with a group. Assuming you're contributing to the group (snaring, doting, pulling, kicking, etc) it's not rude.
I'm currently training my 1hb using a kerran fishing pole (3/17) in my primary hand and a polished granite tomahawk in the secondary slot. I gained about 35 skills pts in just a couple of hours using this combination.
Heh seems to me that almost no one wants these swords nowadays. Someone told me that he's been selling these for 50pp now around the EC Bazaar now that most guys who can afford to lay out original price of 200pp (damn i paid 125pp for it just a week ago!!) for this sword are paying people 100pp to escort them to WC's Befallen to loot <A Servant's Blade 11/30dly +5sta +5dex +5HP 5.0WT> granted it weighs a bit more but i ups your STA as well so maybe it offsets it a bit but it's 1 dmg more for 1 dly! Also we all know how much DEX helps for us to 1. Critical Hit 2.Helps you to hit for your max. damage more often 3.(not too sure abt this) Hit with a bow and arrow! Damn! He tells me only place he hears this sword going for more than 100pp is GfayMart where it's further away from Runnyeye and Befallen.
My friend tells me he's gonna park his lvl42 enchanter at WC near Befallen zone and auction WTS Item retrivial services for 100pp... and if that's for just 10-20mins of work... it's a damn fine way of making cash... waitaminit.... damn i shouldn't be sharing this info now should i? /em slaps himself
Just got mine last night (in EC on The Rathe for 50pp!!) Attention all Rangers: Ya gotta get one of these! This is an absolutely awesome offhand weapon. BUT....you better have a healer handy, because this thing helps generate a big taunt! An excellent weapon that is way underpriced...lucky for us! My 2cp worth.
i was in a group in OT just killing like normal when one of the guys in my group asked me the damage on my crystal fiber whip i was using. i replyed 8/26 and all the sudden he poped this sword up on my screen and hit trade and said here take this one it is better. so i traded and checked the stats and my jaw droped. it was amazing to see someone just giving these caliber weapons away and i would like to see more of it. i like giving stuff away when i am done with an item i dont sell it i just go to the tunnel and make some newbies day. its better than getting a few plat in my opinion

Or spoils the damn noobs .. however you see it. Give a lvl 1 a nice weapon and he will spend the next 20 levels running around begging higher levels if they have something to spare. (maybe)
So i just give away free stuff to people i know - and know they are not going to be a pita- or Guildmates (and if they start thinking because they got one or two nice items for free, everything else is for free, i'll have an intimate little discussion with them), there are already enough beggers, no need to create more morons that think everything that cons red is a NPC and all you have to do is spam it with 'PLZ' to get free stuff.
Bad examples: I gave some Split Paw stuff away at Qeynos gate (poor region QHills .. can't make much money there .. thought i'd make some newbie's days), and instead of getting a "thanks" i got a "got anything else for me?" <shaking head>
Or that noob in BBM - was camping the damn Gobs (blue/white) solo - lvl 2 noob ooc spamming: "Can someone spare 30 pp?" (not ONE or TWO pp for spells or something .. THIRTY pp). Then he found me and started the same game "got 30pp .. i need armor .. blabla" for half an hour.
Don't feed the pigeons, if you don't want them to reward you with a stain on your head. <sigh>
I say that if you want to give away an item, you might as well make the newbie work for it. For instance, say you wanted to give away one of these swords to a newbie in the Qeynos Hills area. Have the newbie do a small quest for you. For instance, I will give you a fine weapon if you are a paladin giving the quest:
"I have heard reports of numerous undead lurking in this area. These walking dead are in direct defiance to my lord, Mithanael Marr, and must be dealt with. Therefore, I require proof that you serve my cause. If you return to me the rotting flesh of a sailor (zombie sailors, Erud's Crossing), bones putrid with stench (putrid skeletons, Qeynos Hills), and bones cold from frost, I will give you a weapon worthy of your prowess."
You can ham it up however you like, but get some roleplaying out of it too. It makes the game so much more fun when you're waiting forever for Hadden to spawn so you can get that Fishbone Earring you've been craving.
Personally, I'd ask for various instrument parts, being a bard. Like, 4 silk cords for instrument strings, an appropriate skin for drum heads, bone chips for pegs, a flute mouthpiece, and an unfinished trumpet, or something of the sort.
Good idea, if you have a little time to spend in a Newbie area :)
An additional possibility to separate the greedy ones from the worthy is to ask something, they know has a quite good going price - like 4 Orc belts, or spider silks - the greedy ones will insist you pay them the 4-5 PP .. the roleplaying ones can be rewarded with a great weapon for their level.
And as most lowbie quests (say lvl 1-25) are really a slap in the face (most don't even give you decent exp.) and have not been upgraded in reward since 'the beginning of time' ;) it would surely encourage roleplaying and questing in Everloot/camp/farm *grin*
Another option is just to allow them to trade items they can get, of equivalent value. When I need pelts for tailoring, I go to ec, and offer to make banded armor in exchange for pelts, same rates I usually pay 1pp for LQ, 2 for MQ, 3 for HQ, except bear which is 40pp. Calculate banded at 1pp per ac and swap. Also take spider/spiderling silks the same way. Works out cheaper for me, since the banded doesn't cost 1pp per ac to make, and the lowbies seem to like getting armor instead of cash. Saves them the time of turning around and auctioning to buy the armor after they get the cash. Could do the same with weapons, etc. that you loot.
Why make such a big deal of it. If you feel like helping someone out, even if it proves later that they weren't "worthy" of it, then do so. I help as I see fit, no rules, if I feel like selling, I sell, if I feel like giving something away, then I do that, regardless of whether the person is a potential twink or what not. Go with your gut and with no strings attached :) hehe
Just bought this sword last night for 100pp from someone that was selling it for 125pp originally. Only had 90pp at the time and had to sell my Mino Ax in order to get enough money. Well by the time I had the 100pp she was off on a raid with her clan and got killed in a high lvl area. By the time she got her body and got to me, 1 and a half hours had gone by. But for me, being a lvl 14 Ranger, I was more then willing to wait for a great sword like this. She was very apologetic, not that she needed to be, as I felt this was a more then fair deal. After I got the sword (was in BB and wanted to go back to Gfay so I could finally get pay back for attacking a willow wisp with a non-magic item eariler (newbie mistake... sue me :)) I had a willow wisp on track and then I noticed my packet loss in the red going up to 100%. I stoped figuring it was just a regular disconnect and got kicked out. Waited a few minutes so I could log back and when I did my jaw dropped. The server list said: Vazelle DOWN and then a few minutes later it said LOCKED. It was late so I gave up, but man... didn't even get to attack once :( Can't wait till tonight!
Have one question though, if anyone can answer. Noticed that the ratio is listed above as 2.9? I thought you meseaured ratio from dmg/dly not the other way around? Shouldn't it be 0.344 and not 2.9? If you do dly/dmg then a rusty sim with 5 dmg 25 dly would have a higher ratio (being 5 in that case) then this sword?!?!?! Where if you do dmg/dly it would be 0.2 which sounds about right. Am I just way off the mark, or am I referring to a different stat? Just wondering and if anyone could comment.
There are 2 ways to calculate the weapon ratio of any weapon. One is to devide the damage by the delay, doing so you often get a number below 1, such as the way your used to seing it. This means that a weapon with a ratio of 1 is a good weapon and the higher the number the beter. Where as a simpler way to do so in game (I rarely keep a calculator or pen/paper on hand) is to devide the delay by the damage, which usually results in a whole number. In this case you are looking for the weapon with the lowest number. Lower is better.
So to recap: Damage\Delay= (higher number is better) Delay\Damage= (Lower number is better)
Ment to say 5 dmg 35 dly on that rusty sim which would mean ratio of 7, but figured out that in this case the higher the number the worse it's deemed to be. Still think that dly/dmg would be a better way to report ratio because then small differenced could really be seen since in this case it would be 0.142 for the sim and 0.344 for the BAL. To each his/her/its own.
This is just as good...a light source too and svpoison and it is lighter. The draw back is 1 less dm :(
Now lets talk price....this thing should be around 400 or so.
There are so many peps who are more interested in looking good than kicking butt. Those types of peps will complain about the looks. To them I say "What Ever!"
I give it high marks...verses paying 700 or even 1k for a Crystalized Sword.
it seems you guys are divided on this swords abilities and whether it's worth anything or not..
lets see here, save vs poison +3, combined with (i think it was) splitpawhide armor, or lockjaw hide stuff, that's gotta be one damned powerful poison spell to affect you (*cough* trak *cough*)
for those of you that don't yet know, you can probably sit at the entrance to splitpaw and people will give you the excess pieces if you ask nice enough (lvl 6 bard got half a full suit for free! spiders can't touch him now)
and also, for you humans and barbarians out there, it's a lightsource, a good one, too, that you can still use to wack things with, where's the problem with that?
We killed a lot of destroyers and some veteran (someone said he has found this sword on one of them) but no BAL was dropped. What the hell i have to kill to get one of these sword? Vannah Horstimann Vallon Zek Nomadi
I picked one of these up for 100pp... And OH yes, I like it. Finally, I'm regularly hitting for 20+. Goes well with my Mithril Fier'Dal longsword or SSoM...
This one will hold me over until I get my hands on a Wurmslayer.

I went to check out the changes with my 45 ranger. I have a friend with me that is lvl 35. Hit tracking and have a Lord on top so we head for him. He was in the bartenders room with a destroyer and a foeslicer. Both of us ate it! Now I am not way twinked but I do have decent stuff and figured we had bad luck. Looted our bodies and waited for a new one. Spawn took about 17 mins for the lord to pop again. We took him out this time (by himself) we both got exps! looted a neat neck piece. Decided to stay and get my friend one before we left. Was running around while friend was medding and lord popped right in front of me. By himself he killed me before my friend got to us. (was full buffed and had a cleric valor spell on.) If these are 20-30 it has to be a decent group or full of twinks.
read below about somone wanting to duel wield them, well just fyi it is lore. And yes I have done some farming down there, my wife has a lvl 3 warrior I'm equiping. I did manage to get SOME exp down there tho, some of the foechoppers we blue to me, and yellow to the 28 warrior that was with me. And the named mobs were blue also.

Unless you're twinked, I'd say any one handed weapon with a ratio under a 3 (even this one, which is only marginally under a 3) is pretty good unless you're over 35 or so.
And even then, in many cases its still pretty good. I note the Crystal Grinder is pretty popular with the high level rogues, and that's only a 3 (though as a 9/27 it has pretty sweet backstabs.) And of course the wis-caster who occassionally melees is also pretty fine with a 3, less if it has wisdom on it.
This doesn't really concern the sword, but I've been reading these posts and I've become increasingly alarmed about something. I've been working on Monk's Treant Fist quest for my monk and had all but one last piece to get, which was the piece dropped by the Alchemist just outside Runnyeye in the Gorge. I've deactivated my EQ account since I'm going on a trip or else I'd check for myself, but can anybody tell me if he is still spawning there? I hardly care about the stats on the gauntlets, so don't tell me there's better. I simply liked they way they looked with a suit of Wu's armor and wanted a pair. Can anybody answer this one? Thanks.

Yes of course there are better. But just try to get a ranger or druid(druid needs to be 20+) mybe need to pay them a little for tracking services they most of the time dont mind to help you.
This sword isn't great but it doesnt suck either. Dont buy one for like a week or so though. I wouldnt pay over 100pp for this no way. I traded a velium axe and a unicorn sheild which well neither are that great heck I forgot i had the shield in the bank for the longest time.

Posted:Jun 04 2001 at 9:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) man this sword is real awesome! try gettign something like this at lvl 20! the Gleaming Short Sword has the same ratio but adds 5 charisma instead and is worth 1k so this sword is definitly worth more than 100pp
Any 1h weapon with 5 cha is a tasty treat for a bard. I have a lvl 40 bard, and when he duals with the partisan and GSS it nets him 11 cha. Usually though, I just keep the GSS in my inventory and use my partisan with a guardian sword (9/24 and a mess of stats) or glowing black sword (9/22 with 20 dex). The value in GSS is the 5 cha, period the end - the 10/29 is just gravy as far as I'm concerned. As for this weapon /shrug. You may be able to get a little more than 100pp - its a nice offhand if you're using icetooths claws I guess. It wouldn't go for 1k though. Crystallized sword (11/29) doesn't even go for that. BTW, anyone know if the graphic shows as a black sword?
Hey, I'd use this sucker. I'm a level 30 Ranger with a Mithril Fier'Dal Longsword and a SSoM... slightly underequipped in the weapon department, from the looks of these posts...
Hell, it's only 1 damage less than Crystallized Swords, and I'd love to dual those.

yeah but have you tought that not many ppl has ssoy on that lvl when you get that sword? Its very nice for mid lvls, but it doesnt suck actually if you aint one of those silly persons who buys everything thru e-bay.
My 42 warrior went to Liberated Runnyeye today and just ran around killin anything, not to much to kill since the farmers were already there with their trackers for the named. when right at the entrance to bottom lvl, in ante room at the bottom of ramp near room where golin captain used to spawn a Pickclaw Veteran was there! no biggie i think killed a few earlier no drop but lord can pop any where so I decimate him and he drops the Blackened Alloy Longsword and Blackened alloy legs. So dont despair farmers cant kill every mob that pops!!
Actually, and someone may say this later as I haven't finished reading the board, at lvl 42 you can still get exp in here. I was hunting with a lvl 42, 41, 31, and 33 and myself as 31 just 2 nites ago and we all got decent exp. Just my 2 cents on the topic.
And just one more thing I don't know how many people where there last year but now there are only like a max of 7 people in there at any given time. So who cares if you farm anymore.
