Drop from Melalafen too?

I was running through WW and got aggroed by Melalafen so I killed him knowing that there was a chance to get the Torn burnt book for my pally. I didn't get that but I did get a couple of Orbs of Tishan, 3 sachels, some spells etc. I was too concerned with getting out of there and getting alts up to loot the lore satchels so by the time I logged back in and noticed the crook I had no way to tell that it dropped from him (and I'd turned my log off). However I know that I didn't kill Gorenaire or Naggy so it seems a definite possibility rather than whatever random no-name mobs I had killed - and it was next to the orbs in one of my bags.

ya i have noticed the prices going up on prexus a few weeks ago i finally saved up 11k for a tolan's bracer. which on prexus used to go for around 9-12k usually but for some reason all i have seen lately is 18k and up :( figures

I picked up this weapon on a shout at the bazaar cheap. Even though my 2H blunt skill sucks, it has given me incentive to work on it. Work great to kill weak mobs when farming silk or skins. Mana free area kill. I've killed 4 spiders all at once when the quake hits. Can be dangerous to use cause you can damage someone you don't want to hurt. I once chase a ghoul with it in NK and the quake hurt a druid. Barely made it out alive to zone not wanting to kill a druid guard at the ring.

The weapon...

The weapon definitely has it's uses. Any druid who has one and gets rid of it it making a big mistake in my opinion. There are many situations, where the proc makes this the best buyable weapon choice for a druid. AE groups(where without it you have a hard time earning your keep), farming faction/quest/trade skill ingredients, stopping lower level trains, adding damage where sit aggro is a problem or you have to be in melee range to cast, and lots of other situations where this is the best tool at our disposal to get things done.

Yeah you can get better stats from a cheap shield and wep combo, but then you cant hit an unlimited number of mobs for 250 ish damage mana free it does tend to proc a lot in my experience, though no weapon really seems to proc "enough" for it's owner's tastes.

My advice is to keep one of these in a pack all the time and whip it out anytime you need it. It's a tool we can put to good use in the right situation.

Saying this weapon sucks is like saying a slotted screwdriver sucks because most screws are philips heads. You might not need it near as much, but when you do you'll be glad it's there. And at the prices they are selling for these days there's no reason not to grab one.
Nice Weapon

I am currently a 48 druid....

Druids dont melee over 35?(more like over 20 if youve got any sense) your ABSOLUTELY right....under most circumstances. Since i bought this bad boy....ive been beat'n on snare dumb and feared mobs like it was go'n outta style =)~. Even though im constantly get'n C3 up in the bazaar/nexus....this speeds the process up greatly. At 20% i slap on that last dot with my ES vambs...and go in swing'n...in DL...fight'n 2500hp or so enemies....every proc is about 10%. and so what if i lose 4 wis....i dont need as much mana now...and i can get 25 extra wis whenever i want since these chanters went plat crazy up in the bazaar(you can make 50-100pp easssssy in 2 1/2 hours) so i reccomend this weapon to any druid over 30 that can afford it....ya wont regret it

Procs at 30 for Druid/All
# Apr 03 2002 at 10:34 AM Rating: Decent
Mine began proccing at 30 and if I remember correctly it started at around 220dmg PBAoE and goes up by 4dmg each level.

If you have one, build your dexterity up but also use firefists and wolf form. It procs quite a bit.

Definetly fun, especially with my other equipment.
I porcupine hunt still at level 40 deep in Splitpaw. I have quite
a few alts that I play so I have some good
equipment from all classes. Forgoing the class
barriers I go with all dex equipment and do not
care if it has wisdom or not. With this staff,
I 'AM' melee.

Notables:
Cloak of Flames
Heirophant's Crook
Fungi Tunic
Fungi Staff
Manastone

Buff fully and carry this 'big' stick.
Using the following helps procs:

Firefists

this is not good for low wisdom casters
# Mar 03 2002 at 11:04 AM Rating: Decent
THis is not the best choice for low wisdom casters.

YOu sacrifice one whole hand of wisdom to use this. For example, if you have a test of vanear in one hand(10 wis), you can use a dark ember (5 wis) in the other and get 15 total wisdom.
Price is a joke

I dont think these things should be all that much...my buddy bought me one for like 2k. Where do you guys get 14k from lol? Maybe i just got a deal but i dont think this wep should cost that much!Oh yeah i think the wep procs at 34 cause thats when i actually get the spell...:)Hope i helped out some people.

proc damage vs. melee damage
# Feb 09 2002 at 2:21 AM Rating: Decent
I won this on a naggy raid at level 52 and has like zero 2hb skill. If I had 175 2hb like my 1hb and 1hs, this would rock for silk and faction farming or even as the finisher for fleeing mobs. Now at level 54 my 2hb is a pathetic 55 after much work trying to get it up. Makes me want to twink out a noob druid and start over. :P

I do more damage if it procs once than I do swinging with it for 5 minutes. Fortunately if I swing it for 5 mntues it usually procs a couple of times. But remember, it's AE and doesn't care who it hits. Don't use this in a group or a raid, solo only and be careful where you use it because you never know when you're going to AE a guard or something else generally not KOS to you.

Not sure about beastlords yet

As of now, BST is still not listed on this item. While I got this for my druid, I think my beastlord would like this. I have not given it to him yet, though....

Might be descent for a beastlord being as they can melee. Almost worthless to me as a druid. 2HB means giving up the extra mana/other stats I get from 2 items. Ok for killing off mobs after there running I guess, but then again I use ES vambs DoT for that. I wouldnt part with any hard earned cash for this thats for sure. I got a soul shepherd (13/40 wis 5)from the haloween events and its never left the bank, not as good as this but other than having fun in newbie areas or maybe geting stuck in from behind a tank on rare occasions I cant see much use for it

Faction hits
# Oct 17 2001 at 5:15 AM Rating: Excellent
This item is really nice to rise faction. KOS in Qeynos? Go to WK, get a bandit camp, pull all, hit, proc, BAMM! Or go to Blackburrow, train gnolls, hit, proc, BAMM! Or need faction in Kelethin? Go to CB, train orcs, ... well, you know :-)
RE: Faction hits
# Nov 14 2001 at 3:04 PM Rating: Default
considering only druids can use this and tht druids are not KOS in any of the citys you listed, that would be a pointless strategy. Now if you were trying to get into oggok, grobb, cabilis, or neriak (which is anything but possible) then it would be useful.

where did you get your info? for the last 3 thousand plus years in RW, elder druids have been know as Hierophants. There is only one elder druid per region, and only one hierophant period. after he steps down or dies he is know as a elder hierophant.

when does it proc??
# Aug 03 2001 at 7:33 AM Rating: Decent
I've read all the posts, and none of them say for sure at what lvl this weapon procs, can anyone help me out here??

Traded a Noble's Walking Staff for one of thesse after numerous price checks came steadily out with 10kpp. I got my Noble's Walking Staff in a trade for the value of about 100pp (at the time I didn't know it's real value, but I was pretty stoked!)
Any information will be helpful, thanks!

Limited Use
# Jun 07 2001 at 6:48 PM Rating: Good
I took this in a trade for about 6K, not sure why, but was glad to sell it later. Was great at one time but now 20/44 is worth about 100p for a 2hb without the process. Pretty good if you need to go into a dungeon full of greens, Kurns tower camp for also obsolete IBC for example. As the proc will clear those low mobs out in a hurry. Also not too bad for quad kiting when you are out of mana and the MOBS are close to dropping.
A better weapon is the Luminescent Staff (got for 7k), the dam/delay is even worse but that has a 184ish right clickable area effect. No need to get hit, although that has a 10 second cast time and won't work at all against some fast mobs unless they are rooted.
The H-crook actually processes before druids can cast the same spell, so it is cool in that regard.

I could imagine druids using this when doing tradeskills. Slap on regen and round up a bunch mobs and you wouldn't have to worry about running out of mana or being interrupted. For tailoring and such.

And really the stats are actually quite good.

This item just ain't what it used to be. Picked this up today for 2k, plus a sentry bracer and a sentry maul. Most people might oh and aw, but really I think I got the worst end of the deal. though I'm still quite pleased.

Anyone who has actually tried to sell one of these will know that it's not worth the 10-20k most people quote. It's a Nagafen drop, blah blah blah, but though it may have been worth that once in the day, nowadays druids get better wis off of a guardian shield plus a mildly decent primary for literally a tenth of the cost that most people want for the crook. Plus, it's druid only, which severely limits it's resale value, as any class specific item does. <shrug>

The proc is cool for perhaps fear kiting, even if you consider it just against one mob, and dex on a procing item is nasty. Heh, the main reason I got it was for the status symbol, which no amount of deflation can tarnish. =)
