The Serpent's SpineIf you use tattered scrolls, uses three different ones with same name, if you use torn pages, uses four different ones with same name. Pictures on each item are different. I suggest collecting both until you have enough of either one to finish combine.

This Tattered Scrolls just dropped at the Chef Camp in the Steppes. ... So lemme ask ya.. does it use actually 4 tattered scrolls for the combine for this quest? or 3? .. wondering if that was a typo or not

The three tattered scrolls combine in the container you get in ANCIENT TOMES quest to finish it.
