Using a bard to pull these out of the valley we killed about
15 with a full group and not one dropped the quill.

I just used the new lvl 71 druid spell Harmony to calm one that was level 75 then pulled the one that was level 76. However much to my chagrin I found out the hard way that they summon. Or at least that elder icewing did.

Where is the mob located at that drops the quill. Lots of peeps lookng for it...

The elder, along with adults can located in the maze valleys behind the bear caves. There also spiders to clear as well.

Yes, south of the wood fortification and just north and above the bear caves in the eastern wall is a discrete and narrow opening. I would call it the north entrance to the eastern maze I guess. The map as of this date is missing at least 2 small turn off cul de sacs in this area, in and in front of these are where the griffons roost (some have spiders or ice monsters too but most have Griffs.).
When I was there a roaming goblin and spider also haunted the main chasm just past the Elders where the Adults started. At the eastern right turn to the south there is also a shoot off to the north (not shown on map)one of the Ice Abominations roamed south here as well.
Adults summoned.
My quill dropped off the fifth Griffon (Killed one roaming spider, to prevent adding, killed first griff with Gobby adding, killed second Griff, set up camp in cul de sac, killed three more griffs with gobby adding on fifth.)
Oh, there are areas that are Ice - the slippery kind (lol) - so be warned.

Turn the quill into Librarian Hemfar (can use the find button) in Crescent Reach for experience. You don't need the quest before hand. Almost 2 blue aa at level 75.
