55 ranger, 66 cleric, 66 enc did the entire quest. Worst is the Overseer. I ported my druid around and checked from time to time. When he pops, get a few together and whack him. Not terribly tough, 150 and summons. GL
Got this helm like a week ago. Threw in a decent STA aug and I was looking at a decent AC/STR helm with + 17 STA and decent resists. I could easily wear this til planes content.
This is a quest which means you will always be rewarded. Those helms you posted, most are drops so there is a 99% you won't get em' And this helm is pretty good for the quest difficulty.
My point was: to whine about this being Tunare only is pointless. There are many other excellent head pieces in the game now, so to whine about missing just ONE of them . . .
And this does take a raid to get it at 55, unless your 5 friends are in their high 60s with lots of AAs. I hope to get the other two Kael heads I need this weekend, on a raid, then take out the Overseer on my 55th Season Birthday :)
Frostgiant Overseer and all of the giants around the Kael entrance for that matter, were easily dispatched by: 50 bst 54 ber 56 ench 56 monk 59 ranger At no time was there the slightest danger. Monk could have easily done all, except Overseer, solo. That was the last head I needed to finish this quest. Proud me!!
The first one is 35AC and has HP and Mana. They are all great helms and I would take them over this one any day. To say that SOE is unfair for making ONE of MANY "end game" helms Tunare only is just whining for the sake of whining. Now if this was the only helm . . . but clearly, it's only one of MANY that any Rangers can wear.
Aye, but all the ones you listed require basically a raid force.. arena in Kael and the FG overseer can be done with one group... AT least at the level htis helm would still hold interest.. granted you could shell out a buttload of pp to buy the droppable ones, but...
But hey, Karana worshipers get a sword, so... it balances out.. sorta...

But if it looks really crappy.. Like a regular helm.. like Tolan's.. I hate that look... and the BP's too... I have been thinking about starting a brand new ranger... Wood elf... Everything a wood elf wears looks sweet.. The humans got the sucky graphic... The golden leaf set with helm of the tracker looks good without Luclin graphics.. i wish they would make a human graphic alittle cooler... BAH, anyways.. Can anyone please send me the link of this helm on A human?
I have a ranger that has been working on this quest when she can, yes there are some better helms in the game and yes some ppl think the graphix of the helm suck. Who kares about graphixs when a stat on a item can make it so u either get a 1st degree burn or a complete crispy burn.
now for my little rant..... I am getting sick of seeing people rant and rave about how the ppl with tunare diety get alot better stuff then the karana diety. yes at the begining of the game it says choose wisely, hey my ranger was my first and best char I have played so far. if you don't like the things that can be offered to your char. start a new one. or learn to play the GAME as it is A GAME. players of Tunare are protectors of the land. karana followers believe and respect the power of the storms and the life-giving power of the rain. They offer shelter from the storms to all who need.
All I ask is please try and consider that verant had not only the players in mind when they created items, they also had various other game issues before them. So if you play there game, take a look at the larger picture and maybe there are still some things out there undiscovered that will be special for various dieties or classes

I am not a 'fashion conscious' player. However, ever since the day my Guild leader turned up wearing this hat, I have wanted it as much for the look as the stats.
The Helm looks brilliant - deep gunmetal grey with decorative patterns etched into it and those two little horns. Very gothic, with a bit of a celtic influence.
After months of thinking about it, I finally got the helm three nights ago. I finished the hand-in's, got the helm, ran up to my RL wife's 58 Druid and slammed the new helm onto my head, yelling "Look at me ! How cool is this?"
There was a moment of silence from her side of the room, then a huge burst of giggles. So I changed the screen view to see what was wrong...... instead of the Horned Helm I was wearing this horrible thing that you often see bards wearing. Some people say it looks like an Egyptian Pharaoh's hat, on some servers they call it The Alien Helm and, I have since found out, on one server they call it the Peenie Helm - you can guess why !
*Sigh* My guild leader is a wood half, and I am a benighted, uncultured half-elf. Apparently a sign of being uncultured is having to wear a silly hat on my head.
Needless to say, my guild and my mates are having a lot of laughs :)
I've had the Helm since 50, and I wouldn't trade it for another helmet. Before you get started...I play on Firiona Vie, all you need is one Outrider to turn in the head for multiple rangers all at once. The Helm is NOT no drop on FV. We've had trips after collecting all the heads where a single outrider turns in heads for four helms.
Haha, numbnuts. Funny stuff. Anyway....uybros,/Avandia, whatever...I know Kolani, and know she's had the helm since before she was 55. I'm probably gonna have to sweet talk her into doing the turn in for me as well.
lol....numbnuts...thanks for reminding me of that word.

I have Kallis's Head, a bloody protector of Zek, a smashed protector of Zek. The only head you need for succesful MQ is Overseer from WL, Ive done him hes a breeze w a slower, and doable even if no slower long as we have 1 cleric or 58 druid. I will even go w u to kill him, and well go up to Pog together from same zone. Cash items up front in 3/4 and remaining after u recieve helm, jsut to cover my a** so I dont get jacked. If u want what most consider the end all game helm for rangers, unless u can go deep in VT ToV or Sleepers this is it. Call up on me for this helm and show off to all the n00bs that dont got it.

Why 'complain'? Because providing a valid argument against something silly, what you call complaining, is how things change. Things don't change when you take an apathetic, 'just deal with it' attitude towards things...in fact, that facilitates more of this thinking in turn meaning more crap in the future.

Posted:Jun 02 2002 at 2:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hehe well i guess this is one of the great things about being a nonhalfling rnager... and they were all the rage after that patch too... well they may get way better stats but, i get this helm (once i can do the quest hehe just need 2 more lvls) so for all the halfling rangers and nonhalfling karana rangers, i have one thing to say. get informed. if u had researched the class before u made it worship karana u wouldnt be in this mess. so dont complain becuase its ur own fault.
I've never seen such a shortsighted counter-flame before.
Well there are multiple reason why Karana following rangers have a right to complain.
If you had a high level ranger pre-velious and all of a sudden this item popped up, is it fair to have to completely remake your ranger and just to obtain what many consider a defining endgame helmet?
What was the first thing you did when you made your ranger if it was your first EQ character? Did you check to see if some relatively obscure (obscure in the sense that you were new to EQ) item was usuable by you 54 levels later?
In all honestly when/if PoP sees some nice Karana items and the shoe is on the other foot, I'll expect the wheedling sniveling punks like you to be whining and ******** then.
agree with jab 100%, when start out eq as a lvl 1 newb and can barely tell the differnce between a goblin and a orc i highly doubt ur can be looking at lvl 55+ quest that are based on ur diety.
Bah!!! When I first loaded my copy of EQ almost 10 months ago i picked the deity karana because i thought the rain keeper suited my personality better than tunare and the tree hugging theme behind her. I picked karana, and i dont regret it even now since i play EQ to play a role that suits me. I picked a ranger because i liked what that title had represented in my mind before even thinking to research what their role is in EQ. I play my ranger as my main still and have barely played any other class because i have found my initial idea of what I'd like my EQ to be was right on 10 months ago. i posted sarcastically that i was upset to find that the best (open for debate) helmet was not equipable by my character who i have raised over the period of 10 months. who wouldnt be, but in the end it doesnt even matter because i am playing a character i like to play and that suits me well. i think the plane of storms is going to make many tunare rangers bite their tongues as they find out karana rangers will be on equal playing ground soon enough. Anyway the point is who cares whether you choose a human and karana over a wood elf and tunare... EQ is meant to be a diverse world otherwise it wouldnt be so addicting.
It was Salaninsunshine that made the point. But, you are right. Jbantik did make a valid point. How well does anybody know how to research their very first character? Did you know the vast amount of resources/websites that are available when you first bought the game?
Not all of us choose our diety based on the armor we can wear from it.
I chose Erollisi as part of the *character*. There still are roleplayers out there.
No, I didn't do research on my first character. I wanted paladin of Erollisi. I got paladin of Erollisi. I could care less about Nature's Defender; I'm proud of my diety choice and at least hope that there will be parity for us in Planes of Power.
before i started playing, i was so interested in EQ that i would read websites and boks and such to learn about the game. when i chose to be a woodelf ranger following tunare, it wasn't because i knew the advantages, i just thought it would be a fun character to play. and yes i know i just repeated what has been said before.
BAH! Curse all of you and your false gods.....Inny should bow down and give me his uber loots (at least quest for them) rather than making me kill him.
ANYONE GOT A LONK TO WHAT THIS HELM LOOKS LIKE ON A HUMAN RANGER? and since we are on the subject, what about the look of the Runed Scouts BP on a male human? C'mon, make a ranger happy, and show me the graphics! ;p
Frost Giant Overseer: Pops in Wakening Lands. He does NOT have a place holder, he has his own unique spawn spot near the laborers. He spawns every 3 RL days. I just stayed in WL invis near the other ones until he popped. He was level 56 at the time, same as me. I stayed in WL claiming him, and waited for people that were passing through WL that could maybe help me. I recruited a 60 Monk, 60 Wizard, and 60 Cleric, and myself, a 56 Ranger at the time. He was not very hard at all. The monk only needed 1 CH, but we did have to pull him away from the Kael zone, because someone was training Wuoshi to Kael zone line at the time.
Kallis Stormcaller: If you're on a raid to kill Vindi, this guy will be pulled and killed, as he blocks the way to Vindi. This guy was yellow to me at 56, but he was like most of the named giants in the arena. Make sure to ask if you can loot his head before the raid starts, so they don't destroy it. Also, this giant spawns every 3 hours, that's what I heard, I haven't verified this.
Protectors of Zek: You must kill the Protectors of Zek with the CAPITAL P. There are only two of them that start with a capital P, and they stand right next to Kallis. Once again, if you are on a raid to kill Vindi, both of these PoZ will be pulled and killed also. BTW these were even to me at 56. Also, these 2 giants spawns every 3 hours, that's what I heard, I haven't verified this.
Hope that info helps. If you have any questions, just reply to this post. BTW the helm is well worth it. ;)
ok i have seen this helm twice now with old graphics on the female wood elves it looks incredible it is an iron mask with antlers on males it looks like some sort of alien hat it is really terrible i wish it was mask with antlers for everyone ah well
I sucessfuly MQ the Helm. I had 3 heads and my guildmate 1. We zoned into PoG and I tracked the NPC. We both give him the heads, my guildmate clicked "GIVE" first and then I clicked the "GIVE" button. I was considered aimably and he was indiff I am wearing the Helm.
wow, ok heres the scoop, 3 heads drop in kael of the Zek guys, and the giants around them. the 4th drops off the frost giant overseer he spawns every 3 days right next to the frost giant laborers, right by the WL/Kael zone.
as far as the stats on this helm, incredible how could you complain, so it has no wis, wis over rated unless you are a soloing ranger, and have fun with the downtime, besides, use your bow instead of your spells, how much mana could snare possibly take? snare, then use bow, does more damage than our crappy dots and nukes anyway.
the frost giant overseer isnt that tough, we did with 2 52 warriors, a 51 bard, a 52 shammy, and a 54 druid, i was in a group by myself with a 49 druid, just to do damage. we did without a cleric, as long as ya land a SLOW on him hell go down.
as far as the giants in kael, you either need one 55 plus group with a FD puller to split the pulls, or 2-3 groups of 50plus peeps to tae em out.
hope this post is more informative than the mindless ramblings of whiny rangers that posted before me.
If you check, you'll find that the Immolate spell takes 20ac off the mob, as well as the 240Dot. While the DoT may not be worth too much (averages to about the same damage I do in the time it takes to cast), it significantly increases the damage the rest of my melee does to the mob, as well as anyone else's in group.
