Item Lore: A small book with damaged and missing pages
Book Text:
This treatise is an explanation of how one can focus the power of enchanted jewelry by careful shaping of the enchanted mount, and the gem that goes in it. With this application you will be able to augment different aspects of a gem, and get it to influence the wearer in a way that they
| may specifically desire.
This system will only work with enchanted metals, so I would not bother even trying to make one with normal metal. The system works equally well with silver, gold, electrum, platinum, velium, and palladium. To make the mount you will simply need
|
| to melt the enchanted metal into a jewelry mold for the appropriate cut, in your jeweler's kit. This will get more difficult to do without ruining the metal, the more precious the metal, so be careful. The molds are reusable, but delicate. If you make a mistake, the mold will be destroyed along with the
| metal which will have seeped into the broken mold.
To cut the gems, you will need a jeweler's glass and the appropriate cutting tool. The jeweler's glass is individual to each user, so you will have to make one for yourself. To make one you will make yourself
|
| a glass disk by melting fine sand with a gnomish heat source in your jeweler's kit. Once you have this glass disk, you will need to use grinding powder with the glass disk, and grind it into a concave shape. Use three measures of grinding powder, and repeat as necessary until you get the lens to the
| shape that is proper for you. You may have to do this many times in order to get it just right. Once you have a lens, you will need to mount it in a cylinder that you can grip with your eyebrow and cheek. Use a silver bar and heat it with a gnomish heat source in your jeweler's kit until it is
|
| the shape you desire. Then simply fit the lens into the cup, and you have a jeweler's glass that is just right for you.
The cutting tool should be available at some merchants that deal in jewelry. The cutting tools will all be on one ring. It is sometimes annoying to find
| the correct one, but keep comparing the tool to the template in your jeweler's kit, and you will find the correct one.
To cut the gem, be sure that you have the proper tools handy, and use them with your jeweler's kit and the gem and carefully cut the gem to the shape you
|
| desire. The possible shapes are square, round, oval, half-moon, trilion, pear, and marquise.
I have currently only been able to make these cuts with Prestidigitase, staurolite, and harmonagate. I am sure that with enough time, I will figure out how to do
| this with other gems. I have found that square cut enhances strength, round cut enhances intelligence, oval cut enhances wisdom, half-moon cut enhances agility, trilion cut enhances dexterity, pear cut enhances stamina, and the beautiful marquise cut enhances charisma.
|
| Once you have the cut gem, and the appropriate mount, simply fit them together in your jeweler's kit. Be careful because you could ruin the mount at this stage, though your cut gem will be safe.
