The one and only person on Fennin (last time I checked) to weild this Uber-Monster of a weapon. It is a tad powerful, but I watched him kill the Dain (which I warned him would ***** with his Thurgadin faction, but he failed to listen), and the Dain managed to wipe out a significant chunk of the attacking force. It was definately a worthy prize for the battle fought.
Just because no else did I have to flame the guy who started all this. Because it bothers me quite a bit that he doesn't think elves can be tanks. Although elves are smaller in frame than humans it doesn't mean they are weaker. He speaks as if elves have bones of glass or something. And he makes reference to D&D and tries to use its logic to defend his point, elves have always been warrior types in D&D rules. And many times they excel in it. Like someone else here made a point of the fact of age, an elf would spend about a century of their lives in practice in his trade, compare that to a human's 10 years tops before they go out to make their places in the world, I think my money would be on the elf. Also bear in mind that in D&D of the humanoid races there is none more deadly than the drow (dark elves).
Weapons like this are just proof that Verant is trying to ruin the game. By putting items like this, and that cleric bp that completly heals, nothing will be a challenge in a few months. Sure seems like their goal is too make everyone bored, so that enough people, letting them shut down the servers and work on EQ2 heh.
1 Have you ever even seen someone with this weapon. I think it will be some time before you even see one person with this weapon, and even then it will never become common.
2 If it ever came to the point where it threatened the game in the way you describe they would counter by a new expansion with level 100 mobs, or they would nerf it. These is their bread and butter my friend. And there are solutions to what you describe.
3 If they don't give the most uber tanks in the game weps of equal caliber they will not be able to fulfill their group role, and taunt the mob effectively.
Velious didn't exactly make EQ easier. You look at all the Velious gear and say "It would be sooooo easy for an uber guild of all 60's with the best Velious gear to take down Innoruuk (for example)." But the uber guilds who can get items like these aren't interested in the "easy" epic encounters anymore. If you can get this weapon you are already going for Dain, Thormax, Jaled Dar's shade, Kerafyrm, Zlandicar etc. Even with this sword and the Breastplate of Mourning (which has been nerfed btw) these encounters will never be easy. Sure you can triple attack for way over 100 dam with this sword but Yelinak looks at you, says "Is that supposed to hurt?" and then claws you for 6 x 650 dam, bashes you and AEs you for a nasty amount of damage. Getting this sword will perhaps make the game a wee bit easier for you (provided you don't have a better weapon already) but is the game overall easier or harder after Velious? I'd say harder.
My 2 cp, for whatever they're worth (probably 2 cp ;) )
Just when i thought everyone on this board was a moron somebody comes along and gives some good info. Anyway anyone know what the proc does? I heard it makes your balls bigger--can anyone confirm?
I dont even see whats so great about this weapon. It has a delay of 46 and weighs 12. This might be something a warrior would use at the beginning of an encounter with the mighty strike discipline, but it's not something a guy is gonna want to swing for the duration of a long battle.
Agree! I do not presently have a 12 stone wieght item for my warrior. But, if I remember right, the 10 stone weight item was really working my stamina bar in long fights. =)
Not really, as the other poster says not only is this on a very hard mob but its rare.
Think of it this way, if dain frostreaver was in some big emtpy zone all by himself he'd be kinda hard. But he isn't. He's in a zone with a trap to certain death in the center (easier to walk into accidently... as i have ; ) ) since horrible unfriendly creatures are in there. He also has tons of friends nearly as high level as he is in the immediate area. FYI, they are not going to stand there and watch a guild kill him.
On the tribunal server he's alive every time that I go there which means that no one probably has even killed him yet at least on that server.
Comparing this to the complete heal bp is really outlandish. This is only a good ratio SLOW 2 hand. VERY FEW classes or characters would even use this. A warrior that high will almost always be going a couple fast good ratio 2 hands. Most SKs that high have a lot of great ratio 1 hands to use which they still have the benefits of a shield with. A paladin without something better is about all I could think of using this.
Meanwhile the cleric bp with complete heal is in fact being nerfed. It IS simply too powerful. One level 55 cleric with the bp and a 55 warrior can kill virtually any single mob which will not kill the warrior in 30 seconds (that is the healing right click post nerf.) In fact people have had screenshots of them doing it. Compared to this item the sword here is a small rusty dagger.
Its all about balance and this weapon won't upset balance at all. The ratio is good but its freakishly slow for anyone who'd be of a level to get it. It has some ok stats and resses but no ac or anything special, that might just make it something a player might use to boost resses in special circumstances.
Moreover for every level 60 like the dain who MIGHT drop something even this good, lots of crap is dropped. Except for said cleric bp it would be very hard to mess up balance in this game at high level since it is so far the other way 99.9 percent of the time.
Yeah they are makeing this game alot easier, I honestly think you should shut up, Look at the Lvl range to get this weopon and the rareity of it, You actually think that any server is gunna get "FLOODED" with this NO DROP WEOPON as well as the BP your talking about, AInt no way this gunna be a twink item and sense they are of the lvl to achive this weopon They should have the best
By no means is this "easy", Dain is exceptionally difficult to take down. There is a guild alliance on my server that tried and failed last night. They had 70 people, 20 of whom are lvl 60's...these guys think nothing of taking down Trak, Talendar. Gorenaire and Wuoshi in one night, but they couldnt take Dain. If you ask me, the sword is not even worth the difficulty of the MOB.
If anything they should start "making the game easier" because Anarchy-Online will crush EQ when it is released as you will see numerous EQ and AC(Asherons Call) players flock to the game. I for one got extremely BORED of EQ when I hit level 51 with my Druid. Verant can at least make the game more interesting for players other that those in "Uber" Guilds who have nothing better to do than go on a 12 hour plane raid and camp "Phat" loot. Gimme a break
You guys are realy nice. I seriously wouldn't mind meeting you in RL. This is the guy that just lost it the other day (about elves). No one seriously flamed me. You all used intellect to make good points even after I lost my grasp of reason and just ranted. I applaud you. Just wanted to say, I didn't mean in EQ that elves shouldn't be paladins. It's fine. Can you see what I mean about Elves being intellegent, ie. casters, that logic thread? Now, I shot a hole in that logic a second ago (in my head). There are different elves as there are different humans. I'm basically saying (if EQ were in fact RL) that if I were off adventuring, I'd sure as hell take a High Elf Paladin, that went thru his 200+ years working out and getting great equipment, over a puny little 30+ year old human that never worked out and happened to find a set of rusty plate armor.
So, first...apologies for the rant :) Second...thanks for taking it easy on me :) Third, will someone find that 15th level SK and PK him for 32K please?...I've got 100pp for the one who does it :) (j/k of course..he's not worth that much)
err..that was supposed to say somewhere in there that I've changed my opinion on the use of Elves as Paladins.
OH..and it still doesn't change the fact that I'm pissed about this sword being no where near as good as Nature's Defender. For those that haven't seen it, follow this link:
http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=4646
It's a sweet sword that only High and Half Elves can use. Now, this is found in PoG, which is Tunare's realm, so I can understand why Humans can't use it. But, that better mean that when Mithaniel Marr's plane is found (or has it been already?) that there is a sword for just human paladins.
To the guy that was wondering if I complained about the erudite only shield that dropped from Maestro...I'm unfamiliar with the shield. What I am complaining about is that if there is an item that is class specific (i.e. just for Paladins), that either it be for all of the races that can be paladins OR have another equally as good item that can be used by the remaining races.
For instance - helm drops that is Paladin ONLY, but can be worn by 2 of the races that can be paladins. Then, there should be another helm that drops that can be worn by ALL the other races EXCEPT the first two. Doesn't this make sense as a "balancing" issue?
Can anyone tell that I'm writing this in a much more calm state of mind :)
Half Elves can have Mithaniel Marr as their deity in this game as well as Humans. I am a 56 Half Elf paladin and have Mithaniel Marr as my deity, so if someday Verant does make a plane for Mithaniel Marr I would really hope that they don't make a sword like Nature's Defender for human paladins only. If they do though, I would seriously consider starting my paladin over. But I have noticed that Verant has made items for pretty much every paladin deity with the exception of Mithaniel Marr.

Ok, it can be used by trolls, ogres, barbarians, humans, iksar, and dwarves. Nice range except for the people who fit into those size categories and can't use it. Dwarves can use it but not gnomes or halflings, humans can use it but not half elves. Sheesh, what's the deal.
Look at da races again. Now luk at da races base strength. Da one wit da weakest strength be humans. Anyting wit less base strength than a human no gets ta use dis beautiful weapon. Dwarves strong, but not as strong as da big races. Humans just be da average race so anyting dat below average str no use.
Ok...look...sword ain't bad. BUT, why the hell does it PALE in comparison to the new weapon for the wussy High Elfs (& wood i think). Just because Firiona is a damn High Elf doesn't mean that they make the best Paladins. I'll say it once and I'll say it again, ELVES ARE TOO FRAIL TO BE MELEE CLASSES! This just makes sense. They have the intellect for casting, not meleeing. I realize this is going to be flamed big time...I really don't care. This is coming from a person that played the basic rules of D&D all the way thru to the newest set of rules and will always believe this way! Now that I've ranted, and taken a breath, I feel MUCH better (need to go kill festering hags!). Let me add this - IF (wish I could underline and bold that) this weapon is not meant to be the Human version of the Nature's Defender (the l337 elven weapon found in PoG), then I'll apologize ONLY when the appropriate version is found. AND, for you elven Paladins out there, 1) No I won't duel you, have no exp in PvP (heh) 2) Maybe you just need a better sword in order to be better than your human counterparts!
I do have a serious question (as the above is really not that serious, just relieving stress from finding out Nature's Defender is elven only). Does this possibly mean that Mithaniel Marr's plane (has this plane been found yet and what's the name?) will have a weapon quest for a similar weapon? Just wondering.
I became bored with my powerful caster, (High Elfie chanter), so I decided to go for a challenge, and if you think that high elfs can't tank, than you have obviously never grouped with an erudite hybrid. hehe, Roethke is the best of the worst erudite shadowknights.
no flame from me but i would like to agree on one point high elves just arnt great tanks but EQ doesnt follow any rules of D&D other than there are dragons and ogres
EQ and most RPG's seem to atleast base many things on D&D rules. There are some MERP stuff too like halflings, which are clearly based on Hobbits (With their hairy feet and all). D&D Halflings are more like Kenders.
(To me EQ Halfling guards look like Hamburglars)
Paladins as we know them (Lay-hands and all), Rogue backstab, Dwarven Clerics, Half-elf Rangers, etc... all are based on D&D ideas with minor modifications made to them. I could go on.
And yes even Elves are clearly envisioned by verant to be like D&D Elves or they would be more like Santas Elves, cause thats what an Elf is to most of the world. Tolkien did have a pretty good idea.
But this said that doesn't mean that if you play an Elf you can't be a melee class. I say do whatever the game allows you to do. I personally would never play Ogre or Troll cause they too ugly. Dwarves are a nice compromise.

But will there be the best of the best champions? As in the winners of all the classes duel and we find out just what IS the most powerful class in all of Norrath. Can you imagine a 60th level gnome wiz killing a 60th level Ogre warrior? ...... only if the items he carries will permit. Now THAT would be interesting. Oh, and one final note, in the new 3rd edition AD&D you can be any race and be a paladin. Only under the old "first edition" was it strictly not allowed. And yes EQ started out emulating AD&D almost to the "T" with the race restrictions. AD&D will always be the guidepost for ANY quality role-playing games. If they veer too far from this archtype, the world starts looking like Asherons Call----weak. Too alien. send a tell sometime.... Jevin Magus of E'Ci
actually on the AD&D note - the original 1st edition handbook (1980) and hte second edition PHB (don't remember date), BOTH have only humans as paladins. now, personally, i like the fact that multiple races can be pallys - the only class i think really bites is rangers (rant rant rant...). however, back to the point on ad&d being the guidpost - the reason dungeons and dragons is so popular is BECAUSE it provides an element of the familiar along with the forign. that's why AC sucks - no familiar elements. that's why the gamma world rpg (paper and pencil) that TSR tried to release died. thats why the d&d settings that are too forign (ie spelljammer) die out.
if you want to talk d&d sometime, send me a tell - hehe.. i play both eq and d&d way too much.....
A_Programmer04: What, that stupid thing about giving monsters intelligent attack routines instead of just massive amounts of HP, ATK, and mana to make the game challenging?
A_Programmer01: No you givling, something even better! Let's make weapons drop that are even better than most epic weapons!
A_Programmer04: Haha, that would r0x0r! We can watch those dumb paladins who struggle and suffer and stay 52 or lower forever in order to get their Books of Scale from Naggy and Vox, and then laugh at them when a sword just as good as their best epic starts dropping from monsters!

The sword is only as good as a Fiery Avenger.. but jackass the Epic Weapon for a paladin is the Fiery Defender, which smokes this so bad it isnt funny... **** Fiery Avenger Damage: 33 / Delay: 44 / Ratio: 1.333 Amazing
Tee hee hee, I check my old post after a month, and i discover that it has gotten replies! Neat-o-rific.
By the way, unless your "lvl 45 guildy" can press a button and conjure up Vox and Nagafen to kill repeatedly (unlike the real game, where they only respawn a week after they're killed), and if he is 100% assured to get the book from each *IF* they drop, then it's not that easy to get a FA/FD.
This guy who I am replying to obviously has never played a paladin who is trying to get his epic.
On the bright side, I can make 1k pretty easily. Ding 53 while playing normally, get invited to a Naggy/Vox raid, then let a necro sacrifice me for an Essense Emerald so I lose the exp and get back to 52. It's easy cash, I tells ya!
What's sad, is that you didn't know you can get the items you need for your Paladin epic off the bigger dragons in the game.. the ones you don't need to be level 52 or under for.

I believe that the neg3 cha deal there just means that it's a lure. Not that it actually decreases cha. If I remember right, that's how they flag lures.
