Book of Scale
# Oct 07 2002 at 4:57 AM Rating: Decent
Like many paladins i hated the thought of sitting on 20 naggy and vox raids to get the book of scale (first vox raid i went on put me off them for life the leader got the raid wiped before even getting to vox)... however what is not well known and that i found out purely by luck is that the book is scale in NOT no drop, so instead of sitting on naggy and vox i went out and made some pp and picked it up for 25k (not too bad really) from the bazaar. Now all i have to do is the rest of the epic! To everyone who has killed naggy and vox to get the books well done to you its an amazing achievement.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 15 2002 at 1:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) And I here people say that the Druid epic is easy??? You have to kill Vox, Naggy (or other Kunark dragons), Miragul (watched a single group take him down) and join in a hate raid, a fear raid, and a hole raid (actually, a dwarf can probably just follow them without any fear of death), and viola, epic completed. Other than Fear and Hate, all of the pally epic can be done by a single group (team manaburn if nothing else), and people say the Pally epic isn't worth it risk vs reward???

RE: WTF

Please, the pally epic may not be one of the hardest epic quests to do, but it should be ranked as one of the toughest to get the items. sure, vox, naggy, kunark dragons seem easy right? WRONG, the books do not drop everytime, and not many people want to go on Naggy or Vox raids anymore, and on our server (brell serilis) kunark dragons are MB'd by the Merry Band and books are sold for MQ at 10k, making it an average problem for the 53+ pally to get ahold of the books needed. i have a 57 pally roommate who's just those two books away from his FA, he's been on 40+ old world dragon raids and hasnt won one book. sure, you can buy the pieces, but alot of chars arnt uber rich, or didnt buy plat online, some poor players are those who have played since EQ started but just wanted to experience the game for what it is. so, now quit your ******** about the pally epic, it ranks up there with the mage/necro/sk epic in toughness to accomplish the quest.

After completing a most unsatisfying quest to get the level 49 pally spell, "Divine Might", I can now honestly say that I am not going to bother getting my epic. Verant can keep their endless quests.

I'm not going to bother questing it simply because I already have a sword with the same exact damage/delay ratio (well it is 1 delay off, but who cares).

Some of you purists out there may consider this crass or selfish, or even unbefitting of noble knight, but I recon there aren't many people out there that would waste countless hours (not to mention wasting your friend's time) to upgrade a weapon by a factor of one delay.

How did I get my current weapon? A pally guildmate gave to me after he got his epic! He did it for "pride" too, and then he spent half an hour convincing me not to waste my time. The sword he gave me finally "convinced" me.

The items I have in the bank are going the way of my Ro armor components - the destroy button. Why spend all that pp for Ro when a small raid to Icewell will outfit you nicely in RV.

I know how lame that sounds, but you all know that deep down, you would all do exactly the same thing. This game is not the same as it was 2 years ago. We all need to realize this and move on.

(edit)Corrected the name of the spell in the first paragraph(edit)

You have to be kidding, right? You are level 35 with a soulfire, yet you feel compelled to judge me (using incredibly bad grammar) because I have a better weapon than my epic (which I got a few days after I posted my original comment). Excuse me while the fog of irony lifts from the room.

Well, if you must know, I bought my first GB at level 20 - spending every cp I had earned in my career to that point. It served me well until level 30, then I sold it (before it was made no-drop). I quested for it again at level 40 in preparation for my epic. To be honest with you, questing for it was a total drag.

Let me enlighten you, as you seem to be very young and immature. This game may be called EverQUEST, but questing for items is usually more tedious than fun. I feel relief when I complete a quest, not satisfaction. Endless travel and camping is not my idea of fun. Killing powerful creatures with a good group is way more fun for me (and usually more rewarding).

This is my opinion. You don't have to share it, but you need to respect it. Not all players are hardcore gamers. Some of us are casual gamers that have a real life. I only have a finite amount of time that I can play EQ, so I need to maximize it. Endless camping, or waiting for a raid to start just cuts into my play time.

I may just get the epic anyway one day. I have most of the parts already. I am definately going to buy the book. No one I know is low enough to fight Vox or Naggy, and no one on my server feels compelled to hunt Kunark or Velious dragons when Luclin and PoP mobs are way more profitable.

When you get to the 50's, then you will see that what I say is true. Then you can come back here and apologize to me, but please learn how to use punctuation marks by then.

Yet you said that they're going to meet the destroy button, in your original post.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 01 2003 at 11:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Your a jerk... get over your self... go in a closet and DIE! Questing is the point of the game, not just having the better wep. Its not everbuy or ever-be-given-somthing-you-didnt-earn.
RE: Bah
# Dec 29 2002 at 12:26 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, i'm in my 50's. I have 16 alts, and I detest spending more than 1kpp on ANY item. It is, in my opinion, much more satisfying to either kill a mob to get the item I want, or quest it. That IS what the game was designed to be like. But since EQ has been so screwed up over the past few years most people don't realize that. Granted, I love the new zones and all, but the game should still be based on questing. Apparently, Sony and Verant think so too...as they are severely limiting the ability to "twink" with EQ2.
I don't pick my quests to get an item. Rather, I choose my quests based off where they'll take me and what I will have to fight. Even tho my alts are in their 50's...I have never been on a Vox or Naggy raid. In fact...I have only been on one Plane raid. I'm looking forward to doing the Fiery Avenger quest just to kill Naggy and Vox. It will be a new experience for me. And if it's a bad experience, oh well...it's still new and it is, after all, only a game.
But, you must agree, the game designers, (or Game Gods as I'm sure they call themselves), have made mistakes with every expansion they have come out with. An epic, by its definition, should be the very best weapon you can obtain in the game. It's nice to see the cool new stuff coming out with all the expansions, but along with the expansion they should have upgraded the epics. I was playing EQ before Kunark came out. I remember when BABS was the ****. Just cause there is better stuff out there, doesn't mean it still isn't good. It's just not as good in comparison. I think of it as a challenge to actually earn my gear (and i don't mean earn the money to buy it LOL). Granted, most people of the same level as my alts are better equipped, but that doesn't affect my play. I can still hold my own (and actually do, as I prefer to solo or just group my two accounts).
But it's all just an opinion. And everyone has one. And unfortunately, there seem to be too many people in the game that feel the need to insult others as you do. Since EQ2 won't have the same twinking options...perhaps most of the a-holes of the game will remain on EQ and not switch. (sighs)one can only dream. LOL.
Anyway, I'm ranting....have fun all (aferall...that's what games are for).

To Archnady or whatever the first poster is, the spell is Divine Might, not Flame of Light. Flame of Light is a lvl 51 fire based DD nuke that sucks.

You may have a sword with the exact damage/delay as this, even with 1 delay off but this has stats, you can BASH with this, has a proc, too HPs, mana STA AND this is needed for the EPIC which is much better than what your using at the moment, and it is one of the easiest, cheapest and efficient swords in the paladins ******** What sword you usin, Fatecaller? It sucks. Nice STA boost but not worth it. I know once I get this (need to go to Air for a turn in), I'll be getting rid of my Argent Protector. I salute the guildie that got his epic but he probably had a CT weapon before and thinks the epic pales in comparison or somethin, whatever. You can't let people make up your mind for you. And usually people dont do Icewell raids, less their going to the Dain. I never quested Ro and dont intend too, but man, I am GOING to do this no matter what. Uber guilds, sometimes ask you if you have finished your epic, it says soo much about you. Deep down I would do the the opposite of what your doing. You weren't playing 2 years ago if your only lvl 53 lol, and most people HAVE realized this and HAVE moved on. I know I wasnt playin 2 years ago and hell, I made a paladin cause of te fiery swords lol. And btw, why are you using a Fatecaller at lvl 53? Thats the only weapon I can think of with a 33/45 dam/delay...

OK, so I wrote the wrong name of the spell. I was posting and didn't feel like looking it up. All you had to do to get my name right was scroll up.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5082.

You never heard of it because you probably only know of items for sale in the Bazaar. A few days after I posted my original message, I went to Velks with two groups and was awarded this:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4544

Since then, I have hunted with guilds/friends and have had three weapon upgrades. I got this with one group, and skilled 2hb to master:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=9861

So, while you waste your time trying to get an outdated weapon, I will probably get two more weapon upgrades, and enough exp/AA for 2H Bash.

By the way, with particle effects turned off, the pally epic looks like a sword hilt with no blade.

As for guild recruiting, most guilds want you to already have your epic because they hate people that go into guildchat begging for help with their epics. They also hate when people join a guild, get help with their epic, then leave for another guild.

Notice how no one higher than level 53 has a negative comment to my post. You newbs will all see what its like, and then remember my words.

I am a level 57 Paladin On Bristlebane. I have one book and everything else for my epic. I currently have a windblade that I bought (OHH THE SHAME) But when i get my FA and FD i will use them. What you fail to see in the true value of the weapon is the stats. As a paladin your job isnt to be a DPS monster. Leave that to the Monks and Rangas. Your job is to absorb damage keep aggro, and interrupt spells that NPC's are casting. Once you realize the true purpose of the weapon and why it is so good it gives you a new respect for it. Learn why your class exists, then learn how to make that class work with the other classes and you will get far more groups than you did before.
RE: Bah
# Feb 06 2003 at 3:04 PM Rating: Good
the problem with your arguement is that you are trying to offer alternatives to the Fiery Avenger which is 33/44...but the FA is NOT the pally epic. The Fiery Defender is, which is 35/40 with 15 AC, 20 STR, 10 Sta, 15 Wis, 70 hp, 20 mana, 10 svs ALL, procs a 155 DD, you CAN BASH WITH IT, weigh's 0.1 Also it has a particle effect. So you're running around with your BoB axe...big whoop! Looks like you have an axe of the iron back. This, the FD, is the Ultimate in cool for paladins, just as the Inny's Curse is for SK's and hell anyones epic...!

If your reason for not getting your epic is that you can get better in the bazaar, good for you! Big you were on a raid that killed bob and you got his axe...I've seen level 1 characters with a bob axe! Alot of paladins hate the fact that they have to stay 52 to raid naggy and vox, I see two remedies for this problem:

1) get ALMOST to 53 then go 100% AA! Run 3 and Regen 3 never hurt anyone!

2) Kill the SF dragon or Gore for your scales! Level up if it's that big of a problem.

I am level 55 atm, and have a 51 and a few in their 30's. I've seen people with no drop stuff they shouldn't have at low levels b/c they tagged along and looted, I've seen uber loot on low level twinks many many times. But I have only seen 3 Fiery Defenders on the Bristlebane Server. I know good and well there are more paladins with the FD on BB, but people don't always wield it. Reguardless of what you say, it IS a status symbol and it IS a big deal to get one. When i see a guy with a windblade or wideblade greatsword go by, I don't think "HEY, a Windblade...you rarely ever see those around. He probably killed something really awesome for that!" Instead I send them a tell and ask them how much they payed for the thing! And 99% of the time I hear a price response! How pathetic.

With a little patience, anyone can get things that are uber and not no drop, or even things that are and are not in the planes. the FD and ALL epics are the ultimate form of accomplishment.

what do i know, i'm just a bard =P

Go get your epic.

I'm proud of my Fiery Defender. I quested all of the weapons, and I'm proud of them.

I got a 45/46 weapon two weeks before I finished my epic..

And then I bagged it for FD. :p It's still around when I don't want aggro during a raid, but FD is still my favorite weapon.

He's technically right, but I would still rather quest the items. Because the whole point of the game is to have fun. And the quests are fun. If you don't find the quests fun, then you're better off not doing them. That's the whole point.

I quested the Ro armor even though I can probably get better soon. But after I finished the Ro quests, it felt like a real accomplishment. And your epic, well that's your epic.

There are better weapons out there than the epic because of the expansions, but after all that work, you can say "I earned this." And there's some value to that. You proved that you could complete the quest, and you had fun doing it.

Just my opinion.

Especially since Luclin came out, this quest isn't really worth the effort you have to put into it.

I know what you're gonna say. The epic isn't about the reward. It's about the prestige of its completion.

Well, that's a point, but a Pally may as well just get a simple "Thank You" from an NPC for all he or she must go through to get a sword that isn't close to as good as I can get tonight by taking some friends and camping a mob someplace.

Countless hours of faction work. Countless Naggy and Vox raids. THEN, a Necro that's just as tough or tougher. AND, I pay 1000pp for the "privilege" to get this sword.

Count me out. I play EQ to have fun. Not to boast about how "I got my epic". For I would be bragging about wasting endless days of my gaming time on attaining a weapon that is frankly inferior to many of the newer dropped weapons available.

Part of getting a player to DEVOTE that kind of time and effort is making the end result worth it.
Again, Verant falls pathetically short of the mark.

SO have at if you will. And after 40 or so Dragon raids and countless deaths, I'll be more than glad to let you inspect me with all the wonderful drops I got doing something way less complicated and more useful with my recreational time.

Okay man. You should quit your paladin RIGHT NOW. I was in the same point of view as you and I did quit my paladin, but then something made me re make my pally. So I did. I went on about 10 dragon raids, got both of my books, and I was MORE than happy to pay 1000 platinum to get this sword. I mean, good lord. This thing used to be the best weapon in the game. If you wielded this you were the ****. Its a big status symbol to say "I did my Fiery Avenger, helluva quest but I did it." And it is a good sword, sure the damage/delay but its not THAT bad. The stats + proc is a nifty add on, and well frankly if you want your epic, you need this. The secret to getting your books *gasp* is to get in a guild that can do the dragons, camp in Sol B with your neighborhood druid xping (you need some before you can talk trash) and tracking him. Do the same in Perma except with an alt clicking the wall. Once the dragons dead, PRESTO you have a pair of books. And the necro that we have to kill is easy, you havent looked up the quest, thats all. And countless hours of faction work? Is 3 "countless"? Or can you count up to only two due to your ignorance. Also, its 1.5k to get the sword.

Next time, buy some front row seats and learn ********

Now now, no need to insult me because I expressed my feelings. And like you yourself said, "it USED to be the best sword in the game".

There are comparable blades that drop in Akheva and Chardok. And a couple level 50-60 groups can go to these places and fight. Granted, you might have to take a few groups for mobs that drop really UBER stuff.

I'm definitely NOT a twink. In fact, all the gear I own I have killed for or won on rolls. I've played my character "legit" so to speak from day one, so I think that in itself says something more about me than whether or not I do an epic that isn't personally worth the effort involved to me.

As far as status and "uberness", if you guys are into that, that's great. I was in no way slamming anyone. There are those of us who could care less about being in a Uber guild.

I was simply voicing my personal disappointment at a quest I feel is outdated and not worth the effort.

LOL, another lowbie powergamer that became high. man, now you really dont really know about everquest and why it was made, you probably just play because you want to be the best there is, want to get the best items, compaires this as **** when he looks up all the nice weapons that drop from high end mob encounters, just to let you know, the Pally epic still ranks well with other high end weapons, especially for those who arnt in a well off *uber as you say it* guild who cant raid those high end dungeons and mobs or pharm up dragons at will. the epic is a status symbol, talk to a lot of high end guilds about the requirements of getting an invitation, most will say the basic requirement of getting in would be to have your epic. the badass guild on our server is Silent Redemption (excuse spelling, just got out of KC group and im tired) and they have a pretty basic view of enrollment, be lvl 60 and have your epic. also while im here, lots of people Roleplay, yes, roleplay, and if you ever followed the lore of everquest, you will understand the epics a lot more than just some quest to get a nice weapon. i also know a 50+ pally who still wears Ro Quest armor simply due to the fact that he roleplays, so the epic would be a nice addition to him and his guild. the epic is a work of art, time, dedication, sacrifice, all are parts of what makes your character you, fine, take the short path, take the easy route, but dont flame people who like the feeling of accomplisment in themselves and those who helped. i am finished with this last Quote from Morsereg "Crucify me... I dont care. I give up."

You've got to be kidding me. I know this is an old *** post, but I still see posts like this as of recent. I play on The Rathe, and let me tell you - nobody role plays for jack squat. Sure you'll see an ogre trying to simulate a low intelligence creature with broken english every now and then, but that's it. All I ever see now are people linking each other their equipment back and forth - EQ isn't about roleplaying it's about what you wear. I played the damn game when it first came out and I never saw people role play - they were greedy, selfish, and _I_ tried role playing by using a store bought claymore with my warrior cause I like two handers. But all that got me was ridicule because it wasn't "uber".

Honestly, though, you fanboys who defend the game to the death sicken me and ruin these forums. I try to come here for information and some well thought out opinions about certain pieces of equipment, and all I see is some immature moron go off incoherently about like someone insulted their mother. Ralston was just stating his opinion about the epic and I happen to agree. If someone disagrees, there is a way to say it without getting defensive and immediately going to insult the person. I really do think that the epics need an upgrade. Why would you bust your *** to do these epics when there are so many other better weapons you can get from luclin and PoP that are no drop? Look at this list:

http://www1.bbiq.jp/aensland/eq/pal%202h.html

I see a LOT of players wielding the swords on this list now. These weapons smoke the pally and SK two hand epics. Now, I can understand perfectly how someone would still want to go and get the pally epic for pride/sense of accomplishment. And I can respect that opinion. I can also respect those who feel that the pally epic isn't worth even the time to look up after taking a glance at the stats. I cannot respect those who ignorantly get fanboyish and start flaming those who's opinions are different from theirs. You wanna defend EQ like it's your life or something.

Man, here's some advice to those fanboys who defend EQ like it's their mama. Log out, go outside, and realize that there's a whole nother world out there for you to discover. :)

Was it really necessary to insult Ralston for stating his opinion? He did not flame or insult anyone, he just gave an opinion that happened to be different from your own. While I don't necessarily agree with everything he said, I respect the fact that he said it in a friendly manner.

This game supports questers, farmers, power gamers, twinks, tradeskillers, you name it. There is no single way EQ is supposed to be played, that's part of its appeal. It really all depends on how the inidividual chooses to play the game.

I havent done the quest, and may not. The responses to Ralston's post make me think he must have hit pretty close to the mark though. I can't see any other reason for people to resort to insults instead of discussion. I beleive it is good to hear the different opinions people may have. I also believe there is no honor to be had from unprovoked personal attacks.

If you want it, get it. The Fiery Defender is a righteous blade no matter how you view the quest, but no one is an inferior player simply because they choose not to pursue their epic. There are lots of things to do with your eq time.

Those who skip this difficult and time-consuming effort will only increase the pride and prestige of those who do complete the epic. It wouldn't mean nearly as much if everyone was running around with a flaming sword.

It's ok to disagree, but isn't it possible to do so without being mean?

Regardless of how good this sword is, it's a necessary step to getting the epic. You're not likely to get a better weapon to drop for a pally if you're not playing this game pretty seriously. I was using a Massive Dragonclaw Shard and a Sarnak Battle Shield, and I'm happily giving them to my brother now that I finished this quest.

Second. There are no free lunchs. You and your "friend's" are not going to camp a pally sword better than the Defender, I don't care what lvl/class/uberness you are. Short of a long raid to NToV or some of the highest lvl luclin areas, there are pretty much no weapons better than this for a pally. And if you're a lvl 50 pally, and not a twink I doubt you're going to be seeing those weapons.

Third. There is a definitely sense of accomplishment in doing this quest. It's a mark of both your knowledge of the game, the dedication to get a job done. Even if you don't do it, and keep it in the bank, it's the satisfaction that you completed something that very few other people do.

Fourth. The epic is a reflection of you. It says a lot about you. Many good 55+ guild will ask if you have your epic, for just this reason.

Regardless of what class you are it's your epic, because it's hard to get. And there is definitely more pride in something that you earned, versus something that you were given, or ebayed, in some of your cases.

My 56 bard friend and their group dropped Melalafen in Western Wastes this weekend. I logged on just after they killed him and lo and behold he dropped a torn, burnt book. I was able to get there and loot it barely in time.

I have not read anywhere that he drops this, so I thought it might be welcome information for those of us who have not yet gotten their epic.

Not possible. You must enter the Plane of Air to do this quest. You can't enter a Plane before level 46, period.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 16 2001 at 4:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK, if pallies, SKs, and warriors aren't meant to deal damage, just to tank, then how on earth are they to keep aggro on themselves? Personally, I feel that warriors should have first dibs on any no drop loot, simply because they are supposed to tank, and they can't really do that unless they have the ability to cause aggro, by dealing damage. Yes, I know that the more often you hit a mob that the more taunt you cause, but if that's true then why do monks wielding IFSs cause more aggro than a warrior dualing a yak and a lammy? After all, the warrior is attacking almost 4 times as often as the monk, so if all it takes is attacking often, why is it that the monk deals more damage and gets aggroed? It's all BS, if you ask me. Tanks need to dish out as much damage as they possibly can, and in order to do that they need the best weapons they can wield. You may dog me now for wielding a wurmslayer, but if it had one more damage on it, then it would have the same dam/delay ratio of any primal velium one hander...

Brother, don't be so hard on your self, you may very well be an idiot. The Fiery Avenger is not a loot item it is a Quest item. Letting greed overshadow your thought process is not a good characteristic. Warriors have plenty of excellent items, and their items are typically easier to get than Paladin Quest items. Stick to things warriors are able to understand, fire bad, food good.

Talendor in Skyfire Mountains can drop the torn, burnt book. Gorenaire in the Dreadlands can drop the torn, frost covered book. Faydedar in Timorous Deep (not the triggered lv 55 one for druid epic), and Severilous in the Emerald Jungle have a rare chance of dropping either book. The Kunark dragons are quite a bit harder than their old world counterparts so be careful. I hope this info was helpful.

For those of you who have not played that long.... Before Kunark or Velious, there were only 3 continents, dual wielding yakesha's was Uber, not someones level 5 twink. The Firey Avenger was quite arguably the best sword in the game. People actulaly leveld by themselves there was no, what is it called? Oh yeah Pl'ing. FBSS was one of the highest priced items in the game. People diddn't ***** whine and moan because thier class (that they chose by the way) got one uped by another. Heck, I remember the first guy on Tunare getting his Fiery Avenger. It was even posted in the patch message - "Congratulations to ..." Wish I remembered his name... I ran into him with my paladin that very day, by all coincidence. I was in awe, and wanted to be like him someday. lol. Well, I've got the SoulFire now, and I am going to be working hard to get the Fiery Avenger, because, to me, it is still one GREAT weapon and a high honour to any paladin. The fact that it is no drop is also a sign of pride when you wield that blade. It shows how patient and dedicated you really are.

I agree, I remember DREAMING of my Soulfire and driving my guild nuts getting them to help me on it all the time. Those who are really Paladins at heart are proud to carry their flaming sword in hand as a badge of honor, not because it slices through a mob faster than Frostwrath. Any paladin who has worked hard enuff to get FD or FA has what it takes to really play a paly.

Pallys do not do this quest? well let me explain how damage works.. yea you can get better damage delay weapons.. its not hard realy on some servers, but you will be Vary hard pressed to find one that is under 35k that has the damage / delay of the FD, and the stats, and the proc, o and pallys can still bash with it.... say it with me 'Interupt' the only thing palys are realy in uberguilds for, well that and puling DT mobs.

Now you could say i am wrong, that the proc will not go that often or that interupt is not that big of a deal, but pushing a big mob suxs and is Dangerious, but if you got a gating mob, well then it could get realy nasty.

Secondly, the proc, well 100pts here and there is not that much, and for soloing without buffs from shammys, the proc rate is pretty slow i am sure. but when you get those nice shammy buffs and your stats read something liek 255, 234, 255,.. exc.. this tends to proc every few swings..

Thirdly, Bash = damage = good.

Fourth and finaly, if you do not wanna swing a FLAMING GOLD HILTED SWORD, well you are just not in touch with your inner Warrior.

SF is bad
FA is great
FD is an epic

that s all :)
mmm last thing u can BASH with fiery avenger / fiery defender, that s not a bad thing :)

i don t agree with "Main stats on any weapon is the damage/delay" because at 55+ dmg are make by rogue/monk for melees class... paly/war/sk are here to TANK and 35 hp + 5sv all is really useful

Umm yes there are better weapons out there than this but it is still a very good weapon. Also us Paladins need to get this sword in order for us to get our epic, Fiery Defender which just happens to be one of the swords that you mentioned being as being better. Kinda funny how we need "This Overrated junk" to get our epic (a better sword).

This is a game, people can do what they want, think what they want, IF they think FA is the epic let them, or if it is FD let them think that too. And why is everyone complaining geez! It wouldnt be a epic quest if you could just go at lvl 12 and get all your no-drop items and hand it in and say "I GOT my epic," sure there are some things that you can do that, but for some challenge they made it that way =).

Alright, even though some of you guys are oohing and aahing on this sword there are better (excluding FD and ND) than the FA in terms of dmg/dly. I'm one of the very unlucky Paladins who made a wrong turn somewhere on their leveling and I'm KoS to both the Deepwater Knights (Erudite Paladins) and Clerics of Tunare (High Elf Cleric and Paladin factions).

Because of this I'm unable to complete either quests which puts me in a very bad situation in the post 50 levels. At this point the usual weapons don't cut it anymore, Arbitor is too slow even with a FBSS, ORB's damage is too low, Ghoulbane and Soulfire are worthless at this point. Only thing out there really is the SotM (paired with a SBS) or one of the Velious Necropolis weapons.

I personally now use a Crafted Velium Claidhmore 30/36 2HS. Although it has no stats it's dmg/dly ratio is better than the FA, which to me makes it better than this epic. (FD and ND are still slightly better dmg/dly ratio, FD by .1 and ND by .2 I think)

So if you don't get this awesome weapon don't despair, unlike popular beliefs Paladins do have a wide range of weapons to choose from.

There is one way to raise faction for the Deepwater Knights. When you hit Tox forest there is a dock and there is a very low lvl necro next to it. It will take you awhile to get from threatening, or scowling to ally. Which I have personally havent be able to get to yet.. but Im working on it. I know its really horrible for a high level such as yourself to go and perform this faction hit, but it can be done. I went from Dubously to amiably in about 20 times of killing him. I needed this to complete my Ro armor quest. As for the High elves I cannot remember what can be done to gain faction, check out this site for faction quests with the Clerics of Tunare..there must be something to change it. Good luck my fellow Paladin and keep your head up proudly.

Yet, a faster way is to killl the necro by the fire gobby came in the Lavastorm Mountain zone. Located about the middle of the zone. Solo at 30 pretty easy. Not sure of spawn time, but have been able to wack each time I make a trip to SolA.

How good of faction? For the Ro armor quest, the Deepwater Pally in the Pally camp would barely talk to me. Killed this necro once and he is buying me beer! :)

first id like to say this weapon is awsome cant wait to get it. the quest really isent all that hard . the book of scale is hard. i come from pvp server and this weapon=dead casters :) has everything you can want on a weapon. and for all you pallys complianing why complian when we get 2 great epics p :) have fun with this till you get defender p. and any pally knows that nothing but hard work is required to become ubber. and for all you lucky guys on carebear servers be glad that you can walk in game with kunark armour or anything that isent no drop. cause on noncarebear we get gang raped by 3 to 4 pkers p :) (this is why i wear gaurdain armour on rellos zek) . but to all those pallys who are close or only need your book of scale keep workin guys it pays off. capizm dravenblade 51st pally on rellos zek (non carebear :))

The way I see it, our Epic Quest is The Fiery Defender. It's your choice to stop at the point where you have The Fiery Avenger, which would be a very important part of the whole Epic indeed.
It's like keeping the Brilliant Sword of Faith and not getting the Soulfire.
That is my viewpoint.

I don't see why ppl think this is not the Paladin's epic. As of now, Paladin's have two epics. The Fiery Avenger, and it's upgrade: Fiery Defender. Also, if you are a High Elf, or Half Elf that follow Tunare, there is an Epic specifically for you called Nature's Defender. I hope this clears up any confusion.

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 11 2001 at 1:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hi, yeah last i checked, there is only one epic per class. FA is a precursor for FD, and Natures Defender is a completely different quest altogether. Those other 2 swords are good, but not epic, only the Fiery Defender is the epic, you have to do the Fiery Avenger as part of the FD though.

Fiery Defender = epic
Fiery Avenger = not epic

Fiery Avenger is easy, relatively speaking. Ghoulbane is easy to aquire, Soulfire isn't much harder. The books from Naggy and Vox are a matter of time and luck. Getting the Necro to pop is a matter of cash, and having a good enchanter. Killing the Necro is a matter of telling your guild you need help with part of your epic. When this is announced (with a days warning), plenty come running. Turning it in is matter of cash and friends. Running around killing stuff with your new best friend is a matter of finding ANYTHING, just jump out of the sky and beat down some FP guards.

It was the Epic b4 Kunark.
FA is harder than FD
# Jan 17 2002 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
Fiery Avenger is harder than Fiery Defender. You have to kill Vox/Naggy which isn't hard, but just luck if you get the book, but after 52 you're done until you're 55+ and can do Kunark dragons. Then you have to clear to Isle 4 in Sky to hand it in which takes a while and unless you're experienced with Sky and have a fair amount of high levels, you'll have to do a massive CR.

As for Fiery Defender, you need a Tainted Steel BP from Hate (OMG they rot all the time), a Shield from a level 55 guard in Nektulos (OMG 2 group raid, if that) and a Sword from the Keeper of the Tombs (harder but nothing compared to other epic fights). Then you have to clear Fear (that happens all the time, compared to Sky which isn't) and hand in FA and the three items after they have been cleansed.

The only thing that is holding people back from getting FD is getting the frost book, plain and simple it IS harder than FD.
RE: FA is harder than FD
# Nov 10 2002 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
I have to agree with GarisonForbringer... the frost book is the hardest item to get in order to complete the FA quest... I know... and then fighting your way to isle 4 (pegasus isle) is no easy matter if your not in a large guild (we had almost 2 full TPW's, thank Brell for the click sticks)... btw, I finally got my Fiery Avenger last night :)

I do have one correction on your post though... It is my understanding that once you have purified the BP, Shield, and Sword you will then give them back to Reklon Gnallen to get "Mark of Atonement" and it is the Mark of Atonement and your Fiery Avenger that are turned in to Irak Altil in Plane of Fear to get the Fiery Defender. Please correct me if I am wrong because I am only lacking the tainted sword in The Hole atm... heh

btw... I am max ally to Deepwater Knights and am ally with the Peacekeepers... Peacekeeper faction is a pain in the **** to raise, very time consuming (harder than DWKnight faction was to get). As a side note, I am now "Amiable" to Freeport Militia and Corrupt Qeynos Guards... I spent days in HHP and HHK buying or killing for Orc/Gnoll Scalps and Goblin Ears...
