Funny, after I read your post I thought of lots of words to describe you. Honest wasn't one of them though.
ROFL, no idea why, but that comment was golden to me.

you take a wizzie with about 300 aas ex4 conserv of xegony and the 26 % buffer boots from VT not to mention mage summoned jewelry then you wont have a mage out dps a wizard on a raid
Must be raiding with the wrong Mages.

Mage DPS contribution to a group, is not as simple as just looking at their nuke damage plus pet. What about the summoned pet weapons/haste mask/belt they create for the other pets in the group? And improved damage summoned items they make for the nukers, etc.
Its like figuring the DPS of a bard. Their individual DPS may not be the best, but once you figure the effect their songs have on GROUP damage, the equation changes. If I have a group with a BL, Necro, Shammy and an SK tank, you bet I'd prefer a mage over a wizzy, since we'd have FIVE juiced up pets, after the mage summons kits, or even better, if we had a chanter and/or druid with a DC pet. The DC rats in COD, with a full pet kit, and pet haste, are insane DPS. On the other hand, if the group has a bunch of pure melee DPS (Monk, rogue, Berserker), the wizzy might be preferred.

One of the best thought out & explained non-flame posts I have seen in a while.
