just wondering what the graphic is for these legs. kinda tired of the old fashion leather look.

On pre-luclin models these looked really nice. Medium brown with yellowish designs on it. Matched very nicely with my Ulthork hide tunic and ulthork hide arms. Post-luclin though... regular leather again. Same with the tunic. Regular leather. *sigh*

been curious, anyone have any info on why they took out the velious armor designs on the luclin models? i'm sure it's something like not having enough time to add more skins, but it seems like thats something minor, and it was nice to have something different to look at instead of "plain ol' leather"
Still bugged
# Jan 14 2002 at 8:05 AM Rating: Decent
Hey all, just to let you know this quest is bugged. I tried this quest twice so far. Both times, I was able to get the item back from the GM luckly. He told me the first time that he was on Vacation. But then after a few patches I tried it again. This time he was almost not going to give it back to me, explaining that he warned me that it was on "Vacation". Ok bub, I remember that. But when you say that, it only tells me that it was bugged for that date. It doesn't tell me not to do it till you see a message about it in a patch.
Oh well, I got it back anyway. 8-)

Why is it bugged? What's so hard to fix? Did it ever work? What caused them to shut it down?

The quest is up as of today. Completed it with with a friend moments before the servers just came down. He got the leggings, and I believe he is a happy Pally.. but then who knows if he will still have them after he logs back in.

I did this quest on Thursday, January 3, 2002, and when it came time for Fergul to appear, he had an explanation point in front of his name; which meant he was bugged. I petitioned, and the suggestion was to email the GM and tell him my problem. I did get a response back telling me the quest is not operational at the moment, and the only thing he could do was to give me the Harness back and try again when the quest is fixed. I was hoping to get the legs, but I'll take the harness and try again when the quest is fixed. Just a suggestion, after you give the broodmom the harness, have a mage in your group to coh you up to the fort and another member in your party follow the mom up to the fort.

Do Fergul and Grakkel have to be up before you turn in the harness or can they spawn after you give them to her?

When i did the quest the BM became his pet, but it didn't matter because every time i rooted him the BM jus stood there next to him and didnt come after me. The biggest thing ya gotta worry about is the mana draining adds. I did it with the help of a lvl 60 Bard. The BM despawned when i killed Fergul. Also adding, i followed her from the cave to the fort, she has some weird pathing but she made it there.
Look of Legs
# Dec 10 2001 at 9:01 PM Rating: Decent
For Wood Elves they look like the Ulthork/Thurgadin legs. Vines and such.
I don't know for other races.

I had no trouble with this quest being 'bugged' but maybe I got lucky.

I got these prior to the release of SoL. Though I like the stats my barb shaman looks pretty silly with what looks like plate armor on top half of his body but just a green cloth kilt and some leather boots on the bottom half.

No Quest isn't bugged
# Dec 03 2001 at 8:23 PM Rating: Decent
For those of you saying it's bugged bc the Broodmother becomes an NPC pet. That's bc of the Harness of Control. It makes her obey the closest being, Npc OR Pc. I've done this quest up to getting to her and noticed other people allowing her to become a pet by letting a dire wolf or other mob getting closer to her than they are .

Yet I have once question. Do these have a chain, plate or leather look? I've never gotten them and peopel who have won't cough up an answer.
BM Bug bites again
# Dec 03 2001 at 9:00 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I tried this quest last night as well. My experience was I gave the harness of control to the broodmother. She gave the appropriate response. I headed to the fort but somewhere along the way, the Broodmother became the pet of a dire wolf. I led the dire wolf along with the broodmother to the fort and Fergul began to run. We killed Fergul and all I got was giant meat. Petitioned a GM and that was 100% useless. They can't/won't do anything in regards to it. So I'm back to getting the items and will try again soon.

Keeping the BM from becoming a pet
# Nov 01 2001 at 2:11 AM Rating: Decent
It seems that lately on the Cazic-Thule server, the BM has a habit of becoming a giants pet when she wanders to close to the regular frost giant scouts. This is a Bug in the quest that has not been fixed yet. There is an easy way to fix this bug, which led to me getting my legs tonight...

1. Keep your normal group up near Fergul, but have one person set aside for giant clearing.

2. Announce to the zone that you are training giants to the EW zone, and start pulling every giant you see to EW.

One of my guildies did this tonight, dragging 12 giants to zone, and the BM had no problems, no Bugs. Just don't stop running...they will keep up.

does anyone know the spawn time or know a way to find out the spawn time on the druzzil ro server? I cant get the help to stick around for 12 hours. The broodmother dosnt seem to wanna show herself.
What I did...
# Nov 05 2001 at 5:45 PM Rating: Excellent
Since the Broodmother is indifferent to all, you can bind yourself in her cave. I simply checked back every few hours, and one time I gated she was there!

I "hear" that the spawn time is 8 hours, but that's unconfirmed. Just keep trying, eventually you'll find her.

you have to do quest in order for him to drop legs. the quest isnt that tough, as long as you can get the components in a group. (acid or sceptre from queen in cc hardest part). that blood wolf is a tough spawn too, i kited him around and had the thurg guards wack him and the wolves bite him...i got the final blow though so i got to loot. did this quest with me and a 52 mage (i was 51 at the time). he cast 2 earth pets, i dotted then nuked like mad. very resistant to snare, so i wouldnt recommend trying if you dont want aggro

# Nov 22 2001 at 3:19 PM Rating: Decent
I did the whole quest by myself at 45 with no problems... well, beside the fact that the broodmother was bugged and she ate my harness, and didnt kill any giants, leaving me clueless...

Just wanted to let you all know, Kaldaim is kinda poor right now, and wants to sell his FBSS.. had it all day and couldnt sell it, and I am suprised.
By the way, Kaldaim was *not* level 48 on the 22nd, and was still 47 today when he logged hehe.

Fergul
# Oct 23 2001 at 4:11 AM Rating: Decent
I have a question about this quest. If you don't do the rest of the quest and just kill Fergul and the other does he still drop legs? I just pulled them both and group got one down but then we had aggros and had to leave Fergul like 2 nukes from death /cry So can you just kill him and get them?
RE: Fergul
# Oct 23 2001 at 7:22 AM Rating: Excellent
No, the legs will just drop if you do the quest. fergul may be killed a a regular spawn but he doesn't drop the legs. As soon as you lead broodmother to the giant fort Fergul will despawn and repop with the legs. He only has em when triggered.
not bugged

I have done this quest tonight and did the following. I went invis and conned every shardwurm on the way to the broodmother. Some were ready to attack but I was able to get to the broodmother without trouble. I gave her the harness and ran out the caves directly to the giant fort. The two named giants were outside the fort (the side near the spires) just wandering around a bit and then they stopped near the right side of the fort. Soon after, the broodmother came around and attacked one of them, The other one, Fergul started running. I snared Fergul and then cast winged death and root until he was dead. I had about 2 bubbles of mana left when I was done.

bugged brood mother
# Aug 06 2001 at 3:06 AM Rating: Good
When I logged on a guildie told me the BM was up so I hurried to GD and gathered a group to do this quest. The BM was wandering the zone and I didn't want to waste my harness. I shouted to see if she was bugged and the zone replied yes. I petitioned a GM and he assured me that the BM was not bugged but wandering because someone had attacked her.
Well I gave her my harness and got the appropriate response but then she turned and walked away from the fort and headed towards Thurg. Needless to say I had a sinking feeling in my gut...but after about 5 minutes she returned and the battle was on...we killed the giant without to much difficulty and I now sport some awesome legs.
GM did tell me that the BM puts them in tell hell so I guess this is to say it isn't always bugged when she is wandering.
Good Luck

Hints
# Aug 05 2001 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
1. You dont need to kill the queen, just kill the lowbie orcs near the entrance to CC and you can use the acid they drop instead.
2. If you go to the area near the EW Zone line and track, you can almost always get a blood wolf on track.

Hope this helps.
Update: Matching tunic
# Jul 18 2001 at 3:49 PM Rating: Decent
I found a nice tunic to match these funky legs...

Crystalized Shadow Tunic, rare drop from tower of shadow.

Looks like leather with old graphics, but looks pretty sweet, extremely detailed leather with blue trim with velious textures enabled. This is on female gnome cleric. Blue trim matches kromrif legs and ulthork arms.

These also look pretty good with a Treeweave and are a great replacement for my Mith Greaves. As far as the quest goes, we didn't pull the giant as far out as I would have liked so it got a bit more difficult, lots of adds.. didn't help much either as right after I looted, got a BIG lag spike, went LD and my group had to evac.
RE: Update: Matching tunic
# Oct 05 2001 at 7:41 AM Rating: Excellent
Those look extremely ugly with all non-velius chest pieces on a halfling. They have a kind of purple girdle places on em which matches perfect with an Ulthork Hide Tunic, but with most other chest pieces it looks bad. Doh :-(

This buggy Quest
# Jun 22 2001 at 10:29 PM Rating: Default
Ok, so now I have completed this quest twice. Once, I gave the harness to the broodmother and she just became a pet to a dire wolf without ever reaching the giant fort. The wolf then attacked, and so did she, but I panic animaled it, and she stayed with it as it ran away (I ran to Thurg). So, no leggings that time.
The second time I did the quest, I killed fergul, no prob, got the leggings. Then the servers malfunctioned and booted everyone as I was medding. When I finally was able to sign back on, Poof! no leggings. Also, I now had the harness back. Lovely.
So keep in mind, kiddies, that the quest is bugged, and so are the leggings themselves, it seems. Oh, and yes, it did save my character when I looted, so it's not like I just lost them to a rollover update.
As for whether Verant cares and will help...lol.

It's quite possible that it rolled back to a save further than the last one. This is likely what happened, and had nothing to do with a bug.

Not saying it ISN'T a buggy quest. Just that in this case it probably wasn't.

A while back I heard second-hand about a 'save buffer' in EQ : the save that's logged to the server is the 2nd or 3rd back from the latest one (why they'd do this, I do not know - why even call the most recent a 'save' then?). Ever since then, if something happens that's really important, I make sure I get a few saves in afterwards (ok, I do this rarely, but you can try it anywhoo). Just give someone some copper, buy something from a vendor, whatever you can find to force a save. It's probably not worth your time (how often do the servers crash?), but if it'll amuse you at least, go ahead. Happy Bashing! =) - P

I just finished this today. I was able to do it solo at 52. (204 wis though)

I handed in the harness of control to the broodmother. As soon as I did this, invis droped, and I got attacked by the wurms near her. This is no big deal, I just ran to the giant fort. You will outrun the wurms and they will not follow that far. I got to the fort and sat on the left side (as you look at it) invis. A few min later (enought time for me to cast chloro and med) Broodmama showed up. Targeted FF and pulled with Starfire. Got him to follow UNSNARED past the zone to EW, following tight to the wall. On the far side of the zone path, snared, doted, immolated, ro, root and med'ed. Was down to 2m at this point. From here on out I root/dot'ed. I am not sure if I pulled him far enough away or what, but Broodmother never came to his side. I had to re-snare only once. Best advice, pull very far from fort, then snare. Root dot if you are doing this solo. And take your time. You can't do this if you get adds, and if you zone, he WILL REPOP.

*UPDATE* I have done this quest about more times, helping guildmates and such. So far, sticking to this method, I have not seen a single death, or broodmother pet. Having ES Vamps helps alot since it is a mana free dot. FF has a ton of HP, but if you are patient, and stay close to the walls, you should have no problems at all.
Leggins
# Jun 13 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Good
I did this quest last night and it seems that everyone seems to say "THIS IS HOW IT IS...I DID IT AND IT GOES THE SAME WAY FOR EVERYONE EVERY TIME." I am here to say this is how it went for me when I did the quest.

I got the Harness of Control from Vores, and went near the river to bring up track to see if the Broodmother was up. As it happened, she was, however, some UBER guild was doing the 10th ring quest and shouted to the zone that anyone who did not want to get slammed by 200+ giants to get out of the zone. I figured why chance it...and lose my leggins, Im out of here. I came back after the quest was confirmed to be over and all the normal mobs in the zone re-popped (including the Broodmother). I refreshed SoW, Invised up, medded to full, and headed into the first cavern to the left which twisted around a bit. I got behind the Broodmother and turned the harness into her. it gave some message like "her neck snapps and she begins heading out of the cave". I re-invised up and followed running along side and near her. (BTW I highly reccomend having someone do this quest with you, stand near the Frost giant camp to ensure that no one steals, or attacks Fergul before the Broodmother gets there) I took a chance and decided to /shout to the zone that I was doing a Quest and to please leave both the Broodmother and the two giants alone until I was finished. It took about 2 to 3 minuites for the Broodmother to get to the camp. She first goes up to the entrance to the camp as if she was going in, then circles back and attacks Grakkal. At this point Fergul despawned. I turned tward the zone, and he popped running away from me. Due to seeing many posts here saying that get Fergul away from the action before aggroing I waited a bit before actually attempting to snare. Snare held immediately (54 Druid) and then I kited him to the zone wall to avoid any adds. I rooted, and casted Winged Death and meditated. Im assuming after the Broodmother killed Grakkal, she made her way over to Fergul because I saw her come up and stop by his side. I then knew that the "pet" stories are true. I was almost afraid to reaply Winged Death on Fergul for fear that the BM would come up and attack (like normal pets do). I casted, and she remained next to him. I continued rooting and Dotting until he was half dead, and then I ended up not getting root fast enough and he came within Melee range. This is where all hell broke loose, the instant i was in Fergul's range, the BM attacked and assisted Fergul. I gained some distance between the two NPC's and re-rooted Fergul. The broodmother stopped by him and again acted like an unaggro pet. Eventually I killed Fergul, the Broodmother then Depopped, and looted my leggings. After this ordeal, I petitioned a GM and mentioned what had happened, he said to please do /bug and report my findings, and that he was happy to see that I was able to get my leggins even with the reported trouble I had. I /bug and hopefully all will see the patch repairing the problem in the near future. I went as far as to tell the GM I would duplicate it for him if he wanted, but he said its not necessary.

This can be done solo as I am a 54 Druid with 171 wis, just use Form of the Howler and med while he is rooted and dotted. I was oom when he was 10% health left, so memmed Creeping Crud to keep him from regenerating HP back while I med and actually found that it took about 3 casts of that spell to drop him.

I've been a victim of the bugs in this quest as well. A friend who has done this before helped me collect the items and turn them into the right folks to get the harness of control. When we found the broodmother up one day (in the shardwurm caves where she belongs), we ran in and I gave her the harness. Then we both invised and ran up to the fort and waited for her to catch up. When she did, all went as it should, she engaged the other giant and Fergul despawned, respawned, and took off running. We gave chase and caught up to him on the plateau just above the pass to Great Divide. His health was down around the r in Fergul when he vanished. Poof. Gone. We were not anywhere close enough to the zone that he could be said to have escaped. He was no longer in either of our target windows, so it's not that he gated or ghosted. There was definitely no corpse. We ran back to the fort but he was no where to be seen. We watched a little longer, but nothing happened other than the yellow broodmother becoming the pet of a green giant.

I petitioned and was told to email the head GM. I emailed her and after two weeks with no reply I tried writing to the eqmail address. They wrote back a few days later and said they'd tested it and it was working fine and referred me back to my GM. When she finally replied she said that she could find in their logs that I had owned the harness of control, but she found no reference to me giving it to the broodmother.

The moral of the story? It's buggy and don't expect any help from the powers that be if you don't get your reward. They're convinced that this quest is working perfectly, but it's not :(

Tonight I finally got to Vores, and got my harness. Happems mother was up at time so I run back, give her harness. I have a 55 Wiz at fort waiting for me. I am a 50 ranger. She heads to fort, gets there, and walks away. She does NOT engage any giants. I get upset, and a few moments later I see the 2 I want run out of the fort, heading to the Mother. I snare the one I need, wiz drops it, I get meat. NO LEGS. I have heard of 2 other failed attemps tonight also after I voiced my concerns in a shout. Can she only do it once, am I missing something? Please help.

Ok I had been wanting these legs for couple months and finally hit lvl 54. Well a friend of mine and guildie lvl 52 ranger(minian) told me he would help me do the quest. So we start in thurg and go after the drakkel dire wolves to get the blood wolf to spawn. At first we just kill the wolves one by one. But after a while a druid tell me to just train like 12 of them at a time and its much quicker. So we started training wolves, giants, basically anything that lached on to the guards. So after around 40 wolves or so I see a message in ooc to come to loc neg 2300 and post 2500 or something. I go there and nothing and then find out he ment both negatives. So we continue training wolves and after around our 60th wolve my friend minian sees a blood on track. So I go wait at druid spires and the he brings the wolf. Killed it pretty easy and just rooted or snared the adds. So now we are off to cc and about 2hrs in the quest. We get to cc and think we can just go down to the queen and kill her. So we head down get to dwarf city and take a med break when we see someone say something acid near zone. So we go up and loot it. Well about this time IM getting 5 tells for rezes and kind of pissed at all these people when we see herbalist spawns. So minian levs both of us and we go to kill him. We get about 5 adds and hes fine but im dieing. So I jump all the way down the pit and try to run to city when I die. He dies shortly after and I lose lvl 54. hah Well I got a port back and went and rezed him and then he invis me and I went and got corpse. So we go to the broodmother who was up 1 hr ago. Well there seems to be a group that decided to KILL the broodmother thinking she dropped good loot /em sigh. So we decide we have done enough tonight. So the next nite I log back in and call to see if the brood is camped. Yup she is so I tell the person to tell me when she spawns so I can start counting 10hrs. Well I go back to kc and get lvl 54 back and the person tells me he is giving up on camp and logging. So I get my ranger friend and we go back. We call camp check and the broodmother isnt camped so I call her. We start pulling wurms out and then decide to go in. We see a monk run past us while running in and sit where the broodmother spawns. I ask her what shes doing and she says camping broodmother. I say WTF I got her cmaped and we get in this huge argument. Anyways she realizes she cant finish the quest alone and leaves BAH. So we sit down and begin medding. I get info its going to be 2 hrs till broodmother spawns and decide ill wait it out. Then all of a sudden this big wurm spawns while medding on top of me. Im waiting for it to argo on us but doesnt. WIERD ... so I target it and see Its the broodmother and start shouting woot . So my group runs to the fort and I give her the harness. She takes her time to get there(bout 3 mins) and I follow her. She gets there and attacks one of the giants. We run after the other. I cast root (Resist). So I think im screwed but it argos on me Yayyyy!!! So the ranger takes argo off of me and me the other cleric and shaman just root the adds and heal the ranger. BOOM giant goes down. I loot legs and im real happy now. Great legs and the quest I would rate pretty easy if you got patience.

-Thanks for all the help Minian and the other shaman cleric
