Someone just linked this, and the cast time is now instant. Not 3 seconds, not one second, but instant. Wow. I smell fun with kiting. Wonder when they changed it? That's wild though. I had to check three times to make sure I wasn't crazier than I think I am.
Cast times listed on items are bugged All clickies now list cast times as "instant" , but in fact still cast their normal cast times.
Patch soon should fix.

Hi everyone just wanted you to know Im a lvl 64 shaman and did this quest accidentally :). I found that upon turn in of the strong raptor gut and the strong wooden branch you get a walrus, Also upon handing Ami the "Chapter P" you also get another "Walrus", and upon the final turnin to "Niltam the Chef" yet again another spawn of that damn walrus :). I hope this helps..And the walrus Cakewalk at 64 ..He thought he was meleeing me,,,Really he was tickling me :)..Gl on the hunting
64 (Oracle) Shaman (GREY BEAR CLAN) "Destiny is not a matter of chance but of choice"
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but you wont find a easier mid-lvl Warrior Wrist item to get hold of with minimal group work, that + hero bracer = happy bunny! The clicky is just a bonus, reminds me of the days I used to use a Velium Battle Axe (nostalgia!)
Rangers take a look at these - they have great stats and passable ac and they dont weight much . Since we can no longer disrupt with kick and have to hope our melee damage disrupts these are great .. mob CH casting time 4 or 5 secs ??? velium shards 12 dd ( woot :) ) but an autodisrupt . It can save you specially when you are SA -- a right click and you dont have to fight the big bad guy all over again . As to getting it - info here is correct but it misses a few ranger specific things .. tigerraptors are animals :) ie dead . holgresh ( flying monkeys) are nasty ,,, get as much MR as you can or get a tank to help ya :) - tigerraptors drop ..... tigerraptor pelts ( shocker huh ) and these are used for the much maligned (correctly) vleious ranger armour ... BUT some of it is good when you get to higher levels !! ..
Look at the dex on some items -- cloak boots etc .. nice to have in a rucksack when bow kiting or raiding as an archer :)

Bards can use this item while running, or even fighting. You can melee as you right click this. It is very useful for interupting mobs that are casting, as it has been known to interupt them.
That would be because bards can SING while running or fighting so lets look at this for a bard: 3.0 sec cast time is the same as all bard songs, must be at or almost at melee range, does 12dd... that's not even as good as broscos boastful bellows even if bellows does take a song slot. Now bards may be able to use clicky items like this while moving but they can NOT sing while using these items, or at the least must give up one song from their "twist" to use a 3second cast clicky like this.
Now let's just say for the sake of argument that you got this for your level 12 bard and we can evaluate the usefulness of it. At level 12 you could sing nothing but the above mentioned bellows which has a lower resist rate than this ice DD and do more damage than you could with the bracer and the argument for it "possibly" interrupting casting can be made for bellows as well. Oh but you can twist more than one song? great, find 3 songs that each do something more useful to your group than 4DPS (12dd/3sec cast) and you will find this effect useless for a bard if you doubt that then ask any decent bard why he doesn't just chain sing bellows all day :)
Still, not a bad AC/stat item for a bard to own if you can't come up with better bracers but the "point" that bards can use the effect is a joke to any self respecting bard, I'd wonder how much you spent on eBay if you were a bard in my group clicking your ice forged shackles!
I think that if this effect procs on a mob during a fight, that would be cool, On the count of I have a venomous axe of the velium brood, 11/23 proc or: Poisonous Chill. Which proclaims at lvl 35 for a non-melee 85 points of damage. So with a veno axe, these on my wrists and my epic in secondary, I think that would be a good proc combo during a fight, The stats and 10AC really helps out. I know velium shards only proc for like 6dd, but hey thats 6 more damage that may help me survive =P
It depends Coldain velium procs at 1, regular at 25. BUT the label on these babies says Triggered so it could go either way. Ill post an answer when i get mine.

Us Monks really get a big bite in the *** when it comes to effect items... Also as of this date if u do a search for ANY items with the effect: Invigorate that a Monk can use only 4 come up! This pisses the ******* hell outta me!!! Is a very nice item in all other ways though =P
It's a chain class item. monks are a leather class. get over it.
as far as "only four invigorating BPs", how many did you want? warriors and rogues only have five, stupid. Kunark Drop armor(which monks and iksar were oddly excluded from) has only three Invig BPs, all of which drop off of Trakanon. One is for rogues, one is for warriors, and the last one is the only invigorating Bard BP in game.
Moving on to Velious, there were four primary armor lines to get. Thurgadin, Skyshrine, Kael, and Plane of Growth. All four have similar item effects. The first three lines involve "quests"(so any chain, plate, leather or silk drop can be used for any of those classes). The PoG armor simply drops. For rangers and druids, "PoG" armor drops in Hate.
All four lines for monks, warriors, shadowknights, and rogues have "Invigorate" as their effect. In addition, there are two all/all Invigorate items, and a Priest weapon that procs Invigorate. and that's it. So to claim that monks are in any way gypped by this standard is utter Bullsh*t.
Rangers and Pallies are the classes that got gypped by Velious BP effects. Maybe just rangers. Pallies got their level 60 pure ac buff. Rangers got their level 50 easy-to-get AC/ds buff. Of course, as a hybrid they would be unable to med while chain-casting Invigorate, soo...
anyways. your velious bps have invigorate and you can put it to good use. now quit yer belly-achin.
You do of course realize that the range on Velium Shards is shorter than most mob aggro radii, don't you? ... you'd be better off aggro-pulling, than using the proc on this item.
I'm all for constructive criticism, but complaining just to complain is ... odd.
Continuing with the statement above, it is NOT a pulling item. The range on this effect is almost point blank from what I've seen. And the spell does such a small amount of damage anyway that you'd rather be hitting the mob, at just about any level... Good bracer, though... like the stats...
I just completed this quest twice in the same day. Once for my rogue friend, and once for my ranger friend. It was entertaining. I read about the quest and it seemed obvious that a 51 wizzy could handle the load all by his lonesome. Raptors were a cinch, 5-7 kills each visit before Strong Raptor Gut dropped. Holgreshes was more like 15-20 kills for each Strong Wooden Branch. It was an all day affair, but I got the job done. Hand the items to the fisherman that refers to a curse, and the walrus pops right on top of me. So I ice comet the crap out of it like I did to everything else I had to fight along the way. Then my friends (on 2 separate occasions, obviously) hail the agitated gnoll and said the magic words. All in all, worth the effort... Holgreshes can be mean if you're a wizzy trying to solo them... something about having 3 of them on you at once that didn't appeal to me... hehe, don't have to die more than once to realize the need for guerilla tactics... even with all resists 100+...
I got the Shackles just because of the proc ... being a Warrior on a PvP server makes these almost uber for me ... i can hide and keep right clicking these babys
I went to the raptors ledge by SS zone with an SK friend who already had done the quest and a druid friend, and we got the guts after maybe 4-5 mobs. The holgresh's were a pain (don't know if theyve fixed the bug with holgresh's dding from under the cave) but i got the stick with help from a few friends after maybe 7 mobs at the most. All in all the quest probably took me 2 hours max.
Is it possible to MQ this at Level 7? My main has one and was wondering if when you kill the walrus someone else can say "i want the magic" to that gnoll and they get the piece and go from there, any info would be helpful!

Don't bother using the clicky proc. The casting time is like 2 seconds for a whopping 18DD. So if you had delusions of being able to kite your mobs around with this proc; keep on dreaming. The proc isn't worth justifying the sole reason to get this bracer.
However, the stats are still nice. And if anything, get this bracer for the stats alone and forget using the clicky proc.
Well, the true value of this proc isn't the whopping 12dd. It's that it interrupts casting. Well worth if your a low hitpoint, low resist ranger like myself. A clicky casting interrupt, hmmmm....what would that have been useful on....HOLGRESH! shocker.

These bracers are really good for tanks in my opinion, but large races should be able to use them, :( i know from experience, ive petitioned several times to get them to change it but no change, lol
I pulled a few Holgresh just outside the Zone to Kael. Dropped stick after about 4th one. No need to go to cave and die :( Watch out for those panthers ))) Got the raptor guts at the SS side. Just off to the left side of the tunnel to SS is a ridge that 3-4 raptor spawn. all green to me at 60 ) easy to solo. It took about 45 min til the guts dropped.
Being a barbarian warrior wearing a pair of Hero Bracers: I am gonna grumble about not being able to use these, but at the same time I can be a hero whereas the wee little people only get to wear handcuffs :P
When I first started this quest me and a friend (Paladin) who also needed these headed over to Wakening and we fear kited some raptors, a Wizard friend also came and the kills were like fighting bats. The guts droped fairly quickly but when we went to the Holgreshes...it was hell. We were there till early early morning and then we got one. Then very soon after, we got another, much to everyones suprise. I think these are very worth it tho.

Contrary to other posts, you do not have to wander into the cave of Holgresh death (which is still bugged as of April 4, 2002). I pulled a caster from the area right outside the dragon ring (wiz/druid port) and it droped the pole. This is after having MULTIPLE party members killed due to the bug at the cave enterence (targeted mobs cannot be meleed - only spells will land - says you are out of range).
Good luck! I'm off to find me an enraged walrus!
Paindoom Lionsbane Ranger of 45 Seasons Solusek Ro server
PS. Pulled a second Holgresh near the dragon ring and a second drop. My adice - stay clear of the cave!
Killed the holgreshes in the cave by pulling them from their static spawn point to a place in the tunnel (not far from the spawn point) to fight. Used this method after I tried pulling them out of the cave and had one beating on me from under the world :( Had to zone to Skyshrine to clear the aggro.
