Actually, this belt is good for a pally, Sk, Ranger, or a Beast Lord. Why? Because of the Ac, This Wis and Int (Ment for the hyberds hehe) plus the Haste, which helps in battle... I don't see many Casters wearing these, but I do see Beast Lords, Pally's, and Sk's... YOu may see a ranger wearing one every now and then, but that is it...
I think that all this, casters need this more, melee needs this more, is all misleading. It is true, a melee can find quite some use in this, and a caster could also use somewhat, but a melee should be given the first chance on thiss roll. The reasons - melees melee a lot more than casters, some casters dont even have weapons and if you think about it, what if a FT1 4str 10int 10 wis 10 to all resists item dropped (droppable). Should a war be able to roll on that, i don't think so. I am a war of the 51st season and I certantly wouldn't roll on that ft1 item, and i think a caster shouldn't be alowed to get this unless of corse the raid was designed to get his alt the item or all the melee and hybrids have better.

we just left arena with 3 of these ... yes 3 and they all dropped in about an hour, ive never even seen one in all the kael raids ive been on
we were camping left side and ran out of mobs so i started pulling the protectors from inside the building, after spliting and killing the 3 zeks, i went into the rooms inside and pulled the clerics, im pretty sure they dropped the belt twice, but it may have been the adjutants we killed in between, sorry, we were going pretty fast and i didnt write down the mobs that dropped, but the all dropped after we began killing the clerics
Just noticed that it's posted as a common drop? I've been hunting in Kael for weeks on end. Doing arena raids, plaza groups and plate house raids. I've attained myself a full set of Champions armor and maxed out all my factions, and not once have I seen this belt drop? And to those of you wondering, this belt has 21% haste according to Magelo.
Greed is the root of ALL evil. The casters that want this only want to sell it and are using the idea of the int/wis on this belt are only using it to get a roll on this. A fair and wise raid master would never let a caster roll on this unless all the melees already had something better. And realize all ya idiotic casters out there who think yer the only thing that thinks, hybrids like SKs, Pallies, Rangers, Bards, Shaman, Beastlords, etc. need Haste, Stamina, & either int or wis, so what classes do you think this item is built for? Your idiotic Necro who like to be the tank as well, or your Paladin who tanks AND heals yer *** when yer stupid enough to draw aggro, cause they don't have a fast enough dps to keep up with yer nuking ninny? If ya wanna die on a raid be my guest and loot this, but if ya wanna live, let yer other broke *** as usual hybrids take this and actually be able to do their jobs properly.
While I agree that melees should have first shot at this, if its a guild event, or the raid leader has specified NBG, I'd love to have one of these for my cleric. Yes, that's right, cleric.
My cleric is close to getting his summoned hammer, and then a few levels later his hammer pet. Throw in the new yaulp that adds to mana regen, plus a ton to str, and attack, and I have as much mana regenning standing as sitting, and a decent shot at hitting. Add the fact that we can now bash, and that my AC is nearly 1000, fully buffed (even with defense that is slightly low, due to too much sitting and healing in my youth), and 2500hp, and I can tank/nuke/dot solo against undead, and tank/nuke against many other blue mobs.
It used to be true that clercis just sat on their butts and healed/buffed, but not any more. I actually can do some soloing now, and contribute to the melee output of a group :)
If you're not familiar with the summoned cleric hammer, it has awesome stats and ratio, and procs a 150hp dd, with a HIGH frequency. Toss on a boon of the garou, chanter haste, shammy buffs, and a nice haste item like this belt, and a cleric is a fighting machine.
Also, Note that I'm not saying that a cleric should melee in all situations. obviously, in a major mob encounter, all the clerics will be needed for the CH rotation, or healing the other raid members. However, in grind groups, and even on some raids, I don't always have to heal all that frequently. I've even been on a few hate raids, where the tanks in my group were taking no damage for several hours, while we rounded up the yard trash. Why not jump in and have some fun, instead of playing gems to while away the hours in boredom.
Per testing posted on the Cleric board (eqclerics.gameglow.com), haste has zero effect on proc rates (in terms of procs per minute). So haste items will increase your weapon melee DPS, but your proc DPS will remain unchanged. As procs makes up the majority of clerical DPS, you're not getting much 'bang for the buck' with haste items (or spells).
Bottom line: don't bother with haste items as a cleric - there are non-haste belts with much better stats.
Hate to say anything bad about EQ Clerics board, but this is untrue... As a ranger, Ihave both my self-buff procs, and with my epic, I have a 40% perm haste... I proc just as often, PER SWING, as I did without haste.... I proc about avery 6th swing with call of sky.. same as i was before I got swifty. Procs are not calculated on a timed basis.. .they are randomly checked on each swing. So, you swing more often, you proc more often. Most parsers used to check DPS don't even calculate the procs... It is dificult to check DPS based on procs. But if you count how many swings between your procs, you will see that the proc DPS does indeed go up with haste. If yo uonly proc twice per fight, you may still only proc twice per fight... but that is most likely because the mob is dead sooner...
Regardless of this, I can't see a caster or cleric getting this item on a guild raid. But on a pickup raid, I feel everyone who CAN use the item gets a chance to roll on the item.
Haste has no effect on procs per minute. This has been tested extensively on multiple class boards. You can check the Steel Warrior and get the same answer as from EQ Clerics.
Your right, dex effects weapon procs, but tell me, how will it proc if your not using it? Yes you must swing for proc. My shammy's spear only procs when i swing, hit or miss is no factor but takeing a shot at the mob is required.

I was using a two tined corpse pitchfork and was pushed outta range and the "get closer" spam was going crazy in my chat window, and my Nife spell goes off, not even swinging at the mob or nothing.
------------------------ Veteran Icecaller has been slain by a friend! A friend tells channel:1, 'Silvery Belt of Contention' --------------------------
Hail, I have a general question on haste items and decided to ask it here because the haste section seems to receive little traffic. Do particular haste items actually have different set haste values, or is it as the haste section states; that the value of haste experienced is dependent upon the wearers level. Also do all haste items actually provide the same amount of haste at the same level. If it is the same percent value, and is dependant upon the wearers level, is it a percent of the wearers basic stats, which are race and class dependant. I ask these questions because I am attempting to ascertain as to whether this is all a mute point and we are talking about a miniscule amount of differance between the haste values of different items, which is simply a percent of base stats which is level dependant. I can not find this information anywhere. If any or all of this is true, I am going to forget about these minicule variations and just concentrate on getting a haste item with other good stats. Any guidance towards imperical data on this will be greatly appreciated.
Well they certainly named this one correctly... Contention indeed! Enough of the useless arguments (great post by the way Merkutio), can someone who has recently obtained this item by actually participating in the death of the mob that drops it please illumine the rest of us with your wisdom and knowledge?
If that information has been given somewhere in these posts, it has since been buried in so much garbage that it is beyond my endurance to locate. Any pertinent info would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, here's some more of my 2cp worth, and well, it pretty much applies to all items/zones/mobs and the related discussions on this resource page. First off, all the "my class is better than your class, we do more dmg... blah blah" is really ******* innane, grow up and post class related **** on the class specific discussions. Myself, I really don't care to hear it, I've learned enough about classes since I started this game in May of 1999, which, I imagine is long before many of you who think you know who should roll on anything and which class is the "Uberest." I have, myself, as well as many friends and guildmates, resorted to Allakhazam'z for information ever since it was but a fledgling site and had nowhere near the amount of knowledge stored here for others to peruse and learn from. One of the main purposes of this great site was to help others find useful information that pertained to the pursuit of finding items, weaknesses of mobs, quest solutions, etc and etc. More and more though, it has become tougher and tougher to find pertinent information (for you that don't know, that means information relating to the topic.) WHY, one asks? Bbecause we have forty million people squabbling like little kintergardeners on every item, every mob, every zone, about which class has better dps, which solos better, what their massive ******** backstab on Uber_mob_01 is, and we really don't care, STFU. Please, quit the ******* stupidity, and make room for the posts that are going to help others. Where does it drop? What camp were you at, and what was the mobs name, approx level, etc... would be a great help to those of us. Myself, I have been all over norrath, but have never killed a mob to get the SBoC. I want to find out what was killed to get it, but once again, it's all the same ******** "casters shouldn't roll, only melee..." and "you're stupidass caster rolled on it?" type of posts. YET, not one, not a single goddamn post about what mob was killed at what camp (Manor, Bank, Arena, maybe a Named?)or anything ACTUALLY RELATED to the belt. Yes, this post is probably going to get a bad rating. BUT, the people who have put up with all the **** like I have over the past couple years are going to probably agree. The filters don't help, because they don't filter out non-useful information, they just work by rating, so I leave my filter on the never filter setting. As such, the really informative posts never get a good rating. Ladies and Gentlemen that read this, please, if you have information on what actually dropped the belt, can you please post some information on it, as I try to post what I know about mobs that I have personally taken down. BTW, This is the True Merkutio, often I let my friends post under my name when looking up information, these are my true feelings. I'm going to stop from wasting more server space now, hopefully some useful information is posted on other items I've been looking for lately.
Demmin - 51 SK, Inny server (ret.) Decimus Merideus - 47 Woodelf Warrior Inny server(ret.) Daccor 60 Shaman - Inny server (ret.) Merkutio X Monk - Inny server (ret.)
I will say this after reading all these posts. Yes this item makes a nice Melee item. However if your on a raid or grouped with folks and this drops everyone should have a chance at it not just melee. After all if it wasn't for those casters you melee **** would be dead. And how much did that cleric spend on gems to keep you buffed doesn't he deserve a chance to recoup some of his plat whether he uses it or not??.... Flame away if you will but so you know I'm a melee... That being said I've been in Keal for some time still waiting my turn to get in a group and a chance to get one.

Ye are all a bunch of idiots. Verant made this all/all for a reason. If they wanted it for melees only they would have restricted the class to melees only. All this childish bickering is pointless, and wastes space that is reserved for USEFUL information, like what mobs drop it, where they can be found, helpful info on the pull and fight, etc etc. Please quit wasting everyone else's time with this inane squabbling.
I'll grant this was posted a few months back. However, I'd like to point out that the haste on this belt is 21%. The SCHW he traded for it has haste of 22%. Granted that doesn't mean he may not have needed the other stats, but it is my opinion that he lost out on this trade.

A caster who buys this belt is not very smart. If you want haste, get a Tolopumj's Robe for 4 to 5k. If you want lots of int, Fetid Flesh Belt, sells for around 10k. The Fetid Flesh belt has 8 int and 75 mana. It beats most robes that you can buy. I have both the robe and the fetid flesh belt and they are awesome together. If I can ever save up enough to get this, it goes to my SK, someone who can actually use it. Casters who wear this should sell it and get real caster gear, not tank gear!

Posted:Jul 04 2002 at 11:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) To be honest this belt isn't ment fer casters..Casters aren't really well at meleeing..
Regardless of whom you THINK it was MEANT for. It is a good belt for WIS casters because there are very few belts with WIS that are obtainable after say... level 30 or before 50. Looking for a Crystalline BElt upgarde at lvl 38 and the pickins are slim
A decent belt, that's for sure. I recently got rid of my Dragonborn sash, even though it have slightly more haste (24 vs 21). But at my level, I appreciate the fact that it has 10ac 4sta, as opposed to only 2ac (like on the dragonborn).. so in my opinion the great stats compensates for the lesser haste. Another factor is that not everyone has one, and although that doesn't make a huge difference, it does give me the feeling that my belt is slightly unique, not like everyone else's FBSS.
As far as haste goes, there are two ways to measure the haste effect. One, the most common, is the percentage is an INCREASE in overall damage output. And the other way, is the percentage is removed from the delay (17%). That's why you have wars going on that FBSS is 17% and 21%.. well both are true, it's just the way you calculate it.
Considering the rarity, extra stats and WEIGHTLESSNESS, this is an awesome item to have in belt slot. Worth approx. 15k on Drinal server at this present time.
