Does it proc when equipped in range slot during combat or does it have to be in primary?

Please give us an answer....I dont care if any other clas shoud get to use it, or stupid Sony, I just want to know when my baby 13 Sk on FV can expect it to proc...it *really* wants to proc now, frequently but it tells me *sniffle* i am too low for it to proc for me =(
I lucked out - some person listed it in bazaar for 20 plat...they must have meant to price it at 200 as the pthers there were in that range. {and for those who *dont* know, Firiona Vie is the server where most everything is not no-drop except epics!}

You don't have to be on giant faction to do this...just get a group together to smoke this guy. My groups have fought him twice...he's had the spear both times. Unfortunately, no sk's (including mine) were there to grab it...UGH...she's perma-parked there till she gets one now =)

Didnt even know about this thing or the quest til our last Kael raid. We toasted this guy easily. No other SK on the raid wanted it so I decided "what the hell" I'll loot it.
Not to shabby of a weapon. Maxed my piercing with it yesterday. Fun weapon actually

47 ogre sk quested it finished it today great spear looks like bards sionachie partisan one thing regarding Clrakk Blackfist he can have Placeholders i'm on prexus and keal is raided alot but beware hehe he might not be up and you could be looking for hours the respawn time on him is 2 hours btw did the quest amiable (just)

Okay, I've never done anything in for or against the dwarf or giant factions. All I've ever done in Velious is ToFS. So my questions are: would my faction be good enough to do this quest? Or would I have to work on it. I am an Iksar Shadowknight 46th lvl, and of course worship Cazic. If I do need to work on faction, what would I need to kill? Thanks in advance for the info.

Just a thought. But does anyone think its weird that the Dark Spear of "Venom" procs a sickness spell?

Can anyone tell me at what level this item procs? I have been using it for a few levs and nothing yet. Before you start saying a low lev can't get it read on, if you regurlarly kill dorfs and have a low lev SK on your account you should do what I did..
I had my ranger in EW and was killing dorfs when we get Deaen up.. kill him and he has a leg on him. I loot it without anyone knowing what it was for (was a few months ago) and finish the quest. I start drooling when I get the spear and then I see SK only!! hehe was I pissed! anyway.. another no drop item gobbled up by the destroy button.
Since then I camped my lev 10 SK at the orc fort 'just in case', after a few days, got deaen again and was damn lucky he had leg again! Next part was just raise faction with my inkie, so gave him a load of heads to turn in and voila! New spear for my SK :)
Best thing is the SK is high in faction with giants but still only dubious with dorfs, I suppose not having killed any dorfs himself helped. He is lev 26 now and this weapon kicks ***! It's so good I just can't be bothered to train other weapon skills, which I will probably regret later on.. will probably have to do 1HS some time.
Since then I have killed deaen about 5 times, 4 hands or head and only 1 more leg. Unfortunately no SK responded to the shout for the prize :(
Btw, is the Mask of Malediction used by anyone?!

I did the quest with my shadowknight and was able to do it with amiable faction (if any need to know). The other nice thing I noticed is the spear goes in the range slot. I love it its a great weapon only part I wish it didnt have a wgt of 7 but my SK is a ogre so he can live with it. Good Luck All hope you get one too.

JUST GOT THIS AT 43!!!
ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST SELF-ACQUIRED SK WEAPS IN THE GAME! Deaen was yellow to me but fear-kited down easily with the help of 2 friends. Didn't resist once! Try and get a MoSS with 3 ppl and a lil faction....

K.. yeah I want one of these.. and I'll get one AFTER I finish with my coldain ring quests :P..
but as I recall piercing caped out at 135 or so didnt it? How could a nice damage delay make up for a low skill?? wouldnt you miss more just cuz you dont have the skill to fight? I think I would rather use a MOSS with my current 200 1hb skill than this in a real fight.. but then.. I am wearing a guardian robe atm :P I just wish they hadnt capped piercing and archery soo low for us

I don't know where you guys get your information, but my SK is level 55 at the moment, and has the following skills:
2HS: 215
1HS: 213 (I know it's not maxed yet, I'll get it to 215 before I ding though)
2HB: 215
1HB: 215
Piercing: 215
I have read that our caps for all these skills at 60 is 225, and I think that's right, but I know that at 40 and up to 50 we have a cap on all these of 200, and starting at 51 we can get 3 more per level, so I don't know whether it really stops at 225 or not. I'm hoping I can get 230 :)
Anyway, Just thought this might help some of you.
Also, I looted this in Kael in the Castle room while killing with my guild for factions. I didn't even know this weapon existed until I looted it. Was a very pleasant suprise. Way better than my stalag terror spine spear I'd been using for 30 levels!
Keep those skills up, you never know what weapon will land in your lap!

About a low peicing cap for Shadowknights. But of course i've been under the impression that all weapon skills either cap the same for a class. Or dont raise at all, could be wrong about that tho. IF piercing does cap at 135 for Sk's then your right, this weapon is crap.

Dunno about you guys but my (level 36) SK's Piercing skill is currently capped at 185 and I expect it to go up further. Ever since I grabbed my Terrorstalag Spine Spear off the Terror Carver in CC, I've been pretty much using that as my weapon of choice. EQ Casters Realm list the max as 210, but they've been wrong before.

Archery LOL.. 75.. wow.. that was useful.. thnx verant :P... Was talking to a friend of mine.. and he was saying piercing is 200 soft cap 225 final cap.. Like the other weap class's...
of course.. When I heard of the low cap I was level 8. and stopped working it up once it hit 135.. considering I thought it was capped..
So either it was capped low.. and Verant Raised the cap..

That is because archery, for the most part, is used strictly as a tool for pulling by every class that can use them other than Rangers who will eventually find great use out of them. SK's can just pull with spells and then have other tools at their disposal that a bow is a nearly useless or hardly worth swapping out to try and get damage from it.

Forget the proc, its att/del is almost as good as the Noc. with the proc it makes it just as good. Just got this sweet spear, and it is BADASS!!!!!!

19/29 10int...or a 17/27 piercer with 5int 10mana (so 6int) and a proc and save magic. nice item. Look at the brighter side, and its easy ot get, as opposed to large scale raids to get a MoSS.

a SMART shadow knight uses piercing (not to mention one with a sense of originality)... with the new velious weaps, if yer waiting for 1hb to save yer hide ya best hit up and SK with the Etched Velium War Lance in the arena where he shove yer MoSS right up where things come out. isn't it ridiculous how masses stick to the same weaps regardless of new info? then post their ignorance for the world to see?

That's right. I am a level 32 Sk and never group without memming disease cloud. Really pisses them off. All you casters should be thankful for it. This proc would be cool because it would free up a spell slot. No worrying about casting either.

...which is exactly why rogues can't use it.
It's been stated that rogues wont get piercers (mainhand at least) with damage exceeding 15, because the backstabs would be too high.
Rogues can already land double backstabs for 1106/1106 (2212 total damage) with a 15 dmg weapon.

Sicken is the level 5 shaman disease spell. It's not much of a DOT, it only does around 8 DD when it hits, and only one or two damage per tick.

Every shadow knight knows that disease cloud is their best taunt. I imagine this spear has a similar effect as that no matter what level the disease is. Any mob with repeated applications of disease goes crazy on you.
