I bought an MotQ recently for 200pp at lvl 14. From the postings here and the recommended average it's difficult to tell whether I got a good price or not. The postings suggest the range is from 400 - 600pp but out in the real world most people sell it for between 250 - 350pp. I'm just wondering because, being only lvl 14, it comprised my entire life savings and I want to check I got a decent price for it since I had to forego upgrading some of my armour to bronze. In any case, I'm quite happy with it given that I'll have the time to practise 2hp. Used to have a Finely Crafted Shan'Tok with maxed out skill in 1hs that hit regularly for 18hps; MotQ misses and does 1hps damage frequently but as my skill increases it occasionally does 29hps damage. In a group that doesn't mind you practising it's ace, and you can always use your spells and tank-ability to supplement. In any case, I know I'll really appreciate it at later lvls.
PS Since this is my first and only character, I took the advice of higher lvl Pallies about keeping skills on an even keel till you can specialise at higher lvls and I'm keeping the Shan'Tok and a Sarnak Ceremonial Sword to practise 1hs and 2hs.
Id like to throw in my 2cp. Im not sure what weapon skills are based on, but Im pretty sure it is Int. My room mate, who plays an SK, got a MoSS at level 45. His skill in 1hb was 5 at the time. All he did was fight the bards in Innothule and Feerrott and he had his skill up to about 60-70 in no time. My advice is find a critter on the same level as the bards (if you don't want the bard faction hit) and just keep killing them. Yes it was boring for him, but it only took about 8 RL hours to get his skill up to do decent damage to a MOB. BTW he also kept a reserve weapon that he was proficient in to do damage while in a group.
My story so far with the MotQ. Im a level 22 pally. I got this baby yesterday by trading the Plat ring from befallen for it. I think theoretically the ring might be worth more but I had been auctioning it for 3 days with no takers and also most times there was someone else auctioning the same item and I was tired of being a merchant. Anyway, of course I suck at 2HP since I have never pierced at all. I put about 10 practices into piercing and used it about a half hour this AM in a Goblin group in Highpass Keep and only got one message "you have improved at piercing (12)". I have about 20 practice point left but dont really want to use them and really dont want to run back to FP now anyway so I guess Im stuck for now. I think this could be a pretty nice weapon when I get the skill up though so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I might get my skill up a little faster but still avoid getting killed or getting my groupmates killed. Take care,
This is a pretty nice weapon... I can only imagine how well it'll do when I max out piercing! (its at about 60-something right now) I hope they release more pally piercers in the Shadows of Luclin expansion...
I'm not a paladin, I am a ranger, however I do like checking out all the other weapons various classes can use. It seems like I may be better informed regarding paladin weapons than some of the people flaming this weapon. In case you don't know several of the nicest paladin weapons are 2HS so you have to give up your shield. Weapons like Fiery Defender, Soulfire, and Fiery Avenger (thats the pally epic, by the way). Just a little info for you.
how can i make my skill in percing go up fast...i am a lvl 30 paladin and my percing is at 9 :( i can't use in a group couse it sucks with my skill at 9 and my lamentation blade works a lot better :) ( right now )
If you want to get your piercing up, find a weapon with a lower delay than 40. If you're using a dagger with 20 delay, that's twice as many swings, thus twice as many chances for your skill to increase. Sure, you might not do much dmg for a while, but if you're in a group with friends, just tell them you want to work on pierce for a while. I'm sure they won't mind.
Find mobs that con low to you but has a lot of hit points to beat on until your skill goes up. Do it solo and see if one of your friends can loan you an int item so your skill goes up faster. Kodiaks in WC worked best for me.

Im sure you know this but for all of you that dont: YOUR WEAPON SKILL WILL NOT INCREASE IF YOU ARE FIGHTING ENEMIES THAT CON GREEN TO YOU. Dont waste your time. Personally i use this weapon in a group and since It's not my job to dish out the damage, it's perfect to practice like this. As long as you are the group damage sponge, you dont have to worry about doing alot of damage. Leave that to the casters & monks.
Oh, and don't use the messenger to practice with, try and find a very fast low damage weapon to do that, you don't wanna kill the critter, and the faster you swing, the faster your skill can increase
This is going to be highly difficult to do, since the paladin skill is limited to ONLY 2 hand piercing, and I don't think there are many of them out there. Are there?
The pally skill is NOT limited to only 2hand piercing. I put 15 practice points into piercing and armed myself with the Harpoon of the depths and shield (for bashing of course) and hit the Sarnak fort of Ill Omen. My piercing skill went from 16 to 80+ in a weekend. Now with a Quickness buff, I can effectively rid the land of all baddies with my MotQ
i am about to buy a messenger of the queen soon, for prob about 400pp. my piercing is (0), im guessing i should put practice points into the piercing skill, question is how much?
Bah dont bother. just put in about all you can till you gotta pay money but still use it. when i bought my MoSS, i was at 0 too. i popped in 10 popints. didnt seem to do anything. but i kept at it for a month and finally now, my 1hb is almost maxxed out so just keep at it
At level 40 I started practicing my piercing skill as a Paladin. I got it up to 40, killing walrus/ulthork/rhino in EW. Then I pumped 40 training pts into it to speed the process up. Moves pretty quickly if you have a fast weapon and/or an enchanter's haste buffs. I personally would NEVER try and learn piercing with a MoQ, cuz it's too slow. When you aren't swingin you aren't improvin...
Oh BTW, my piercing is already 120 and I'm still 40th.
This is a fact that I love. It's the only way i got the weapon, and frankly if i hadnt i would have gotten so fed up with EQ i'd have quit it and switched to AC.
I had one of these, had just bought it. I showed it to a friend in a trade window, cancelled & it fell to the ground despite me having spare backpack slots. I had no general inv slots free.
Needless to say EC crashed & I lost it for good as the GM says I dropped it.
The lvl to obtain this thing is WAAAY off. You do NOT have to be 50 to get this... I got it in my group at 35.. and the avg lvl of the group was 38... not many non twinks have a wurmslayer by then.... it's pretty good for it's level... I like the angry mob look
ive been reading a few of these posts. wow its just a game, you're agruing so much and i bet that if you were talking face to face, someone would be unconscious on the floor right now. i got this weapon because it was unique. i spent all the past 5 levels (18-23) raising my piercing skill and now its maxed out. its worth it. i wouldnt trade it for a 2hs weapon with the exact same stats. its an accomplishment that you can be proud of. every time i join a group with people i dont know, the first thing i hear is "hey what weapon is that!?" i like to show it off. give me a break. calm down its just an item. not worth arguing about
Paladins are not necessarily limited to using "2H" piercing weapons. I personally have and am using to train up my skill a crystal grinder, which is most definitely a 1-handed weapon.
Yes paladins get 2hp. I got this weapon today at lvl 27, since Verant managed to lose my other weapon. AS for the MoQ, it rocks, decent dmg dly ratio. Ok stat bonuses adn it weighs less than a drakkel forged ******* sword, or even a wurmslayer. If i remember correctly. As for the 2hp skill it falls under piercing. The weapon looks awesome, like a mancatcher kinda. Really cool weapon all around. Thanks again Namlinea I owe you one.
Falson Belethil <THe Seventh Star> Paladin of Tuanre, 27th Season Follower of the Light and the Law
I think you missed the point of what he said. He didn't say paladins DIDN'T get 2H piercing, he just said that paladins weren't LIMITED to 2H piercing weapons only.
I have a friend with a lvl 32 pally, and he said the EQ took piercin away from pallies. Can someone comfirm this for me. And if so why would this weapon drop for pallies only then?
This is part of the new 2H Pierce Weapons that Verant introduced with Velious for Paladins. Along the lines of a Lance type weapon. Unfortunately that means any Paladin wanting to use it has a lot of catching up to do.
you know that post makes absolutely no sense. pallys suck more because they have a nice new weapon? woah! thats interesting. im more effective than before with my piercing skill maxed out.
You will find that many ppl are jealous of pallys due to the nice weapons available to paladins. This is indeed unfortunate, however I beleive that ppl should be more jealous of druids, as they're very powerful, perhaps more powerful than any other class. Personally i like this cause a druid is great to have in a group and since they dont take any xtra xp its fine with me that they're so powerful. But staying on the original subject, Paladins can prove to be extremely useful in a group. Gotta go eat now sorry i cant talk anymore.
Er above 40 druids are kind of a waste of a group slot. If you have an open one sure but I would take almost any other class first once cleric and enc are in. Sure druids can solo but that gets very boring. I would never want to spend hours running in circles or rooting dotting and getting my sense heading maxed like most druids I know.
I'm sorry to say that it looks like a pitchfork, but with two points. It's not a awesome looking weapon like Wurmslayer, but aleast its a little bit odd and not just another sword or axe. =)
The down side to this weapon is the lack of skill that I have.. Being a level 30 and used to doing 55-65 dmg per hit on a BIBS, it was hard getting used to .. But now that my skill is going up ( went from 30 - 65 in about 2 days ), I see that this weapon rocks.. Much faster than BIBS ).. I don't know if that price is accurate, but I basically got this for 500pp and it seems to be worth every penny = )..
I bought this weapon for 60pp from someone who needed the money when i was 15th level. At 21st lvl, now i am averaging 40 to 45 dmg per hit. This will probably be the best 60pp i will spend during the time I play this character.
Uh, why would u think that? Verant never has been very good at making things realistic. Oh well, Im more glad that I have this weapon than that it might be unrealistic. Anyway, they usto use spears in two hands, as well as other polearms.
Aye, and I never read of any magicians or wizards during the middle ages who were ever ACTUALLY successful at creating bolts of fire or ice...so I think some artistic license is allowed :)
I see people (other classes beside paladins new piercing skill) piercing using one hand. Why would a weapon in the same class as piercing start to change it's 1 hand style becacuse a Paladin can use it?
First off, Yes....it is Two-Handed Piercing. I had one and was unable to equip my testament of vanear. For this reason, it is almost worthless. Why would anyone buy a 2handed weapon that has a worse dam/delay ratio than the wurmslayer, which is so very easily obtainable? I bought this weapon for 1k thinking I could easily resell it for the 5k range or so. Boy was I wrong...I sold it back to some n00b paladin for 1k. And yes, this does lead to a phat 2hp weapon for us paladins...there is one that drops in Nercopolis that is like 36/45 or something to that effect. And, if you are hell bent on using a piercing weapon, get you a harpoon of the depths to raise that skill. 8/25 2 dex and like 20 hp, and it is 1handed for us pally's still...so you can bash all ya like :)
Not sure why people are so judgemental or mean when making these posts. I also don't understand most of the time the information on the posts is wrong! Confirm what you're saying about these items! I posses both a Wurmslayer and MoQ...the Wurmslayer is 25 dam 40 delay 1hs, the MoQ is 20 dam 40 delay 2hp. There is no 1hp or 2hp break out currently, so just the pierce skill apllies to either....which is a good deal when learning the skill. Verant may address this in the future so check the date on this post! Both are great weapons, the Wurmslayer is slightly better and i use it when primary tank or solo. The MoQ I use every opportunity I can for varation in fighting and roleplaying. I used a dracnid leg tip like 9 dam 26 delay (guess) to practice my skill which is a 197 after 4 levels of intermittent use. There are incredible Western Waste drops 32/40 pally only piercers out there. If you want to get the best do so! The Wurmslayer is good! There are better. The Moq is a solid weapon, to say otherwise demostrates a lake of knowledge of the game. Torke 44th Circle
the dmg delay on wurmslayer is 25/40 the moq is 20/45, the moron who posted it as 25/50 should be shot, wurmslayer is clearly a better weapon, it adds 5 ac along with the str bonus, being a melee class i'd rather have the ac than wis, plus you can use a shield with wurmslayer witch adds more damage and more possible stat bonuses
Uh...more like the SAME damage/delay ratio as Wurmslayer. Wurmslayer (25/50), MoQ (20/40).
Both are 1/2 damage/delay making them roughly equal...except since at higher levels you gain bonus damage PER HIT based on skill the lower delay weapon with the same damage/delay ratio will do MORE damage over time. (don't believe me? Take a look at the Moss Covered Twig and you'll see why they nerfed it). MoQ's only flaw is it's a 2/hander.
First of all Wurmslayer is 25/40, not 25/50. Point #2, Wurm is 1h slash allowing you a variety of shields or shieldlike weapons to use in offhand, MoQ doesn't. If you are going to disagree with someone else's post at least have your facts straight please. IMHO Wurmslayer beats MoQ hands down.
Yah it sucks, about same as a wurm but hey whats that weapon or shield in the other hand do? With the messenger you can stroke your little **** with your left hand thats about it.
Are you certain that a Paladin can use the Harpoon of the Depths & still use a shield? I've heard they can't.
As for this weapon, given it's delay of 40, I'm certain that it gains the bonus that all 2-handed weapons gain when they have a delay of 40 or better... not to mention the nice stat bonuses.
Wish I would've been that Paladin you sold this to, I think it's pretty nice.
If you dont want it, DONT USE IT. They are not making you use it. Pallys still have a line of really good 2hs and 1hs weapons. I don't think they will change any of the old weapons to piercing, but if they do, then you can tell me to shut up. They are trying to help pallys out by giving them this new weapon, and others that are around, not hurt them.
lol - help paly's??? when did verant ever help paly's? this weapon is an insult. drop yr shield to use a 2hand piercer and lose 10 - 25 ac depending on which shield u have and the ability to bash and interupt casting?!?!?!?! wurmslayer: 25/40 1hs & 5 ac, str and magic resist, plus trueheart shield - ac 20 & 5 to str, wis and agi. 2hp for paly's - fookin verant is either a pack of morons or just sadistic bastards.
You are correct. This weapon is not as good as a wurmslayer and trueheart sheild. however you must note that those weapons cost about 10k so the messenger is a respectable choice for lower levels.
um obviously this weapon is lower lvl than the wurm slayer to achieve, so there for people not that gifed to have a ws can have this , people just because there is a better weapon out there...doesnt mean the weapon isnt good, some people dont have ws's in the bank , thank you
OMG pallys suck. First they change the wurmslayer so pallys can use it, now they can use piercing weapons. They also get some of the best weapons in the game not very far to the sk and warriors out there. There swords look better also like the soulfire not far.
Hehe, the funny thing is that Warriors like to think that they rule the melee part of the game. In fact, they probally do, however it must worry them when paladins get something nice. They think that warriors are loosing their title of "The best melee classes in the game". Though Verant does blunder frequently, I do not beleive they would ever let warriors fall behind any other class , at least when it comes to soloing. One tip to you pallys out there: PPL constantly whine that paladins are to powerful. You will have to learn to ignore it, cause there will allways be another whining doofus waiting to diss us pallys.
I bet you whine about how nice many of the Monk-only weapons are too, don't you?
For every nice Paladin weapon, there are ten nice Warrior weapons and four nice Shadowknight weapons.
More than half of the 1h-slash weapons in the game can be used by everyone except the Paladins!
Do you have any clue how hard it is to find a decent 1h-slash weapon for a Paladin in their 20's? And I certainly don't want to buy a Ghoulbane... I want to get it for myself one day.
I agree with ya. Besides that warriors get that beautiful ability called...oh wait for it...duel wield. Oh Damn does that mean that warriors can pick up two decent weapons and beat things into submission? Why yes it does. Plus warriors have that nice ability that gives them Hitpoint bonuses. SO don't cry about weapon usage not being fair you character is more than fair. S for Shadowknights they have dmg spells which Paladns do not have thus making them stronger in the tanking department. Therefore to equal things out Verant decides to allow some weapons and skills to be used by Paladins. You still don't like it then quit your warrior and pick up the armour of faith. Otherwise stop whining and play the game.
Rangers get nicer weapons then Palidans, if you use good duel weild combos. They just dont get as much hype because we need to duel weild them. Percing weapons are being put in the game more because not many of the older high level melee's never used to get anywere near percing weapons. PERCING WEAPONS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK BOYS, GET USED TO IT!
alrighty folks as a pally in possesion of this weapon: the skill can be raised...verant put in paladin piercing as 2h when velious came out which wouldnt work with the wurmslayer hence the change...as for "the plain facts" did you ever stop to think that this might lead to a far more powerful paladin only piercer that hasnt been found yet?
