not that good for noobs get whip of strangulation 6 24 and procs choke from lvl 10 total of 80 or 60 dot also reduces attack of mob and there is little difference in proc
8/26 either melee for as low as the 30pp that I bought mine for, what a great weapon! You guys are nuts to not like it, heck even some 40+ people use this and for lower levels it's the best bang for your buck out there. Kinda like when we used to buy fine steel weapons off the higher level players, none of them ever complained that FS weaps were crap they just offloaded them on players or merchants and went about their business...
Oh, the good ol' days...when you were thrilled to be able to buy a FS weapon and if you were REALLY frugal maybe you could save up enough to make the "long" trek to Oasis and buy one of those magical Combine weapons...yep, those were the days... lol
Agree, for the price this is a nice little newbie weapon (gotta like the low wt too)...and it's even magic! These youngsters have it too easy, I say... :o)
Felt kinda cheated myself. I played back then and thought I had good gear. Quit eq for a while then when I came back everyone lvl 20+ (occasionally lower) was totin lammy or wurmy or somethin snazzy like that that I always wished I could somehow manage to get but knew that it was just a dream =D
Umm ok Im not knockin this thing for being a nice newbie item but when you get to the lvl you need to kill the hollow terror you should have MUCH better and be able to laugh your **** off at the stats hehe but thats just me and my 2 SSoYs talkin so peace
hehe i guess this is a nice item... i got mine from my guild at lvl 5..errr...maybe 6... i cant remember but it has gotten me through some tough times....
This is a pretty nice weapon. Most of the whips in the game are pretty pathetic, but this one sure cuts the cheese nicely. The DMG/Delay ration on it isn't half bad. Since most of the serious high level players have much better this is certainly a nice gift item. Plus it looks cool, what more can you ask for?
Fortunately you can't accidently throw this whip. Theres a whip out there with range on it (really crappy range too), kinda funny.
I was lucky enough to have a high level guy give this to me when I was only level 3. Now at 23, I still use it and plan on using it for a long time. Works great with dual weild and will be awesome when i get my wurmslayer. It's delay will compliment the wurm nicely. :)
This is a nice weapon. A lot of tanks 40+ that aren't camping a weapon spawn usually have worse than this. There is one wierd thing about this though... it has a better dmg/delay ratio than the bbk(brazen brass kilij, a very common tank tweak item) yet the bbk is much more expensive, and more difficult to get. With this, no-one should buy the bbk except for status.
I just got one yesterday, and for a cool 50pp no less! I'm normally a 2 handed slasher, but using this and my SBS for bashing casters, I consistently hit for 15-17 damage with it. Plus, I seem to do more crippling blows also. Its good delay (For me at least) makes it ideal to taunt those pesky MOBs. WOOT !
okay, first of all i am a newbie as you all would put it. i have one character, a level 19 SK DE on the vazealle server (sorry about spelling). one day while in neriak i was shopping around and went into 'the toadstool', a relatively useless place to me unless you are a brewer or like to drink. upon left clicking the merchant i was shocked to find THIS whip in his stock. at first glance i thought it was a dumb cloth belt or a bow string but i thought i'd check on it because i am a fletcher. i saw the stats, i needed a magical 1hs, i checked the price;
30 something PLATINUM pieces
that's right. some fool sold this item to the merchant in neriak and i got it for the low low price of 30 plat. everybody asks me about the whip. it is my pride and joy.
just thought i'd post what info i have on it.
oh, and with my 85 str it does around 17 dmg on average.
For people that hunt in the depths of the crystal caverns, this is easy to get...it seems to be a common drop from many named spiders and terrors. More to the point, this is a lore item, so crystal fibers often rot because no one can loot them. For this reason I and many other people end up just selling them to vendors; better to get the 15pp or so (I think) from selling them quickly to a vendor than nothing at all.
Most of the other loot from mobs that drop the crystal fiber is worth far more, so it's usually not worth it for those people to sit around trying to find a player who wants to buy it. While it's a nice item, it's far too common for it to get a price that'll make it worth the wait.
Neriak is an unusual place to find one, so you were lucky and got a good deal. However the person who sold it isn't necessarily a fool. :)
Great for twinking (as there are no procs to worry about), but wait until level 8, or your skill progression will suffer (This kills level 1-8 MOBs with one hit. Fewer swings = slower skill profression).
last time i checked, a weapon with 8 damage didn't exactly kill any mob over lvl 1-2 in one hit. an 8dmge wepon will hit for abou 16, maybe 20 hp, wich is about the hp of an averge lvl 1 mob
Um, yes this weapon can kill a level 1 creature at level 1 with one hit. Rats, Spiders, Snakes have 15hp Fire Beatles (Level 2) have 33hp Level 3 MOBs ~60hp
The "one hit" argument isn't really the point here-- it's the fact that you make a kill in very few attacks early on, which means that all your fighting skills are going to suffer when you get up a few levels, making things TOUGHER than they would be if you'd worked your way up with the newbie weapon. Not just your attack skill for that weapon (unless you did fighting with other "weaker" weapons as well-- ALL the battle-related skills, because the fights are over so much faster. Fewer attacks means less opportunity for weapon and Offense skills to go up. Getting attacked less means Defense doesn't climb like it should. If you have other abilities used in (or just after) combat, they don't get a workout either, like Kick, Bash, the Monk's Mend skill (since you aren't getting beat down as much), Bind Wound, etc.... Not to mention what you AREN'T learning about how to handle MOBs with the class you're playing (unless you've played it though before). Warrior tactics differ from Monk tactics, from Mage tactics, from Shammy tactics, etc....
I learned this the hard way with my DE Rogue, Tresk. Twinked him with a full suit of Banded, and a Bloodstained Fang (nice magic Piercer, fairly cheap find off a merchant) for a weapon. Now he's just hit level 7, and my Piercing skill is only now getting within 10 points of my current cap-- the last two levels, I was missing about 6 of 7 attacks or so, and the enemies were getting powerful enough that instead of averaging 19-20 per hit like I did before, it was averaging about 7-9. That don't cut it in heavy traffic if you aren't hitting nearly every strike.
So Twinkers Beware! Nice weapons like these are attractive for how quick they let you kill, but that'll come back to haunt you later. Go ahead and buy things like this, but bank 'em at least until you get to 6 or so, maybe until you hit the teens if what you pick up is obscenely powerful for single digits. In the long run, it'll do you good.
Just think after you farm a bunch of these you can run a fiber optic data line to velious so that the dwarves can hook up a cable modem and order their beer online using an electronic data interchange setup. Boy that will cut the lead time on ordering beer for the dwarf bar.
Just call on the gnomes for the network engineering, and of course, you KNOW the halflings are gonna be the marketing arm....
Pretty soon the Wood Elves are gonna want to get in on it so they can get their home gardening tips without ever leaving their tree houses, and the high Elves are going to want data access to do more accurate magical calculations and spell predictions. The DE are gonna tap into the network and snoop on everyones packets, while the hummies are going to subscribing to the Elven Spice channel. The Trolls, Ogres and Iksar are going to get left out, because no one will want to run the cable through the swamps or out over the OT (too many critters in the ocean will think the cable is a snack or something to pull fresh snacks with), and the Erudites, being pompous, will develope wireless with a bounce from Luclan....
Heheheheheh that just kinda popped into my head... somebody please shoot me????
