This is a defacto Rogue Piercer, like Bloodstained Fang, and some various others. They're cheap and have decent stats. While this won't Backstab hard, it's great offhand for the extra stats.
My first character was given one of these on his first day out before Irealised what was going on. Of course about half an hour later I wandered into EC and was eaten by a Lioness. Didn't have the first idea where I was and of course could never find my corpse again.
I saw a twinked necro with one of these in EC doing the orc camp thing. I don't know how great a weapon it is, but the appearance was pretty darn cool compared to a crummy dagger.
As a weapon, you NEVER need to replace it on your wizard. It's plenty good to get you thru the levels where it makes any sense to melee. Don't flame; Sure it's fun to melee past 20ish, it's just not sensible. :) So I wouldn't spend any serious money on a melee weapon. If you still melee (after all it's several days since your post and you may have levelled some, hehe) and you have the money, go ahead and buy something with better ratio, like a 9/27 Crystal Grinder, or a (10/22?) shaded dagger if you have that kind of scratch.
Eventually (whenever you feel you're about done meleeing) you'll want to get something with stats you want...maybe another weapon a la Sacrificial Dagger, or maybe a non-weapon for primary hand.
p.s. 40pp? Geez what server? Granted Brell Serilis has quite low weapon prices, but hey they're like 10pp or less in the bazaar now. 40 plat will get a Crystal Grinder if you're patient...or 50 plat will, anytime.
Tank your little heart out, if you enjoy that. I made a ranger just to break up the boredom.
Im not gonna flame, but stats wise on an INT caster id want something with INT. A great example for a non twink, non rich player would be Blood needle in Innothule swamp. It has additional INT and later on can be put in the ranged slot, now THAT will grow with you for a while. And I think the point was made here, if your NOT of level to hunt the walrus, but you have some cash, save up another 10-20pp and just buy a decent weapon.
And on another side note, I dont know if all the 'fang' lines have the same graphic, but this one is very cool for that reason, being it has a graphic that looks like a wide shapely short sword... even if not somewhat unique. I think it resembles the blade of passage...?
Damn some people are greedy. On my first trip to Velious I got one of these and a bag full of Velium weapons of various kinds. I gave the tooth away to a rogue and sold the bag of Velium weapons for about 50pp the whole 8 slot bag. These things drop common as muck over in Velious and so trying to sell them for 80pp each and upwards is just being plain greedy. You must remember not all people in this game are twinks and that some of them are genuin newbies with no pp to their names, with items like these that drop off 90% of the mobs its about time the prices dropped.
It's the law of supply and demand. If there's a twink in the zone that will buy it for 100pp, then sell it at that price. If there are no 100pp buyers, sell it for 50pp for middle folks. If no middle folks, sell it for 10pp to newbies.
This item comes from a level 40+ area. I don't imagine it was specifically designed to end up in the hands of a level 5 wizard, else it would drop from orcs in EC.
I'm not saying don't be generous to newbies (because I frequently am) but I also appreciate the fact that it's a decent weapon deserving of a decent price and not just junk to be tossed away.
Yes, being a real Newbie and collecting every copper from rats and snakes, 1pp means a lot to me. You can tell one is a real newbie or not by looking at his equipment slots. Be generous to a real newbie, please.
I think this is a fine weapon for any caster at the level it can be gotten. Sure, there are better out there, but with the relative ease that this weapon can be found, any caster with a left over water crystal staff or other mid range weapons that doesn't have time to go camp something for 3 days should get this weapon. (Just had to get off the subject of price, the price it's worth is how much you can sell it for).
it took me a long time to sell one of these for 50 plat on vallon zek (market on pvp servers is a little messed up) nevertheless, this price has come down since this string was started -the antipope
PEOPLE! GET A GRIP! If you do not want to buy an item from somebody because of the price or just because you don't like them, OH FRIGGIN WELL!!!!!!! I will admit that 350pp on a walrus tooth is harsh, but just leave the people alone! Whenever I see a person with an over-priced item up, I'll send them a little tell or post that just kind of waves a flag in front of them sayin, "hey, that's not the going price" then tell them what I see it go for. If they take my advice, great, if not, they have a reason! I have had things up for auction that were over-priced and I sold them. The reason being usually that they are rare/high demand in the area or maybe I'm feeling stubborn. Sometimes I'll put a way-high auction up because I saw someone auctioning for it for just a little under what I put up. Then they see my auction, start talking with me, then we come to an agreement. I am only a lvl 17 rogue, but some SERIOUS cash (in the 5k's) have passed through my fingers because of selling strategies such as this. I have a very nice equip (yes, I love to brag) for my lvl. NO I am not twinked at ALL! My guild hates twinking. I have earned it all by buying low and selling high. Future stock player right here, I guess. I have bought items off of high lvl people just passing through where I was for CHEAP just because they weighed them down and my fast typin lil fingers. Then I would sell them in the highest demand zones for top dollar. So just leave people and their auctions ALONE!
There is no way that someone can compare the 2. An excellent example is the DRT (dwarven ringmail tunic) pretty easy to get in CB (at least for a reasonable lvl player) and there are a few people who will just goof off in CB and kill the dude that drops it for fun and give it away to the first person who wants it. Yet, mearchants "sell" these for 250pp or so. If anyone out there will pay 250pp for a DRT, I got some nice ocean-side property in Montana to sell ya REAL cheap. If you're lucky, you can sell these for 50pp in auction (just don't put that number in the auction or you'll get verbally abused by someone who knows what they're talkin about). If I stumble across one, I'll look for an unsespecting newbie and put it in the trade screen, if their name goes green, it's theirs, if not, I'll sell for 30-35pp MAX and if someone offers me 25, it's theirs (merchants will give me 15pp for it, the greedy platinum mongers). So, prices on items should NOT be determined by what merchants buy/sell them for. It would be nucking futz! Instead, it should be determined by the people that are auctioning it and buying it. NUFF SAID.....sheesh, I can TYPE when i wanna make a point! :9)
They might drop off every other walrus and Ulthork, but you can only carry one back with you to Thurgadin unless you really like running back and forth a lot for that 15pp or whatever the vendor pays. Or ... if you're going to kill 2 walruses then port to WC and sell in EC and gate back to get another one, you sure won't be making a profit. The price is based on what people will pay. If you really wanted one bad enough, you could go to EW near Kael where people are killing walruses and just ask to loot one. I've walked to Thurgadin with a level 2 character, it's not all that dangerous. It's just 2 hours of your time and a risk of getting killed and having to start over again, just to get a dagger that isn't going to do all that incredibly much. This dagger is on par with the Dragoon Dirk and others that sell for 50pp, any more than that, you're making a good profit, any less than that and someone's getting a good deal. At least in my opinion, but I'll sell one for 100pp if I can get that much. But I'm not going to quit playing the game if I can't get that price anymore.
for a couple of days, there was a few people going around in qeynos hill auctioning off these things. I asked how much they were(being a caster i considered the STR bonus and using this until i get an INT weapon) and one of them told me 150pp. so i told him no and he started lowering it little by little(even though i didnt do anything else, just wasnt going to pay 90pp for that). and here comes my master, telling me he found a merchant in the Karanas selling a walrus tooth for a little more than 50pp, and if i wanted it to grab the cash and make the run. Anyway, i did, and you doin great with it(after i poured all my points into piercing). This weapon is not too good. maybe good for a rogue off-hand, but there are better. this weapon should only go for about 20-25pp, depending where you are a little more for TP fees.
If they are twinked they deserve it, because probably they have a much higher level character who got this gear for them. Dont mess with twinks. But if they just have good gear they did nothing to earn its not cool.

Same stats as SSOM, better than SWA...item IS worth 75-100p.
I find them for 76pp from the merchants. People sell them near velious for cheap, and more as you go away from it. Welcome to capitalism 101. SUppy high 10pp supply low 150pp. People love the graphic. Morell Thule server sells this for 15pp in E(bay) Commons.
These things drop off like every second Ulthork or Walrus, they are so insanely common it's actually insulting to try and sell one to a player. Some guy on Drinal is selling this for 150pp, OH PLEASE SIR, CAN I WASTE MY MONEY ON YOUR WOEFULLY EASY TO GET ITEM!?
If you haven't already, read my post above about the new price (75pp). But I neeed to know, how do i make my email public? i dont want to have to right it in my description everytime. thanks.

I know that humanity is based on greed, and now I can see that it transfers to this game as well. I know its fun to exploit the idiocy of those with lots of money, but a word to those people who would pay over 100pp for something like this...off of merchants this will cost you 60pp. That should tell you something about what this is worth if the merchants, who's prices are always inflated, sell it for less than players. C'mon folks let's be realistic here! =P
I think the greed some ppl show in this game is amazing!! It's a COMMON drop! There is no reason at all to keep the price anywhere near 100pp on these things, when there are UNTWINKED newbies out there who can really benefit from this easy-to-get item! I'm going to make it my personal mission to farm the hell out of these things and give them to every newbie I see!
Actually it was correctly stated above that the supply vs demand dictates prices and you mis-stated your example that your GB would sell for 5pp, what would the merchant charge someone to buy it back? if it was say only 60pp to buy it back from the vendor and there were a vendor in guk and they dropped like flies and were lore then you would see prices change. if you want to be greedy sell it for 100pp, that just means I'll go get me one off a merchant instead of from you. Iceclad is really just a short trip from commons and there are vendors there... Jack the prices if you want, that just means that when I need a few plat I'll sell mine and make 40plat for a trip to get a new one.
That would explain why I bought a rare rapier of a merchant for 7pp and sold it for 100pp. A merchants selling price has nothing to do with its real value - anyone who has played for more than a week should know this ....
Merchant prices are only a valid indicator of a proper selling price in the respect that a player should never sell an item to another player for less than the vendor would pay him for it. The opposite, which you stated in your post, does NOT hold true.
A vendor who cons Warmly to me will offer to buy my Ghoulbane for about 5 plat. Does that mean my Ghoulbane should only be sold for a few plat to players? If I were to sell my Ghoulbane to a vendor for 5 plat I suspect that the vendor would resell it for maybe 200-300pp. Does that mean my sword is only worth selling to other players for 200-300pp? No, it just doesn't hold true. My Ghoulbane is still worth over 1000pp to any reasonable buyer.
So you see, vendor pricing is not an accurate indication of an item's worth. The only reasonable argument about pricing for this Walrus Tooth is how common they are to find. Supply and Demand control the pricing of items in a free economy.
Did you notice the stats on this thing. I know its common and the merchants are idiots, but this thing is gold to anyone under 30. I think the price should stay at least 100p just because it destroys the value of any other casters piercer if you charge any less. While deflation may be good for the buyer, for the sellers it really sucks.
You do realize that getting through Velious to Thurgadin is not an easy task. IF you don't die from the creatures it takes a good long travel time to bring this back and sell it unless you are a porter. And then on the average ports to Velious alone cost 15-20pp for someone to get you there and back. Give or take a few pp. I think that the weapons stats and the travel time are a good estimate for 100-120pp.
Hey this is Jarnon sorry if I got everyone worked into a frenzy, that price was based on a PC i did. I guess the results were wrong, since so many people here tell me it isn't worth 2oopp. I had one guy tell me 2oopp, and one guy said 1oopp-2oopp. I was not trying to be greedy, and to prove it I will lower cost to 75pp. I would make it lower but I bought mine for 1oopp and dont want to lose too much money. I am on Tunare server, email me at jodokast1st@hotmail.com so we can set up time and date and place for exchange if you want it.
you are really right my lvl 10 rogue uses this and it is very good for a wimpy little DE. i don't know but i think it should stay at 100pp too soo keep up the realism

I've been killing Walrus and Ulthorks, they're so common that we're having to leave them on the corpse and they rot away. I've been selling mine for 30p. Even 100p is crazy. These things drop like flys.
These are the Minotaur Axe of the original release. They drop common, but until everyone and their pet has one they'll probably sell high to the unknowing newbs.
This and a silvery war axe is a great combo since they have the same delay and damage and plus for a warrior it keeps to skills up. The 3 str and 6 sta are also very sweet.
Also agree, since my Rogue is using that combo right now -- free gifts from a high level druid (after I paid for my port, she asked to inspect my inventory and gave them to me). The buffs alone are worth keeping the tooth for several more levels.
My 15 rogue has the very same combo. Very cool. Pierce and backstab from primary, 1hs with the axe as the secondary. Have considered a blood-stained fang for the better dmg, but can't give up the str and sta buffs of the tooth.
ADDED BONUS- I got the tooth for 30pp (the guy was being nice, that's all I had on me at the time!)
