Spawning him - I dont know about all the bugs and or unusual spawn times BUT : It used to be, you could go into the cave, and pull 2 minos from the cave. If you dragged them all the way accross that field of yard trash, there is a tree there. It used to be you could kill the 2 at that very spot. I witnessed a guy do it over and over. It might be because he killed 2 in a short time, but doing it any other way did not spawn the hero, only killing 2 in that spot spawned him. He would even appear right there.
Its funny, in 4+ years they actually change very little, but this spawn always seems tinkered with.

lol if you ever want to know where to get them, i have found a vendor on Cazic Thule and Tunare servers that sell them for about 9pp with about 90 cha, and i can keep buying them, but not at the same time since they are lore, if you want to know where to get them easily without doing the quest, the weapons merchant in south qeynos' warrior guild, something of pain or such, he is on the lower floor

Thats because someone doing the quest sells them to him. I thought that stopped back when they lowered the spawn rate of the hero.

ok where can i find the hero? i went to the NE corner of the zone and when i got to the end of the mines i had 2 minitaur gaurds and some psychotic little gnome after me!

This game is called EverQUEST, not EverBUY. I would like to know where he is also as I plan to do this quest to soon. I'm only lvl 37 so I can't farm plat like crazy.
He spawns OUTSIDE the minotaur cave, near the big upturned gear. However, he only spawns "in time of great need to the minotars" so go in the cave, and clear it several times, and if you are lucky, he will pop. It really helps to be a tracking class, or bring one with you.
He used to spawn pretty quick, but that led to people using the quest to get exp, so they nerfed it.

Actually, the fast spawning Minotaur Hero was a bug. The many people using the quest for easy exp just brought the bug to SOE's attention. While he has never been a particularly rare spawn (1 every 30 minutes to an hour, if someone is killing minotaurs), during the time he was bugged, he was a guaranteed spawn after the death of a minotaur. It took all of about a minute to spawn the hero during that time.

The hero will spawn if you kill the undead outside the cave, I have done this myself to get it, it works. ..Of course clearing the cave is still fun, but you don't have to.
My Ogre SK sold these today for 100pp. He does not need the 10 Str as much as he needs int.
My Ranger though, swears by these. Rangers could use Str (especially wood elves) so the Hero Bracer/Ivy Bracer combo works for him until I get a better dex bracer to replace the ivy, either the Bracer of Scavenging or the Rust Encrusted Wristguard (when I see a good deal).

Killed him this morning (8:30am GMT).
Con'd dark blue to me , died with me using only 35% mana ( 1x snare , 2x root , 2x immolate , 2x creeping crud , 2x stinging swarm - med between roots)
Didn't drop the shackles :/

Well I've been doing this quest since 30 with my mage (we love you KEI!) and since the last patch there's a new spawn time on the hero. It used to be kill the place holders (could be any slaver or a slaver in the mino cave or the other mino camp, or the runner outside the the newbie crater) and he would pop, but now the slavers don't seem to spawn untill enough time has gone by, haven't timed it yet myself but masicly this quest can't be used to farm EXP at rediculus rates any more (went from 43 to 44 with my mage including zonign and summongin and sharing spawns in 2 and a half hours played time... boring but you can't beat the exp) which angers me but it was good while it lasted, and hey I have a reason to lvl normaly now since I can't 'cheat' hehe
How did you get KEI at level 30?

Just did this quest last nite with some guildies - the Hero is, at least most times, spawned by killing the slavers. I indeed saw three Heros spawn one right after the other on multiple occasions - another guild was also running the hero quest - I'm guessing that in 2 hours about 30 Heros went down - and I'm not looney, as I turned in enough shackles to hum through 58% of a level and ding 49. As a 48 Human Warrior, I was getting 7% xp per turn in. There were a couple times when the placeholders were killed off and the Hero didn't spawn, but I don't think more than 10 minutes went by without a Hero. And I was getting Druid ports back to SF, so I was never out of zone more than 10 minutes. Hope this helps.

You're probably going to find this hard to believe but these are now ground spawn in PoK near the Qeynos stone. Running along and saw a "bag" on the ground, picked it up and it was a Hero Bracer. A couple minutes later and another one showed up....believe it or not. Terris Thule by the way.

LOL - if you had said Xev, then I'd say that it was me - the bracers sell back for a massive 1 plat each and I felt like I was ripping people off charging anything more than a SOW for one, so I'd just dump the old one before I popped down to Qeynos.

I remember this day. Someone was dropping them on the ground so anyone could pick them up. They don't sell back to merchants for much, so why not let some lowbie have them for free if your feeling generous.

If you're over level 24 and you have your "Ring of Steamfont" spell, I'd advise clicking it once in a while and then checking out the merchant Crisyn by the druid circle. The last 7 times I've done this on Kane Bayle server there were Hero Bracers on the merchant 4 of the times, and on all but one occasion there was more than the one I bought. So for a little mana, cast Ring of Steamfont, buy a HB for 15pp, cast Ring of Nexus, go into the bazaar, sell it cheaper than everyone else (usually 39 or 49pp does the trick), rinse and repeat. Woot! Free plat!
Hehe, I had my hero bracers since lvl 17, I'm lvl 37 now, I had a Hero bracer Ivy etched bracer combo, and I liked it, but the Ivy bracer wasnt so hott, So I got a Kylong wrist guard, cha5 str5, and still had the Hero bracer, But Soon, Im gonna do the quest for Ice Forged Shackles, They are +5str +5sta +5cha +50hp. LORE NODROP item, I need to know though, Should I keep the Kylong wristguard or should I keep the hero bracers?

I don't know how or why, but I found these on a Merchant in Qeyons just now. Paid 28pp for it and was then worried that I paid too much (being a begineer) and came to check here!

He's right that peeps do this quest for the exp you can get. I was near the windmills looking for rogue clockworks for servos for my trushot when i get a tell asking if the hero was up check track and sure enough he was. A few mins. later i get another tell asking if i wanted hero bracers and you know i ran to meet him and get em. Told me that he'd rather give em to someone who could use them rather than sell them to a merchant. Can't wait till i gain a couple more lvls to do this quest if the exp is that good.

There is a good reason why you would find them on a merchant in Qeynos. The quest turn-in is in Qeynos, and the bracers are lore, so you can only have one at a time.
What happens is, many people will do the quest for experience, rather than the bracer. At level 32, when my druid started doing this quest, I got one yellow of experience, between killing the minotaur hero (about 1 blue), and turning in the shackle (4 blues). Needless to say, with experience like that, you want to turn them in as fast as possible. With high charisma, the merchant pays 1pp for the bracer, and 3+pp for the mino axe that the hero drops. If they sell them to an out of the way, rarely used merchant, they can always come back later, and buy it back to resell. Unlike players, merchants can hold unlimited numbers of lore items.
Personally, I prefer to port to nexus, zone to bazaar, and sell the bracer as quick as possible, but if fast exp is your goal, selling to a merchant can save time.

It would be interesting to see if this quest is still worth doing for the XP since they nerfed quest XP a little while ago.I seriously doubt there are very many quests left in the game that would give you a full yellow at 32 anymore. It confuses me why they would nerf quest XP, though, since they have been putting in short cuts for new players to get up to where they can raid for a long time. Nerfing quest XP seems a step backwards to me.

My lvl 14 Woodelf ranger found this item on a mino that an uper lvl character let me loot. I think it might be no drop so I cant give it to my ogre warrior. So what should I do with it? Do I sell it at the bazzarr or try to do the Escaped catman quest? Can a lvl 14 do the rest of the quest (which involves killing the named catperson)? And if so how is the exp for a lvl 14?
Don't do ANYTHING with it yet. Put it in the bank and let it simmer till you're able to finish the quest. You've got the toughest part done already, and this is a great item for a warrior.

I am quite confused. I am a lvl 49 wood elf ranger who is trying this quest. I succesfully got the key from Momala and also got the shackles from the Mino hero. When I gave them to Grahan, he gave them back claiming he did not need them. Now my faction is already amiable to so I was quite confused. I check here and realize doing the Steel Warrior Initiation might help. So I do that quest. Then I try giving Grahan the shackles again he says "We have nothing against you but you have not proofed your worth yet". Why does he say this? I have had amiable faction from the beginning.

Forget all that running around. I was indifferent to the Steel Warriors, so I did the initiation quest once. Although now amiable, he still would not talk about the Hero Bracer quest. Rather than doing other quests, I just did the beginning of initiation quest over and over. Grab about 30 bat wings and 30 snake scales, and get the bag and combine 5 of each, and just keep destroying the letter he gives you, and get another bag. You can keep repeating while standing in front of him. Every time you hand in combined bag you get faction. I got enough after 3 combines to do the quest, you might have to do more if you did not do the whole quest to start with.
Just want to post this so other peeps know....
I have killed many gnolls that I was able to obtain 189 fangs. I turned them into the lady NPC in the Pit of Doom in Halas and got faction with the steel warriors. Remember you have to turn in THREE fangs at a time to get it to tigger.
Went back to South Qeynos and they all con indifferent. Dammit! I was pissed. So I logged and when I relog the next day. They all conned Amiable. GO FIGURE. Looks like zoning really does not change anything. If you are in a similiar situation try camping out and logging back in in about 30min and see if that helps.

If steel warriors dont like ya, just kill gnolls wtill they con apprehensive-indifferent and start turning in gnolls fangs, then do the steel warrior initiation then onto the hero bracer quest.

Just finished this quest the other day...these make a nice upgrade from the Bracer of Erollisi that I had been wearing. As a Wood Elf, I need all the str I can get! Will probably do the quest again, change out my Ivy Etched bracer as well!
Just noticed this is listed as Lore...didn't notice that on my char...will check and update.
RATS! Yes, this IS a lore item <sigh> so much for farming them for cash! LOL

You can definitely farm these for cash. Very easily. Having the PoP expansion makes it much easier, since there is a portal in Ak'Anon and Qeynos, and they are pretty close together in the PoK. After you get the bracer, just head to the Nexus and sell it. I got 150 for them pretty easy. They were going for 400 in the bazaar, but I wanted to unload them quickly. Then, back to the PoK and then finally Ak'Anon again for another shackles, and repeat.
+10 Str is a nice stat for this quest item
I may just do the quest and pick one up to replace this old sta/dex one I scored in OOT.

I ran the Wolves of the North Elixir quest repeatedly for 2 days, (gated back to Halas just before giving it to Megan, and started the quest again) My faction is now high amiable and i have done the hero bracers with no problem. With SoW and gate, you can do this quest multiple times in the course of an hour, with a SW faction hit (positive) every time you give the elixir to a guard and when you return the empty vial. I hope this helps someone get this excellent item.

What is your race / class? Having a hard time as a half elf Ranger ( worships Karana ) in getting faction with Steel Warriors.

Had the same trouble as a human ranger of Karana - unfortunately most of the quests that produce decent faction with the Steel Warriors require that you be amiable to begin with. Rather than turn in hundreds of gnoll fangs in Halas, I did the good version of The Clothspinner Sisters 5 times to get to amiable, then the Steel Warrior Initiation quest several times to bring the faction to high amiable, at which point I could do the second part of the Hero Bracer quest.

I read that iksar can wear in some places from Jan 12, 02 on that it is now iksar wearable and more presently than that it says it isn't.
Which one is correct? please someone who has one now try it out on an iksar and then answer this post

Iksar cannot wear this bracer. They could for a short while, but according to a patch that was a mistake. Same thing happened with the Giant Femur (I was happy when my BST could use it for the short time he did) and a few other items.
I feel the pain. A person in my guild is constantly unhappy (and expresses this in guild chat) about the 10STR he no longer has in bracer slot.

For your infomation isk cant wear them any more verant nerf it. This makes me so pissoff just when I finally get good enough faction to do the quest and got the item they nerf it:(
