I just farmed 16 of these for 2 alts doing the shawl quest. Took 55 velium hound kills, so almost exactly a 30% drop rate, not too bad.
The first night I was there, didn't come across many hounds after the first clear. The next night, I had seen the comment someone left about also clearing the mastadons and brontotheriums. Doing that improved the spawn quite a bit.
Also, I wouldn't want to even consider this camp without a tracker.

Since anyone has posted anything on this. I was in WW last night for HOURS and only came across ONE freakin hound - and of course, he didn't drop anything. Is there a particular part of the zone they stay in?
any info would be fantastic.
Oh yea.. one more thing: There was someone on Tunare selling these at 2k EACH. Since I need at least a stack (will have some fails), that's just not an option.

on prexus they are spawning underwater in the SW corner, and then appear to be getting stuck underworld.
Just got a bunch for my twink, and I ended up swimming underwater along the ledge until they agrod and warped up.
If you can, get a tracker to track them a few times so you get a feel for where they are getting stuck, then just swim along there every few hours agroign any spawns.

These are easy to solo for my enchanter. They do run fast so sow is a must. Cast illusion imp for lev so you can get far enough ahead of em to root if the charm breaks on you buffed Masto or Bronto pet. Run it up a hill and fly away from the hill when it is on the way down the hill you can easily root em before they get to you. Recharm pet. The biggest problem is running all over the zone trying to find em.

+ These furs are used in high-end tailoring recipes, most notably they are used in the 8th Coldain Prayer Shawl quest for which you will need at least 8 of them (or more if you fail on any combines).
+ These furs come from Velium Hounds in Western Wastes. They are level 50-53 mobs that hit around 150 and run very fast, don't count on being able to outrun them. Some classes can solo these in their high 50s. They are not unusually MR, so you can snare and fear them. They are animals so you can use the panic-animal and charm-animal line of spells on them.
+ This zone is filled with mobs on CoV faction...so if you are non-KoS to CoV then it makes hunting them alot easier. But the bummer is that they are on the same spawntable as the CoV wyverns and wurms...with most people not wanting to hurt CoV faction, it is very difficult to find the hounds up. A good idea is to visit WW following a server reset.
+ On rare occasion you can find a player selling the furs for prices ranging anywhere from 1k (bargain) to 10k (rip-off). IMO a fair price for these furs is 3k each...at least thats what I'd pay for them considering the difficulty in obtaining them.

Some selling on bazzar right now on tunare for 200pp a peice about 24 of them /shrug
Drop rate was increased since these posts were made, so the prices have come down quite a bit. Still uncommon to see for sale, but cheaper now. They run for anywhere from 400-1k on E'ci.
I have hunted in WW alot with my 53 druid, and while it is not hard to solo these, or the other non-CoV animals, I can tell you, as of the last time I was there in mid-October, they couldn't have increased the drop rate much at all. I have killed at least 50 hounds and NEVER seen so much as one velium hound fur drop. Now granted, if in fact they DID increase the drop rate, I really would not have wanted to try for these drops before that! LOL!! (In any case, I know I am also just unlucky, since 0 for 50 is just absurd for anything...well, except Quillmane...stingy horse!)

Fair price for these furs is 3k?? I'd say 1k to 1500pp based on the going rate on Povar. But still, they are hard to come by. And ever since the GENIUSES at VI decided to make the "engraved" droppable version of the armor needed for the 8th shawl, you can prolly expect to pay 2k for each one you need. Way to ***** us over on getting that 8th shawl done!!! Lucky for me, I am a grandmaster brewer who knows a few people that hunt the hounds, and they needed my help with 9th coldain ring ale ( trivial 247 if i am not mistaken ).

For the 8th shawl, you need Imbued, not Engraved Royal Velium. Engraved is droppable, Imbued is NO DROP. Just for clarification is all :)
