I use this in my primary melee slot and Trochillic's Skean in my secondary melee slot and my ability to taunt at lvl 53 keeps mobs on me very well. I have no problem keeping the agro on me as opposed to casters or other tanks. As a matter of fact I use this wpn over some other heavier hitting wpns because it seems like it works better for the agro it provides.
We got one to drop off a skeleton the other day, plagebone i believe. I have spent ages in CoM and only ever seen 1 drop. Its pretty rare. I have also heard of someone who got one to drop of a golem. Also you can tell when a skelly has it as he will be holding it. CoM is pretty awesome for XP in the 40s. If you want anything from here your best of Xping here at around this level.
this, along with Wu trance stick, GJB, and wraith bone hammer, and maybe some more, drop off all guys in CoM (except maybe some named's that drop other stuff).
some are rarer than others, i've seen a Wu, a ku'juch, and 3 hammers (3 consecutive pulls =P) so far.
This is a nice proc, but, at 40+, there is ussually someone around who casts a higher level snare so that it doesnt stick. 8/22 sure is gud, but if you group alot, the proc may be a bit overrated.
In referance to the proc not only does it do dmg as a DOT but it also has a snare effect with it in the darkness spell. All darkness spells slow targets movements and drops some other stats too. This is very usefull. Have fun with it and GL.
40% slow (movement) when it takes on the mob. its a great taunt. what warriors are all about. i believe it will cancel a necros darkness line spell so, in a group with a necro he might not love you. But, when grouped and no snarer or rooter or whatever in the group you will love this especially.
Right, if a necro casts a higer one it will over right this. The cool thing is it will proc still and say "this spell did not take hold" or whatever, but it still is HUGE taunt.
IMO I like this as well and also got one the other night and dropped my Yak. I have been reading up on this item and for some reason it kinda has a bad rap. /ponder I like it. and it looks very kewl with my WS and does some nice damage. It's a lil faster then Yak w/ the same damage, so even if it is resisted I'm still hitting fast. And hitting fast is always good. Right guys =)
It's nice, I just can't find a use for it. Sucks as pri as by now you should be able to get a 10/22 or something like that, and for secondary, it's pointless to use something with an equal or faster delay, might as well shoot for higher damage. Oh, it' looks like those cheapie weapons drop from skels in Loio, I think Tareshes or something is what they're called.
It's not pointless to use something with an equal or faster delay as an offhand weapon. In fact, the delays and swing times on your off/primary hands are completely independent. You only actually make a swing with your offhand x% of the time the delay comes around, as per your dual wield skill. Anyhow, the proc on this thing ROCKS. Even with the reduced taunt of procs, engulfing darkness is a biggie. As for the rarity, I saw the first one drop tonight (and won it... with a 36 :-P) after maybe two weeks of hunting in City of Mist... so they are none too common. And tonight alone, three wraithbone hammers dropped... just to give some perspective ;) Good weapon IMO. Not especially uber or anything, but I think it's worth ditching my yak for.
Karlavi, since when? That has been a key point in discussing weapons for the higher level tanks since a few months after the game came out. The fact that secondary weapons share delay with primaries is the reason the 3/10 and 4/11 weapons where nerfed and why something like Wurmslayer is primary hand only.
Maybe you should run some logs on mobs that always spawn at the same level. Get say a wurmslayer and a ssoy for your primary and a blunt or piercer for your secondary. In all cases, when you use the wurmslayer, your off hand damage will drop.
I could be wrong, as could we all, but the reason the Ultra low delay weapons like the moss-covered twig were nerfed to offhand only was because there's no damage bonus for the offhand. 3/10 becomes effectively 14/10 at level 60 in the primary whereas in the offhand it's still plain old 3/10.
Everything I've observed and read from the mad log parsers at monkly-business seems to agree that primary and offhand are independant of each other.
Lot's to clear up here and to add a current post. This is as of November 5th 2001.
This has been posted by a person who plays a 48 monk, post 50 necro, and post 50 druid. So I may make a mistake (i'm human too) with what I'm about to state, I will NOT state anything that I am not certain of. Any moron contesting everything in this post just immediately write off as a know-nothing, cuz, they are. You should see add-ons to this post, or a correction or two, NOT discrediting the whole post.. Just trying to help.
In response to primary vs secondary damages. That is correct. For the old rules. Primary weapons or two handed weapons get +X damage based on your level and weapon skill.
Not to be confused with post 50 melee damage bonuses.
There are *FEW*.. IF _*ANY*_ 1hers that have damage bonuses innately, as per recent post for TWO handed weapons. To date I have not seen any 1 handed weapon with a damage bonus. I don't believe they exist, but MAYBE.
In terms of snare / ensnare / darkness / root / annoying magicians and their earth pets / etc. A few months back spell effect stacking was changed. This is a level 16 (possibly lower) NECROMANCER spell, NOT Shadow Knight. Shadow Knights get the spell but they are a HYBRID and derive the ability from their parent class, the NECROMANCER.
This is NOT a blindness spell. This is NOT an attack debuffer in any way; will not slow attack, will not reduce attack stat, will not reduce the targets AC. Roughly 40% slow to movement base with damage over time, magic based, **THATS IT**.
Furthermore, darkness line, root, snare, and bard songs stack. NOT ALL, but in cases where they will not stack they WILL NOT OVERWRITE except in specific situations. You can't even SOW a person who has been sowed by someone higher level anymore.
Unfortunately I can't provide a complete and 100% accurate account of what spells will and will not stack, but I can name some.
Cascading Darkness & Snare / Ensnare needs to be tested before I can really say on this one. I don't think they stack, but if they do I believe they will work like root & snare, giving the damage over time, but not sure. NO I DON'T MEAN IF YOU SNARE AND DARKNESS THE MOB IT'LL BE ROOTED.
ROOT and Darkness and Snare line DO STACK. Ask any druid. That used to be their biggest complaint. "You nerf dots. You nerf druids. F U verant, we can't even root kite w/o getting killed half the time" Okay, so now druids pull with ensnare and then root mobs. When root wears off, the mob is still snared. SAME is true with darkness & ensnare, root, etc. This is also why Magicians and druids no longer hate each other. =) I won't explain every detail..some of you know what I mean, others, don't worry about it, it was changed anyways.
Bard songs. I don't know *exactly* what happens with these, but they DO NOT OVERWRITE SOW. No more BS with the idiot bard using selo's, lagging out, and then leaving half their party in the dust as they fall out of song range. Their chain/snare spells have also been changed. Same with stacking clarity song with clarity spells. If you don't play a bard and can't give 100% accurate information, DO NOT post in response. We have enough threads with BS in them as it is.
Moving right along. In terms of agro, procs, delay, etc. First off, primary and secondary are independant of each other. My monk's secondary actually does more damage (from time to time) than primary because I hold a master wu's trance stick in primary, and a cane of the tranquil in secondary. The primary weapon is faster, procs, and receives damage bonus.. so I choose to place the weapon there. My Cane of the Tranquil in secondary out damages my primary from time to time as a result that my monk has approximately 116strength unbuffed at this time. Difficult to keep average damage near the max and therefore it basically becomes a fly swatter. Cane of the Tranquil is 11dmg 25del, Master Wu's Trance Stick is 8dmg 18del 83dmg proc of Smite, the level 14 cleric spell. Starts procing at level 35. Trance stick is also half the weight, which is nice.
Okay now let's take a look at agro in terms of spell casting, and weapon procs. First..any mesmorize, charm, uber slow (shaman 39+), darkness line, snare/ensnare, and big heals create a LOT of agro. To further that point if a warrior wishes to use this weapon as a taunt, they'd be better off getting resisted from time to time. (did he say that? YES).
I'll tell ya something, have a uber agro spell stick creates a lot of agro.. about 1/3rd of the time the mob will attack YOU because of one of those spells. Taking into account having a melee with taunt, not having one, casting early, not casting early, etc. Rough estimate overall.. IE yes it taunts like a ****. Now when something of that nature is resisted it tells the mob 2 things 1) you're making it angry via slow 2) it wants you dead before you can try again, it's already resisted you once
Trust me. My necromancer's pet gets mobs off me no problem when darkness sticks, but when it is resisted... I gotta do a marathon. Some mobs hate you even more than other. To give one example, if I go to kill a high level Sarnak in Kunark and Cascading Darkness gets resisted, I either cast fear and try darkness again if I'm sowed, or I run. They come after me 90% of the time if it's not feared, period.
This is also why when I play a druid I will not join pickup groups in dungeons, EVER, and will refresh sow every 5-10 minutes.
So, couple the fact that certainly no self made pre 50 warrior could dream of solo'ing in city of mist without mind numbing down time, let alone hope for a drop in a 10 hour period some Saturday afternoon.. with the fact that day 1 in COM i got this weapon, and a green jade broadsword thing (or axe? wtfever, the 11dmg 25del ultra-rare weapon) within 30 mins of each other, and not a DAM thing since (36 hours camped after that) would tell me two things.
1) If you truely want good equipment, a good understanding of Everquest, and to train yourself to be a good group mate for future raids, CAMP YOUR GEAR.
2) Things are worth what the person selling it wants, and what people looking to buy one will pay. It's called supply and demand. In my little world this weapon is worth no less than 5k. I don't care what you, some GM, Absor, the sleeper... right, I care not who, anyone can say anything they want. In 4 days 4 hours a day in Rathe Mountains my necromancer can make between 3000 and 10,000 platinum. VERY easy. GOOD LUCK farming platinum, and then going to east commons to buy weapons like this. You will spend weeks in rathe getting money and quite possibly weeks more trying to buy your gear from someone. During that time you could probably get a drop for you and/or a guildmate.
In closing, anyone who knows who this is from Cazic Thule knows my personality and will identify me based on my writing style etc. If you receive this, or any other such drop, from me, and if I ever see you selling it that same week to buy your whatever... before checking back with me, you'll NEVER receive SPIT from me again. A good drop is worth more than 2k, I care not what anyone here or anywhere else says.
Any experienced everquest player, unless they are in a LARGE guild who raids MANY zones and FREQUENTLY (IE someone who gets this stuff all day like its water) will likely agree.
To escalate what I'm saying, go get yourself a Runed Bolset Belt from Lady Vox then /auc RBB and see what the raid leader tells you. You will be black listed, forever, from that entire guild's events.. unless agreed upon prior. I guarantee you.
FYI Rare- Been there along time now. Not Common "RARE" At least from my experience. The skele that weilded this bad boy couldnt get it to proc on me either.
