I finaly got this off a guardian of zek after killing giants on and off for 3 days. I looted it with my level 2 wizard that I camped by the arena, now I'm terrorizing the Kobolds in the tutorial zone with my clicky robe!

It's been weeks since I first arrived at the Giant arena. The monotony of the slaughter barely challenges me anymore and my pet has grown restless. I'm out of water and the rations have grown thin. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to hold out. I'm starting to think the object of my quest doesn't exist - that i've fallen victim to an elaborate plot designed to test my sanity. The worst part of it all is that i'm afraid my sanity may be the next victim to fall in the arena.
I was killing the giants that spawn and wander at the end of the hall before the arena (where merchant Svekk is found). Not realizing drop info was laking on the Torn enchanted silk robe I didn't record which exact npc dropped it (sorry... though iirc it was a watcher from that area).
I did make a necro happy when I ooced the robe though.

It dropped off an Armor of Zek today for me, these most likely have a chance to drop all armor pieces, too.

Think i may start posting my camp times on this non-existent item. As of 2-16-07 at 5Am, I have logged in excess of 23 hours on this fun little camp. 67 necro on the 7th server here. The only silk drop i ahve ever seen is the gloves on three occasions. I clear the arena, moslty behind it near the zeks, 4 times every night before bed now. Once i got a chain chest piece and a few corroded plate pieces, but only the silk gloves. Now some will say, the robe isnt worth it. I have collected all the stupid books and I WILL finish this quest some year.

Beyond rare lol. Spent 14 hours straight there yesterday (as well as 4 hours night before) clearing arena and temple as well as tormax area a few times got 2 plate, 1 leather on chests. During this time I got almost every other piece of chain and plate x 2 and every piece of leather x 3 or more. Silk seems to be rarest overall and chests are rare of course so the combination makes it much worse. Chain chest seems to be rare too since in all the years going there I have never seen it drop.

came in and cleared the arena once. 1st repop, it dropped off of adjutant strongaxe

I have literally spent 18 hours camping this so far with no luck. I clear it 3 times nightly on the 7th server. =/
Camped Kael arena on 4 occasions collecting helms for faction. about 5 or 6 hours each time. Dropped once from Adjutant Hoggren. I would guesstimate I have cleared the arena at least 8 or 9 times per occasion, guess it's rare?
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you thought you heard was not what I meant.

I spent almost 3 weeks in the Arena area of Kael killing every mob from the first set of "see invis" giants to the Zeks and no luck! 
Even after a few different guild raids where every named mob thru AoW was dropped, still no robe.
Posts in other locations on Allakhazam indicate the level 53+ Veterans, Adjudants and Legionnaires are the ones to kill. I can confirm these do drop the quest armor pieces, but yet to see a robe drop. Other than that, I have no fortunate information to add, but I haven't given up!
I hope the next time I edit this post it will be to tell everyone which mob dropped his robe for me.
EDITED: I finally got a robe to drop! This one dropped off Legionaire Sjeldor in the Kael arena. Time to go to bed, but I will be finishing this quest very soon.

I got mine in under an hour in Kael. We had just started clearing the giants, when Veteran Surlren dropped it.

Seems not only the references as to who dropped silk in the past is missing... but so many sub-named also missing from the list. This zone, along with the sudden ommissions of mob named, and the extreme nerf on silk drops.. leads one to believe that only leather and plate are going to be dropping here in the future. I've outfitted my necro with ornate. Cant even calculate the weeks saved doing that. Why the missing info ? Speculate on your own... I'd speculate "Removed from Game" since they couldn't just nerf it... pretty much same as most of the clickies that used to be..

No, we used to have all the various pieces for a particular class of armor (silk, plate, etc.) smushed into a single item entry in the database, along with a list of mobs that dropped that "item." At some point, we split the all-in-one items into the actual in-game items, but now we need information on which mobs drop which actual items. The items still drop in the zone; we just lack the information on who drops what.

Wow, it's kind of amazing that with as old as this item is no one has posted what mobs drop it, or even the general area. I too would like to know where this drops. While the magician robe isn't great (it's not bad, but could have had a better clicky), the grand robe of the oracle is. :)
