Ok I need help, I Hvae 3 weapons im not sure about using, I have a Glowing Black Sword, a Ebony Bladed Sword, and a Wakazashi of the Frozen Skies, Not I got the glowing back sword and the Wak because I want more Dex for the proc of 81 damage, and with armor too, and the sword I have 137 dex, I just got this and I like the proc, not I don't know if I should Equip both the Ebony and the Wak or just The Glowing Black Sword and one of them so ill have 20 more dex, but with 2 procing weapons, root and dd, that would seem kinda cool! I don't know, any advise?
I would use the Wakizashi of Frozen Skies. My 7 ranger has it and it procs 4-5 times a fight(well not proc but"insuficient will" message)He has 120+ agility. At 17 duel wield with the with the WoFS but until then use the GBS. The EBsword is nice but I personally perfer the DD proc then the snare proc. Just my opinion. Hope this helps
31 Ranger of Tunare 25 cleric of Brell 7 Ranger of Tunare ....many other toons also=)
I am currently using this in my off hand, with a BALS in my primary. A couple of times in group in OT, I have decided to try it in my primary so that the root proc would help with my damage output. I have quickly put it back in my off hand after it procced a couple times, as I very suddenly became Enemy #one on the mob's aggro list, and started to watch my HP's start to fall like internet stocks! Needless to say, the cleric/druid/shammy wasn't too happy to keep pouring manna down my throat!
In a group, I would only switch this weapon to primary for two occasions: peel off a mob for a caster (with the proc, a taunt, and a flamelick, the Mob will DEFINATELY notice you!) or to do a crowd control peel in the absence of an enchanter (whack the beastie you want to park with another weapon, pull it away from the others, then switch to the EBS to root it with the proc, then go back to the mob everyone else is whacking)
As a soloing weapon, this sword ROCKS for Root and Snipe. If your root breaks, you have the proc to back your root spell if the Mob makes it to melee range before you can get root to stick. Brave souls might even eliminate root from their memmed spells so as to have one more spell gem to use.
As for fear kiting, I would agree with the posts below. If it procs during a fear kite, step back and snipe, don't melee. Re-panic as necessary, then start whacking its butt once it starts running again. Rinse and repeat until dead.
Just an update...I am still using this sword occasionally, and now am no longer afraid to use it as my primary in group. Although its normal hit damge is so-so for my level (40), its proc along with Call of Sky (level 39 spell, gives all equipped weapons a chance to proc a 35 point DD with a 1 foot knockback <and possibly a VERY quick stun, according to some)can really help with damage dealing. I have had it proc both its own proc as well as CoS on the same attack round!
If the mob starts to pay you too much attention after this procs Ensnaring Root, just STEP BACK, so that your main tank is closer to the mob than you. Rooted mobs attack the closest toon to them EVERY time, no matter what! Ahh, since I hit 30, I've had to learn a lot about aggro control...

So basically no matter which hand you're wielding "uber_proccing_weapon_X" in, it has an equal chance of proccing either way.
Pretty good weapon if used in the right situation, but if you do a lot of fear-kiting, this is one of the worst weapons you could use. My L34 ranger has been doing a lot of panda/monkey/tiger hunting in Stonebrunt Mountains, a zone becoming famous for three things:
1) Excellent experience throughout the 30's. 2) Undercons (e.g., level 31 granitebacks hitting for 70+). 3) ADDS, ADDS and MORE ADDS.
Going toe-to-toe in solo melee combat with any 30+ mob in Stonebrunt is, if not suicidal, not very pleasant. That's what you'd be facing if you use this weapon, because even though root and fear are stackable, the root always takes precedence until it breaks. And what good would it do to fight that panda cub until it's rooted, then back off and heal (don't bother nuking it, ranger "nukes" are usually resisted by them), only to have a barrel of monkeys (BAD pun, I know) ith a huge aggro radius sneak up behind you and knock you senseless? Personally, I'd rather just snare/fear and hit him on his backside. Then if (ok, WHEN) an add comes along, fear him away, finish the panda, camo, run in the opposite direction from the add, and camp out to clear hate.
Everything I'm saying only applies to my own personal solo combat experience, your experiences may differ. Just my two copper. I'm not bashing this weapon, just saying that it's not for me.
I'm sorry mate .... not doggen on ya, but ... camp out to clear hate? If you can't solo don't ... that just sounds rediculous. Oh well, whatever works eh? hehe, good hunting.
Yup, both right - camping out to clear hate always a good last option in SB, and I'm hunting the highlands with half the zone green to me now. Even one add can seriously ruin your day, and take you down to dangerously low health, and many mobs there are almost as fast as SoW. Furthermore, the zone seems to have developed a problem, in that mobs skip around a lot - one minute you can see one right in front of you, and the next second it will have skipped over the next mountain. Makes tracking aggravating, and ver dangerous if one happens to skip into aggro range...
Reason for camping is that the zone is huge and mountainous, so running to zone is a) more time consuming, and b) tends to lose you more health anyway.
No, that's a good strategy if too low to finish it. Mobs in Stonebrunt lose interest easily, but if you wander near them again, they'll jump you. Better to finish off the adds after you finish your first, but if you can't find it (hmm...which of these 400 Kejek Leopards is pissed at me) camp out, and clear agro. You're medding for the 30 seconds to camp, so you only lose the time to zone back in.
I don't think I've ever seen this blade. What does it look like in the game? Also, I'm looking for a good Graphic 1hs sword for a paladin with a black or barkened blade. Any suggestions?
Identical to the rusty longsword that level 1 decaying skeleton you club for bone chips is carrying. This was around when the game was released and was THE ranger weapon until lots of people started getting into their upper 40's and Yaks started to flood the market. This also procs at 27 (?) while a Yak doesn't proc for another 10 levels after that.
I'll never forget the awe of seeing a ranger in full rubicite dual-wielding a pair of these bad boys for the first time (although I had to inspect him to be sure he wasn't dual-wielding rusty longswords).

THIS IS A MINOR PROBLEM UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO PL YOUR SELF WITH A HIGH LEVEL GIVEING YOU A HAND EXAMPLE IN NORTH FREEPORT THE GUARDS ARE PRETTY TOUGH, A HIGH LEVEL WAS FIGHTING THEM TO ALLMOST DEATH THEN MY LITTLE 24TH LEVEL RANGER JUMPS IN TO FINISH IT AS THE HIGH LEVEL CROSSES THE ZONE, PROBLEM WEAPON PROC'S AND HE BATTLES QUITE NASTLY ALLMOST FINISHING ME OFF! JUST A WARNING ABOUT THE FUN OF THIS BLADE
Don't use all CAPS it is stupid This sword rock, use it with a obsidian shard or a DH yak and ya do massive damage and can back up and heal when need be Just my say
Is it me or does alot of ranger weapon looks the same? I have a dragon horn yak, an icyblade, and this ebony bladed sword and they have this gay looking graphic. Why cant it look different?? I mean it's ranger only, so it should have something special to it...ohwell I guess Verant don't want to slow up the game anymore w/ all the polygons they use in this game. I guess I can understand that from a programming aspect.
But overall this weapon is nice. I don't really use it often cuz I fear kite too much..hehe. But I can see why its around 800pp. Ensaring roots is an awesome proc that can save your life in battles. When it proc just stand back and heal yourself, med, or nuke away. Don't let the 7dmg/24 delay deceive you. If this was a 7dmg/21 delay..this weapon would cost atleast 2k.
I'm cursed too -- my bag of goodies is a DH Yak, Blackened Alloy ******* Sword, Blackened Alloy Longsword, and this. The BABS and the DH look identical, as do the BALS and this. I can never tell which one I'm equiping. I don't really care if it looks cool on my character, I just wish I could tell them apart in the inventory screen without click and hold.
im a 40 ranger and im duel wielding this and crystallized sword...i do like the proc (btw it does 50dmg proc and root), but the main dmg kind of stinks...if they made the dly a little bit better, like 22 or 21 i would actually like this sword more, but for now it is fine until i can find something better. just my 2cp
Here is the big picture. If you are trying to get the SSoM, you are better off killing the Ghoul Messenger in West Karana and giving the map from it's corpse to Morin Shadowsbane in Kithicor Forest, who then gives you the Short Sword of Morin. It has some nice stat adds. You should be able to do this solo (make magic arrows and snare kite it around... it is worth the effort) around 27th - 30th level (about the time you start questing for your Ivy armor, sooner if you have good help).
Once you can actually get the drop from the Patriarch in LGuk, you should already have the SSoM, no need to turn it in. If you buy it, by the time you have scraped up the cash for one you should have gotten the map for the SSoM. Either way, don't turn in the EBS to get the SSoM. It is a waste of a GOOD weapon.

I'm currently using a ebony(prim) and a whip of strangulation(offhand) and it's the greatest combo for my level(29). The whip has a choke proc that does 20dd, -7str, 7agi, and a 60dot for 30sec. That's 80pts of damage. I get around 3-6 procs every battle for my weapons. Ensaring roots does about 37dd and root. That's alot of damage from both of these procs together(my dex is 101 by the way) So when the sword procs, you can stay away and heal yourself, med or blast that sucker. Don't do this if it's a caster though. Icetooth is strong, but it's common as dirt. Everyone and their mom has one. Also it sucks when you start to get your attack bonus for your prim weapon. Be unique, get this ebony. Trust me on this one =)

The Ebony blade is awesome. I just picked one up on Quellious for 200 PP. If you see one for sale and you are a ranger, I definitely recommend picking one up. Once I get a few more levels under my belt, I am on my way there to get another one.
Keep this weapon, it is better than SSoM by far. If you are in a situation where you don't want a root proc, then buy some junk weapon to switch with. 6/22 isn't all that great.
hey, notice the fact that this is NOT lore dual wielding these suckas would rock you'd have your target constantly rooted although root is not the best thing while chasing down a running MOB (monster of broadway!)
I have one of these, bought it for 300pp on Rodcet. I normally use a SSoY and Icetooth's Claws combination, but I keep this in my pack for solo'ing.
The damage on the Ebony Blade is decent, but its the proc that makes it shine. With Rangers now having Panic Animal at level 22, this is a great weapon to use when fear kiting animals. Granted, when the Root procs, a feared mob will turn and fight, but thats when you back away and bow/nuke it. The cool thing is, once the root breaks, if the mob is still feared, it runs. Once you get your timing down with snare/fear/DOT/root/nuke, you'll be whacking even con'd mobs (animals only) with no problems.
Id recommend getting one of these if you happen to be in Guk or is auctioned for 300 or less, but whatever you do, dont turn it in for a SSoM. It has more value to a Ranger because of the proc, in my opinion.
ok before the patch i hated this sword cause the root isn't that great and it broke snare. Now that the patch is fixed i love this sword. I snare attack if it gets rooted i back of and blast when root fails back into melee till it procs again. Makes soloing easier for my poor ranger arms.
He is referring to the Short Sword of Morin Quest. Give it to the multisexual Ranger Morin and get his/her fine sword. And its the same sword as the one you get thru the ghoul messenger part of this quest. ~Happy Trails~
Yep, it is no drop. Dont hand your ebony blade in, rather go kill the Gm, that way you can dual wield the ssom and the ebony blade. Its kinda nice to have 2 ranger only blades. Besides, later on you can sell the ebony blade.
