Maybe it is on adventure points. I did with my 38 ranger today and got miraguls a.k.a. staff of a very young adventurer. I had done less than 20 adventures

They made this as a thank-you for 5 years of EQ. It depends on the *age* of your character. When you made your char back at 1999 you get the best firework.

I received a Staff of Endless Adventure (Tormax Candle)upon completing the quest with my Vah Shir Beastlord, who is Luclin era all the way, so the time frames don't seem to compute just right.

Solusek sparkler is the Ro effect version.
My FV rogue can now duel wield the Solusek sparkler (that she quested) with the Miragul rocket (that my alt quested from my other account). One more reason to love my server, woot!

The staff you get is according to when your character was made. If you were made in the PoP era, I assume this is the staff you get.
Nagafen = 1999 = Old World
Trakanon = 2000 = Kunark
Tormax = 2001 = Velious
Ro = 2002 = PoP
Miragul = 2003 = LDoN
This is my best guess so far. Five years, five staves. I'll update if needed.

From my understanding it is dependant on what era of the game your character was started in or maybie it was when the account was activated
I got this one and I wish I had a different one... this effect only seems to have 2 shots instead of 3... not sure why in fact it may just be a glitch in the TGAs or something but I only shoot 2 where most of the others shoot 3 =(

The type of staff you recieve seems to have something to do with level somehow. It could be adventure points or AA points as well. My GF's enchanter at 63, 20 AA, and a few hundred adventure points got the Trak Tail version. I am at 65, 114 AA, and about 9k adventure points and got the Nagafen version.

Only thing that determines which one you get is when your character was started. If your character was started around march 1999 to march 2000 you get the nagafen one, march 2000 to march 2001 you get the trak one, etc.
For example, on this current paladin that I created in december 2000 (level 65 180 aa, 250 days played, 13k+ adventure points) I received the trakanon one.
Every person that I personally know that has done the quest has gotten a reward that is in sync with that presumption.

Where did you turn it in, and what races were you?
I'm a troll and she's a dark elf. We did it in Neriak right at the zone in.
And yeah, the people are right. It does seem to be about when you created you character instead of anything else. A friend who's also 65 with around the same AA etc. got the Tormax one.
