While ae kiting often I need to charm adds.
I never swap instrument for that and still everything works very well for me.

Prior to the Extended Notes nerf I was AE kiting a certain area with Lryan's Mystical Lute (2.5 mod) .. I could pull 8+ mobs and do 2650+ damage each tick twisting 4 songs (3 STRINGED, 1 brass) .. another 10% bonus to my songs from this Lute would have been NICE indeed.

Of course, none of this matters anymore. I'm just backing the statement in the original post: "This is the best purchasable lute for ae kiting."

You missed what he was referring to, kniedzw. He said it was great because INT affects mana pool. The fact that this has 15 INT and 35 mana means that the mana pool for swarming is higher, he didn't say anthing about the regen of said mana.

That being said, anyone know the modifier to string on this lute?

Anyone who doesn't have the plane of water lute or the High Risk Mistmoore Catacombs lute should get this as it's the 2nd best mod in game to date. Only 510 pts in EC. With IM4, AT 3 and this bad boy I heal about 70 hps a tick with Chorus of Marr.

As of post, these are the top lutes in the game

Orcish Lute of Singing = 2.1 mod or 21%
Lute of the Howler = 2.2 mod or 22% primary
Lyendlln's Lute = 2.4 mod or 24% secondary
Lyran's Mystical Lute = 2.5 mod or 25% primary OR secondary
Rujarkian Lute of Battle = 2.6 mod or 26% + can be equipped in primary OR secondary
Vampire's Lute of Bone = 2.6 mod or 26% primary only
Lute of Flowing Water = 3.4 mod or 34%

Best non instrument mod items in game

Your modifier percentages are wrong.

String mod of 3.4 is not 34% but 340% of base.
A modifier of 1 is base, 100%.
A modifier of 2 is double base, 200%
So a song that has a base of say (for numbers only) 100Damage per tick is going to do the following...

Mod 1.0 = 100
Mod 1.5 = 150
Mod 2.0 = 200
Mod 2.6 = 260
Mod 3.4 = 340

Bard epic is mod of 80 this means it can boost a song that does 100 damage to 180.

Mod on this is 2.6 .
only .2 more then orcish however being primary it allows for another weapon such as battle drummers to be held. An obviously nice lute. Hope that helps.

Orcish is not primary equipable anyway.

Stringed modifiers only affect the hit point component of the song. Moreover, bards don't actually gain any benefit from spell-based mana regen. Only Flowing Thought (and FT-like item effects) and Mental Clarity affect bardic mana regen.

Don't get me wrong. It's a nice item, but it's not useful for what you think it's useful for.

um, while the charms do use mana, they are neither string based(they are actually wind based, just like invis), nor do they have hit point components, so I don't see how this would help while swarming...and as stated above, I don't see any mention of regenerating the mana...you can still swarm for quite a while on yer initial pool(could do a few rounds of the nightstalkers in PoN when I was 51 and didn't have FT/MC)
just for completeness Denon's Desperate Dirge is the other song that uses mana, but that song is so rarely used...

THe point of this is For AE kiting...not swarm/charm kiting. Prior to the nerf on extended notes ect. bards could ae dot kite large numbers of mobs for incredible exp....many ae dots use string.
