Vs. Bard duel item
# Oct 05 2003 at 3:40 AM Rating: Decent
Book's clickie is obsolete but it is a vital tool when fighting Bards on PvP or duel. You see, if you are taking damage a Bard -cannot- charm you. This being an insta-clicky makes it a duel-Bard's worst fear. Now all you have to do is make sure you fight them indoor and in a small area so that they can't go OOR and you're set. As for any other useful applications for this book .... *crickets* ....*2 mins later* .... *4 mins later* ... /shrug Makes a nice particle spam if mass-clicked lol.

Before the flames begin, am well aware it is a necro only item, however that only prevents it from being *equipped*

Others have posted here saying it -can- cast from inventory... (would be handy if say, a Wiz could use this from inventory)

Just wondering if anyone had bothered to try Quest just to see? If no response from someone who has actually tried, I may devote the time myself and add my results.

Did this quest today with a 56 shammy, had heard it clicks from inventory so took the risk of wasting 4 hours. end result was it cannot be used by my class or deity, oh well worth the try just in case it turned out to be a hidden caster gem, too bad
uses?
# Feb 02 2003 at 11:29 PM Rating: Default
hey, i was just wondering what makes this book so useful? everyone here is saying they love it, but isn't all it doing freeing up a spell slot? allure of death costs like 5 mana, and once you get the next upgrade in this line wouldn't it become worthless?
RE: uses?
# Feb 24 2003 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
Not useless.. There are times when even I, at lvl 55, still use mine... Mainly, when you are soloing, and you are low on life, and low on mana you can use this item and get back your mana faster then normal and with regen2 with AA skills you even end up gaining a HP or two (I don't remember) each tick while sitting.. So no, there is not a HUGE ammount of use for this, but there are times in which it is usefull... Directly after a rez is also a time in when I use it...

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 14 2002 at 1:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I spent 16 hours straight camping the shadowed men in WC and never did a book drop. I tried giving the necro some weapons and he just returns them saying "Sorry, I dont need this". I tried the shadowed men in Lavastorm the next day for 8 hours and no book. I tried the shadowed men in Innothule for 8 hours and no luck. Lastly, I tried the shadowed men in Lesser Faydark and after 12 hours..... no luck.

Its 4mana for 8hp you dont regen health with the spell
RE: Effect
# Sep 20 2003 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
When Adida said the he/she gets more health with the spell, it was because of AA. You can get AA abilities to increase your HP regeneration, so, if your natural HP regeneration is more than 4 hp per tick, then you will lose 4hp a tick and gain 8 mana, but also regen some hp at the same time. So, if you regen 6 hp a tick, 4 of it turns into 8 mana, every tick you would gain 2 hp and 8 mana (not counting meditation skill). Pretty handy, but only works if you have AA skills (or if you have Regen cast on you).

You have the equation back-to-front. The effect converts 8 hit points into 4 mana.

This item would be great combined with some items like:

Zlandicar's Heart

Robe of Abrogation

Orb of Lost Souls

Frost-Covered Cape

what has changed
# Jun 14 2002 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
I want to know what has changed I have had this book for a long time. I just noticed today that it has been updated and I cannot get on my account at the moment so I cannot see for myself. I just want to know if anyone knows what has been updated with it because I hate when they updated 100+ items and they post the old info on it with no updates listed. Oh well any info will help if you could thanks :).

Still use this
# Apr 16 2002 at 3:16 PM Rating: Default
This is still one of my prized possessions. I quested it at 37 when I could first single pull the shadowmen. I died twice training the wizard away so I could camp the mage in rathe. At level
54 with regen3, I gain 2hp per tick sitting with allure on. Mana regain nothing compared to lich, but after a rez or a tough fight when you dont have the hp to support lich, this is better than sitting for sure. Also when I am traveling, I'll click on allure and still get the mana regen, lose about a 3/4th bulb of life over the spell duration standing, but 4 mana per tick while running errands is great =). Also great for medding while fd; kill lich, hit allure just before fd. This book stays in my inv right next to my Jboots and probably will well into 60.

I do have a question; do any non-necros have this item and does it work from inventory? I was thinking about questing one for my wizard =)

Ok, so I know she melee's for 117, nukes like a normal 30 mage, her friend (Eldreth, a wiz) nukes like a 49wiz (w/ Ice Comet?) and melee's for 90.

My question is, does Cyanelle have the HIT POINTS of a level 30 mage? Which would be 500-600?

Basically I ask this because I have a level 60 wiz and 55 dru friend who are willing to help me - provided I can get all the info needed for this kill (seems to be the toughest - druid and I invised to Icy Goblin in Permafrost...but he didnt have the book that time we killed him)

So, if 60wiz pulls with a big nuke, closely followed by a 55druid nuke and then followed by a 43war melee (prolly will open with Oggok Cleaver for MASS opening dmg...hopefully enough to kill) - can we take her down easy?
After she dies, i plan on logging my war and gettin on necro to loot book from corpse...

Can it be done? Me thinks so...but I just need some more input.

EDIT:
Ok last post was made going off of friends info, just killed her last night and heres the low down... (this is with my 56 ranger btw, to MQ it for necro)

Buffed up for war before doing this, heard too much about her eating people. around 2200hp 975ac and all the resistance buffs i could throw on. (magic and fire are all that matter since she's a mage, got those to around 120ish) The rogue epic guy was not in the building thank god, i think he's been moved outside the tower now.
Pulled with cancel magic (nasty mage DS) for a couple shots then layed in with melee. She does hit hard, in the 100ish area (doubles) but she tries to cast a lot, so proper resists will make or break you. All in all, the fight lasted about 30 seconds, her HP is no where equal to her attack power, and I was left with 1700 / 2204. Not that hard of a fight, should be easier as a pet class.
As far as a 60 wizard helping, If the 60 wizard can't drop this mage in 1 nuke, your wizard has issues ;)

Necro lvl 20 spell

---------------------------

Cast time 3seconds
Recast time 5seconds

Self: Increase Mana (4)
Self: Increase Hit Points (8)

------------------------------------------------

don't turn you into any thing. that is a higher end spell

and yes this is a nice spell BUT IS NOT good for a lvl's 1 to 5 because it drawns to much HP and you would have to take it off alot or die that is why thay give it to you when you have a little HP :)

have fun and be safe
Caster in Lake Rathe
# Dec 20 2001 at 11:15 PM Rating: Default
I took on this caster in Lake Rathe. I'm level 40 and used my 39th lvl pet. I buffed it up with Spirit Armor and Augment Death. Also used Greater Sheilding and Spirit Armor on myself. She conned green to me. She hit me once for 108. Pet came to my aid and held her aggro while I cast Dooming Darkness, Scourge, Venom of the Snake, and Shock of Poison about 3 times. She didn't last long at all. Her pet was rooting and hitting my pet, but never killed it. She was very easy for me. Being level 40, I'm not sure how much use the Words of Darkness will be for me, but can always sell it. Now off to do the rest of the quest...

it's nodrop

Max out your int in other slots though and put this on, +45 mana is good. At level 45, 45 mana is the same as 10 int. At 23 it's almost 20 int, at 11, it's about 40 int.

the normal lvl 20 Allure of Death that you would cast sucks but I got this book the other day and I can tell you that this is a jacked up version of it I am at lvl 40 with 200 constant intellegence and almost 200 in mana add items (no I am not twinked I just sat in EC alot and made deals) and when I cast Allure of Death from this UBER book the effects will closely compare with Call of Bones and will take like half the life away anyone who says this book is not worth DOES not have it and will prolly never get it trust me I speak from experience this book is a must have for a necro at any lvl my 51 Necro friend still uses the effect everyday and I am sure he has alot more mana than me well just get one and see very very wise choice though if you ask me..

Just so everyone Knows Since Epics have been put in place The lady in Lake rathe is now NExt to a guy for the rouge Epic quest nukes for 510 or so. Yet again Necros get the shaft ...
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 24 2001 at 11:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ROFL, necros don't get shafted, CLERICS get shafted. First, they are the MOST boring class in the game to play. Second, their epic is the most difficult to acquire, not because of the mobs, but because of RAGEFIRE. Nope, only time I've ever seen a necro get the shaft was when he tried to take on an NPC necro.
Undercon
# Sep 17 2001 at 8:33 PM Rating: Default
I just want to confirm for everyone that these casters are a gross undercon, I aggroed them with my 45 warrior, and they destroyed me in like 10 seconds. They were hitting for 100+, and throwing in nukes here and there that also maxxed just above 100. Both of them conned green to me, but I got maybe 1/4 health off of the female caster before I died.

I have been hunting the Shadowmen for a week now and I have yet to get the book to drop. I read that if I gave the necro shadowmen 2 rusty weapons it would drop the book. I have given them the rusties every time and still no book. Am I doing something wrong? I give them both at the same time. Should I give them one at a time? Should I only give one?

I read somplace that after giving the weapons it was duel wielding them. Everytime I have given the weapons it only showed one weapon. I have also read that you can give them their shadow weapons also. Is this one true? If so it will make my life easier.

Could somone please verify or deny what I have read about giving the necro shadowmen 2 weapons to get them to "always" drop the book?

Thanks

Sadly, after putting in 44 hours total so far into camping this book I dont want to log on my necro anymore. If I give up it just sticks like a thorn in my side, and I refuse to waste more time killing the same group of guys over and over and over and over and...... ad nausium. This quest has sucked the fun out of the game and made me dislike my necro :( Oh well, chanters are fun.

Sadly, this is gonna be way too late to help you, Kuzak...

I did the first part of this a coupla weeks ago, while collecting the shadowed items for the Boots and gloves quests. I got a book pretty quickly, after giving the necro weapons. (I actually gave him shadowed weapons, dropped by his pals!)

i He will only show one weapon wielded.
ii You get both the weapons back, in his corpse, when you kill him.

The weapons thing isn't an 'every time' thing. I was carrying a scythe and sword and thought I'd give it a go, having killed about ten shadowed men and no book. The first and second times, there was still no book. The third time, the book was there.

This could be conincidence and I have no serial testing, to collaborate this one way of the other. (I WILL be hunting shadowed men again sometime soon'ish and will maybe be able to test it again. (Will post on that when it happens.))

I'd be inclined to say that, assuming you have a level 40+, or wolfform to hand the weapons in, it's worth trying. Considering that it costs nothing to hand over shadowed weapons, what do ya have to lose?

Just got my havestor today (Thanks to guild) and I'm looking at getting the robe, and the book from Sol Ro. Would someone mind explaining the effect to me? It looks like the always-on effect on the harvestor. If so, that would be kinda bad for me. Anyone who actually *HAS* the item want to comment?

Thanks,

a) The Harvester gives See Invis, and is always on.

b) This is right clickable Allure of Death, our 1st health for mana spell.

FYI; Allure of Death has a 3 second casting time, and costs 5 mana. It's typically done between battles, to help with downtime. This item MIGHT be useable by a necro pre-level 20, that would increase its usefulness. Otherwise... well, my equipment gets me over 200 int, but not if I dequip a handslot item.

FYI
Allure of Death is the SECOND necro mana regen spell, 8hp for 4mana. This can also be used in the inventory, so theres no need to drop a hand slot item.

the pirate from heck you refer to is named Frankel the Pirate. He doubles for 177. a guildmate (back when our guild was young) was celebrating his birthday in sro by the docks and the entire guild was there getting drunk off our butts... well long story short we all decided to attack and kill him when he was blue to me at thirty-something. well the guild tank dropped in mere seconds and said something like "dead men tell no tales" and made a beline straight for me since i had tashed him. *sigh* well to make a long story short, i never did get that rez.

I JUST killed the mage in Lake Rathe today. She conned green to me at lvl 42. At first I tried to take her with 40% mana and no pet. Big mistake. Her pet rooted me and she was hitting me constantly for 117. She NEVER missed. My AGI is 118 and usually, i only get hit 30% of the time. This was much different! So, after getting a TP from OT back to NK and getting my corpse, i decided to get FOM, buffs and a pet. This time I feared her pet, sent my pet to beat on her. She ignored my pet and went for me. I couldnt get her off, so I ran. I had SOW, but she blast me and it took down 2 bubs of HP. My HP at the time was a little over 800. So, i cast harmshield and run like heck. She kept trying to blast on me when i was levitated running over water with a bub of health. Luckly, as soon as harmshield wore off, I got Feign Death off. She FINALLY went after my pet who was beating on her the whole time and it also died in seconds. I then stood and cast gate back to rathe mountains and logged. A few hours later, i logged back on and my lvl 45 nec friend was on. When I told him this, he laughed. But he said hed help me anyway. He engulfed her in darkness and I feared the pet. Seconds after, she was on my friend and his life was dropping very quickly. I feared her as he was unconcious on the ground. Then i VoS, Scourge and life tapped her to death. In return, I got NO EXP, 2pp and the Book of Darkness. After talking to many people, I found that she is lvl 25! So, a lesson to us all, even though a mob may con green, BE CAREFUL!
That can't be right....
# Feb 07 2001 at 4:42 PM Rating: Default
I *solo'd* these two in Lake Rathe as a level 29 Necro. I ended the fight with about 1/3 life left.

Thw Wizard is lower level than the Mage; 2 or 3 good level 29 nukes will take care of him. Send your pet against the mage right off the bat and you should be ok...
RE: That can't be right....
# Feb 24 2003 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Well done. I killed them at lvl 30 solo myself.. Trick is to FD pull the mage outside.. Its not easy when you fighting casters.. but can be done.. Cast your best DoT on Mage and pray it sticks.. she will start casting on you.. and you have to wait for it to land.. as soon as it does.. FD the mage will be partly out of the building (you better hope) by this time.. and DoT eatting at her life.. if she is far enough out of the building.. stand up and send pet in on her, fear her pet and Lifetap her to regain your HPs from her nuke that you just ate... If you do it right you can kill her easy, you do it wrong, you gunna die.... Took me two attempts to get the timing down right and to get her far enough out of the building, but item is well worth it...

I finished this part of the quest last night. I had a level 45 Ranager and a Level 43 wizard help me out. The mage conned even to me at 22! She was hitting for over 90 a swing. However with all 3 of us hitting her she went down fast. I don't see how its possible for a level 22 mob to hit like this. She hits harder than specters do. Think theres so kind of error.
RE: That can't be right....
# Mar 20 2001 at 6:39 PM Rating: Default
I doubt. I think it is Verant's idea of being 'evil'. They want you to go and try to kill something that is green to you and find out that it hits about as hard as your average level 37 mob.
RE: That can't be right....
# Apr 08 2001 at 3:29 AM Rating: Default
The reason, as it was explained to me, for the mobs being a hideously gross undercon is an ineffective way for Verant to control item rarity. It makes it annoying, to say the least, but not a very effective method.
