Book Text:

For the ear of the Emperor
I write in my own blood,
accepting my death as the
seal for this testament.
The ceremony performed on
the Vah Shir captive has
failed. Our attempt to
leash the divine, to merge
mortal flesh with the power
of the gods has gone awry.
All that is widely known is
that both the captive and
his masters perished in a
mistaken spell. The truth
is that the captive
transcended somehow,
consuming many of your
loyal servants with his
newfound powers. Our
agents seek him, but there
is little hope that he will
be found. He has escaped
and we have failed. We bow
before you to accept your

judgment. We cannot carry
out your command, dread
Emperor. A god cannot be
made.

It figures that Khati Sha (boss mob in AC) was actually a Vah Shir. The Shissar captured him and performed weird rituals on him, for some reason trying to make him into a god at the demand of Emperor Ssraeshza. This failed, Khati Sha was born, tore a swath thru the Shissar on his way out, and took up hold in AC.

Maybe, maybe not. :) Anyone have any lore to add to/correct this?

From Sexouri:

He [Khati Sha] was once the great Hero of Shar Vahl. He went out to discover this new world known as Luclin. During his adventures he ran across the grimlings as well as the snake people known as the Shissar. The Shissar captured him and did an experiment on him to try to make him into a God to govern over the growning threat of the Grimlings. The experiment went horribly wrong and he was morphed into the creature pictured without any of his prior memories. Having found the Grimlings he used his new powers (which were given to him during the experiment) to give the Grimlings thought. For that they worship him as their God.

The Shissars refered to themselves in Kunarkian times as gods. After the greenmist drove them to Luclin, the Emperor forced the shissar to use what remained of their arcane knowledge (perhaps Zebuxoruk's teachings) to transform him into a true god.

No. Shissar believe themselves to be gods for they are immortal (undead), all knowing (their knowledge matches the one of the dragons) and can create life (golems). Emperor Ssraeshza is called "The Slayer of Gods" (same as Vyzh'dra who was banished for rivaling Ssraeshza and being utterly insane) anyway he mostly rests in stasis, using his golem as "remote speaker".
