I am wondering the impact of the 50fireDD or the 75coldDD augments on this weapon. With its fast speed each hit will activate a chance to process. I am wondering if this weapon is still outdated or possibly brought back thanks to these augments.
I do beleive, but could be wrong however, that this is now one of the fastest weapons in the game that can be equipped in main hand.
Now, there is alot of debate on if there is a delay cap of 10. With my experience in the game, and with all I've read, I beleive this is false. Why would there be? Sure there's a haste cap, so why bother capping delay on weaponry?
Taking that into consideration, this weapon has ALOT of potential, specifically post 50 where the damage bonus shines. With item haste of approx. 40 percent and the best caster haste, this thing would hit FAST, and that's alot of damage bonus being applied. Keep in mind that damage bonus is applied with each base hit of the weapon itself, and not added to the damage / delay. ( meaning if damage bonus is 10, it does not make it a 15/14 )
The ratio might be horrible, but the fact that it's so fast, would make it an ideal main hand weapon. I'm looking forward to getting my ranger one of these so I can parse it and do some tests on various mobs with different AC.
Minimum delay is 1. The reason people say 10 is that parsers can't show a delay below 10 since the timestamps on the events only have a resolution of 1 second (10 delay = 1 second).
Went on my first Hate Raid today. Very early into the raid I win the roll on Thorny Vine Boots, (there were only 3 rangers). 6 hours, and about 20 rats later, the whip drops! Since I'd already gotten the boots, I couldn't loot the whip :(. The NEXT rat we pull also drops a whip! The other ranger passed on it, so I'm now the proud owner of a Revultant Whip!
Now, my problem is, what do I combine it with, my Lammy or my Centi LS? I solo or partner quite often still, so aggro is not a concern.
If you decide to use the whip, I would say put it in your primary hand and use you Centi LS in the secondary slot. Mainly because the Centi has a higher damage rating than the Lammy. From what I understand, your damage bonus only applies to the weapon in your primary slot (Someone please correct me if I am wrong). So I would keep heavy hitters (i.e. high damage rating) in the off hand, and put the low delay weapon in your prime hand. This is taking into account that you have no concern over agro. Even if agro was an issue, there are other ways to deal with it, so I would put the low delay weapon in my primary hand anyways... but that's for another post. Honestly though, I think your Lammy would be more effective for damage output than that whip.
P.S. Thory Vine Boots drop in the Plane of Fear. So I assume you won Boots of the Untamed?
Thorny vine boots drop in Hate from haunted chest on the first floor. Got a pair from them last year. Boots of the Untamed drop from mobs on the second floor of Hate.
I recently got this whip in hate, but since I already had a lupine dagger and centi LS I figured this would be junk. I mean, who would use a 5/14 weapon which has a ratio of just less than three when you have a 9/18 with a ratio of 2? You lose 4 dmg for 4 delay. But a good friend of mine who used one until he bought himself a 10/17 axe from CT said that it really dishes out better damage. So I decided to test this. I found a good log parser, name is Eqparse, and headed out to DL. I wanted an easy fight that I could make it through using no spells, so I buffed and went out with my Lupine dagger in the mainhad and found a light blue stonegazer cockatrice (lvl 51 now, most are green.) I hit /log as soon as I started swinging and turned it off as soon as it died. I repeated this with the whip in the main hand, and parsed both logs (After the first time I took the log, saved it to a seperate file, and erased the log so I could parse the logs of the different weapons seperately.) With the lupine dagger and centi LS I had a DPS of 23.92. I was surprised when I saw that with the revultant whip and centi my DPS was 27.14. That's a difference of almost 15 percent. This whip is clearly a better damage dealer 50+, perhaps not at lower levels when the damage bonus is less. The only problem that arises is aggro, but it's not that much worse than using an 18 delay weapon. A good jolt here and there almost always keeps the aggro off of me.
ATM im using a Jade Mace 9,18 1hb and a jagged blade of mourning 13,25 10dex svmagic (working on club of the ice ocean) but this would be nice in a group where ur the mt and have a rogue in the group or some one who causes high agro 14delay+SCHW u will not stop swinging(this is probably why warriors can't use)
Is this that good a weapon? How much would a high 40s ranger with str around 130 hit for with it in primary? Would I ever consider putting this in offhand?
Well I'm a 52 Ranger and I got this last nite on a Hate raid. When I'm self buffed and ready to rock this weapon was hitting for 25 to 30 Very Very often Plus our self proc man you do some damage. Str is around 156. with the damage bouns for me it makes this weapon a 14 damage with a 14 delay. I using Whip or Flux axe in main hand and a Centi LS in off.
At high 40s, you'd do better with a Lamentation, but post 50, when your damage bonus increases in main-hand, this starts to really outshine a lot of other weapons, especially with Item and Spell haste up.
As for offhand... no, you wouldn't want this there at all. Mainhand you want speed, to take full advantage of the main-hand Damage bonus, Offhand you want Ratio, for the most damage in a given time period. This weapon rocks mainhand, its not that much better than a SSoY offhand.
Well, I just attended my first Planar raid with my Guild (great buncha peeps, by the way) and lucked out big time! Just as I was getting ready to get a punt out to log off and come to work, Rat popped. We killed it and it dropped the whip!! Since I was the only Ranger in attendance for this one, I got it. Nice piece of gear to start stacking stats with. I think i am going to see how it does in a solo fight before I put it away in the bank :).
Any recommendations on what I should pair it with, and in which hand? Currently have a Wurmy, DHY, and EBS.
On a side note, the entry room is GREAT exp. I was grouped with alot of mid to upper 50's people, and still pulled a full yellow in 3 hours, even sharing with a second group of similar make-up. I am looking forward to spending more time in the zone.
Main hand weapon, all the way. With the damage bonus you get in the main hand and the velocity of this whip, your damage output will increase tremendously (versus a wurmslayer, for exemple).
It's a poor weapon in the offhand so if you really have an uber weapon in main hand, don't bother with this whip and throw it away...
Anyone know the drop rate off the Revultant Rats for this whip? I'm guessing 1/10, or around there, right? I want one bad, but getting one to drop is a pain, especially when it's taking forever to get to the 2nd level in Hate, since more rats are on 2nd lvl, there's a better chance of it dropping.
Did hate for about 10 hours today. Did a lot of rats, and there were people logged on earlier than I that were killing rats etc long before I got there. Not sure how many rats we killed, but it was well into the 30s or more easily. One dropped total on the day, I lost the roll. We pretty much were taking out rats as fast as they popped, as they are easy mobs in that zone, and can drop blue diamonds etc. No dice, will be trying again tomorrow, can't wait to get this and try out doing some soloing. Combined even with just item haste this is a mean little whip, watched the ranger that won it using it. Considering the fact that not tons of stuff drops for rangers in hate (armor RARELY, weap off of Inny, and this) I'm hoping to be there for the roll tomorrow.
This thing would be beyond AWESOME with like Celerity or Swift Like the Wind on you think about it, Celerity is approx 50% haste that would make this a 4dmg 7del weapon! With SLTW it would be like a 5 or 6del! think about it talk about mass amounts of dmg!
Sigh your a moron.......i was thinking of not telling you this but I hope maybe you read this and realize that monks fists become 9/9 with max haste.....so there goes your dumb theory of max dly being 10.....its been proven time and time again....please go live in the woods somewhere and grow coffee and dont bother society
would have an effective delay of 9 w/ 50% haste....
14/1.5(1 being the base damage you do with any weapon for calculating effective delay, and .5 being the decimal form of 50%) comes to 9.3(3 is repeating...but monks at monkly business been doin tests and it seems that the EQ engine can only support whole numbers...it doesn't round at all it just takes the only whole number it sees (ie if it were 9.7 or something it would still have an effective delay of 9)) and the end result is an effective delay of 9.....
i use the term effective delay because the delay is never actually changed...its just how we see it. haste is actually a damage modifier increasing damage not decreasing delay. You can see this in the performace and looking at the percentages....a 100% hatened item should be 0 delay if it were a direct delay reduction haste percent....and that can not happen as it would insta kill any thing...even the sleeper...but it isn't done that way...it is an increase in the amount of damage. you are normal running at 100% damage output..you are doing all the things possible to do damage by the auto attack swinging when ever it is you can swing determined by the delay. when you add haste it increases the damage...the FBSS being 21% haste is added to the base damage out put possible for you...so you are running at 121% damage potential. And at 200% damage potential(that being 100% max haste) you are doing twice the damage...which to us looks like the delay is halved....so by simply dividing the delay by our damage potential with our haste...we can see the effective delay of the weapon...that being what we see happening on screen.
kinda muddled but thats how it works....if you want to ask questions about it...go to the rangers glade...great people there lots of help...
I am using a FBSS, and I have to say, your explanation of delay/damage doesn't seem to translate well.
I am using a Wurmslayer in my primary and a Dragon Horn Ykesha in my offhand. Offhand seems to be somewhat independent of my primary hand because it will swing more often then my primary (I notice this because DHY is a Piercing rather than Slashing). Anyways, I have noticed that the Wurmie is swinging faster. Not doing more damge.
My perception is that Haste does not increase the weapon's ACTUAL damage. Just it's ability to deal out more damage in a given amount of time. Those of you who want to argue that the weapon does more damage rather than swings faster, fine. You say whatever makes you happy. You obviously aren't watching your damage output text. The Damage NEVER changes. The amount of swings you make in a specific time period, however, does.
When you talk about 100% or 200% or whatever, just remember to take whatever number you get for haste, divide it by 100 and add 1.0 to the result, THEN divide the delay by the result. THAT will be your actual hasted delay. The reduction will be the most obvious on large delay weapons. Small delay weapons have much smaller numbers to break down. Just remember you can't go lower than 1 (a fraction smaller than 1 would be zero and I don't think that would sit well with the game...).
Compare vehicle speeds. 60 mph (kph for those in the rest of the world 8P~)compared to 30. 60 is twice as fast, but it only covers the distance in half the time, not NO time. Haste works the same way.
If you want proof, I have a lovely little log parser I use that will show you since everything has date and time tagged onto it. I will go fight a Geonid, nice long fight so you can see definite results. I will make a different log file with parsed results for a specified length of time (say, 3 minutes?) for both hasted and non-hasted states. That should answer the question, shouldn't it? The hasted log should have more damage in it without swinging more often, since you attest that haste does not affect delay, but rather end result damage. I, however, suggest that the hasted log will have more swings in it, and as a result more damage because the MoB was hit more often.
You can also check this out for yourselves. The program is called EQParse. Works like a dream. Do a search on the web for it, you will find it. I'll come back and edit this from home later and put the website on it.
Actually, you have your haste calculated wrong. At 14 delay, this swings every 1.4 seconds, making it swing rougly 42 times a minute. 42 swings with 50% haste added on (21) = 63, or making it have a delay of about 1. Say you're at the haste cap, 85%, this weapon would have a delay of rougly 7.6.
heh my friend has this and a fbss. ya it is pretty damn fast 8) even without fbss it is pretty awesome. this is a reason to come to hate instead of fear even 8) unless u r the only ranger in the raid and have time to spare (muahaha that would b awesome)
----------------- EDITED I just got this bout an hour ago woot! its awesome :) - no fbss yet though hehe
