DW BP
# Jan 23 2002 at 3:25 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone Asking is this BP requires Jasper shouldn't be ever considering buying it or not even close to the level to get it.. 1pp per symbol is NOTHING at the you can afford or get this BP.. 1pp, most mobs drop 6pp or a gem worth 90pp at this stage in the game..
RE: DW BP
# Mar 18 2002 at 6:01 PM Rating: Decent
In my opinion every pp counts<grin>

only takes a week or 2 of farming to make the pp to buy one.

Ya he is hella strong but now he can only last the length of time it takes a wizard to cast mana burn.

I've seen alot of people arguing over the relative merits of different BPs for Paladins. Not considering velious quest armor this BP is about as good as it get for a paladin. The only thing that compares is Righteous and its marginally better. This kicks the Valorium BP by a mile - 10 ac more on the deepwater translates to more like 15 ac when you put it on. Deepwater BP is so much better than a guardian BP (ac 22) they aren't even worth mentioning in the same breath. (While some other guardian pieces are more comparable to deepwater due to their stats, the BP is NOT comparable)

Mana free symbol is a huge bonus too if you don't have a cleric in your party, or many times a cleric won't symbol the party anyway. Paladin's don't get a better symbol until level 58 and I'd like to see the Paladin that has enough mana to symbol the whole party without having to med either during or right after. Even if you own righteous or a better velious BP its worth acquiring and carrying at all times just for the symbol. By the way, free symbol also equals mana free heals in between fights just like the helm does, only the heal is alot bigger.

Sure its hard to get, but you dont need to be in an uber guild to get on a Trak raid, and it is occasionally sold if you have the cash.

Sure you can get mana free heals but it wouldn't be entirely free. Jaspers cost about 8gp each, it could get expensive.
RE: Deepwater BP
# Dec 13 2001 at 6:46 PM Rating: Good
but does the effect use a reagent on this particular bp? ask your self that. shieldstorm does not cost anything to cast rune IV, so why would this?
RE: Deepwater BP
# Dec 29 2002 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
It does require a jasper componet to cast the spell off the BP. It's only mana free, not componet free.

Because shieldstorm's spell doesnt use a component maybe?

Deepwater hmmm...
# Aug 26 2001 at 1:17 AM Rating: Default
I will get right to the point I guess and try not to bunch up too many peps panties...heh. The armor is nice but overrated. The AC that it gives you is nice to have but unless you are one of the few that is lucky enough and I DO mean lucky enough to get a BP off of Trak in Seb, thats all that is nice about it.

The effects that it can cast are really a waste. By the time you can afford this armor or are high enough level to get it on you own, your own buffs will be far better, last longer and the mana that they use will be of no importance in the big picture of things. Fully buffing myself, I use about one third my full mana, keeping in mind that my wisdom isnt the best it could be cause I built this character to tank primarily, not to heal...as I hope most of you have done. I recover all or most of that in under 5 minutes or so and my buffs last for quite some time. A guess would be 20 to 30 minutes atleast.

The stun off the bracers is almost usless <for the earlier post> the cast time is tremdous, about 4 times that of your normal cast time on a similar stun and the stun only lasts for about 3 to 5 seconds. It is also resistable and intruptable just like a normal stun cast.

For those of you that will most certainly respond to this with the old saying that "AC is god"..pffftt..please. AC is nice and it is usefull for a tank type for certain, HOWEVER, to have alittle less AC <lets say 100 less for the sake of agrument> and have 100 points more in stats, especially your primary ones like Strength, Dexterity, Agil and Wisdom, is far more usefull. The AC diff will mean about a 5% decrease in damage during a battle with a blue mob, noticeable but nothing to brag about. While the stats will mean you will not only hit more often but will deal more damage in each blow <this applies to Stregth Dexterity and Agility> and the wisdom will mean more mana, which is nice to have to stun with or root. The saves will mean more resists against the damaging spells being cast at you. The differance in your characters combat preformance will be very noticeable. In other words, the stats and the AC are not an even trade off.

If you try to tank it like a warrior...heh...unless you got some really great armor and stats and the warrior in the group is very very average for his class, you will never tank it as well..never. Getting agro btw isnt all there is to tanking beyond popular belief, so, dont go off with the "paladins can out taunt a warrior any day thing", this is a given.

All in all you wont even be using your abilities to there fullest either with a pure tank stratagy.

I have got both...a almost full suit of Deepwater and a full suit of Guardian <skyshrine armor>..both are compairable to each other...just on different ends of the point. Deepwater all AC and Guardian less AC but stats. The Guardian is better in the long run. Sure I get hit more and maybe just maybe the cleric has to hit me with a heal one more time in a battle if he is lucky but I take a mob down faster with the Guardian and all in all..thats what matters in the long run. Not to mention the resists are nice to have on the mobs that happen to cast on you. Especially when the casters are running out of mana trying to keep stuff mezzed, snared and charmed, while the high AC paladin is trying to "tank it". Keep the stats and drop ALITTLE AC..you will be happier...trust me.

Be safe all...good hunting.

*Deepwater (full suit)*

178 ac
18 str
17 agil
8 dex
10 wis
50 mana
50 hitpoints

49.50 weight

*Guardian armor (full suit)*

124 ac
23 str
34 stam (converts into something like 100 hp)
4 agil
9 wis
17 dex
10 chr
100 hitpoints
55 mana

+29 Sv. Magic
+35 Sv. Fire
+33 Sv. Cold
+12 Sv. Posion
+12 Sv. Disease

30.30 weight

*Effects from Deepwater armor*

Spirt Strength (+18 strength)
Symbol of Pizarn (+307 hitpoints)
Daring (+7ac +130hp)
Endure magic (+20 resist)
Soothe (10/40 lower agro)
Stun (4 sec stun)
Cancel magic (Dispell)

*Spells you will have*

Yaulp II (+20 stength)
Symbol of Pizarn (+307 hitpoints)
Valor (+13ac +200hitpoints)
Endure magic (+20 resist)
Calm (5/50 lower agro)
Holy might (6 sec stun)
Cancel magic (Dispell)

All the cast times on the Deepwater armor are like 3 to 5 times the normal cast time for the spell. With that in mind the bracers that all paladins so want will take about 6 seconds or alittle more to cast and they are interuptable like a normal cast. That would leave you standing infront of a creature that is pounding on you for 6 seconds or more hoping that he dosent interupt your casting so that you MAY stun him IF he dosen't resist your low level stun....ummm...ok...how about just casting Holy might, its the 30 mana stun you got that takes 2 seconds to cast and is of proper level for the mobs you are fighting so they don't resist it so often.

How about that helm that everyone wants so badly for the FREE heals...well lets see Daring off that helm takes like 10 seconds or so to cast, for 130 hitpoint heal. You would only use that if there were absoultly no other way to heal yourself and you had ALOT of time to kill to get the hitpoints back. Basically making it fairly useless.

Then of course there is the rarity of the Deepwater breastplate and legs....lots of luck.

Now if you went to Skyshrine and camped the courtyard you would get that FULL suit of Skyshine armor in about a week or two...with a group, not a guild raid. Give or take depending on the make up of the group and who else in the group wanted to loot pieces of it.

As far as the 1/3 mana to fully buff goes. What level are you first...that has alot to do with the mana pool you have. Also, my wisdom was slightly higher then 130 at 49th level. Should also be taken into consideration that I was talking about AC and HP buffs. The buffs that I normally ran around with, at that level, all the time where..Armor of Faith (150 mana), Valor (90 mana), Symbol of Pizarn (200 mana), Endure magic (40 mana) and Divine might (100 mana)...that's 580 mana total. I would guess that at 49th my mana pool was something closer to 1400 to 1500 or there abouts...so for me it was 1/3 or close of my mana. Valor of Marr "is" a buff but I didn't make it a habbit of running around with an attack haste buff on me at all times, so the 300 mana that it takes to put up I didn't take into account.

I also made the assumption that your paladin IS NOT twinked and is in a guild or hanging around players of LIKE LEVEL. That you are going to get a full suit of Deepwater or Skyshrine at 49th level. Keeping in mind that Trac is 65th and most people start doing Skyshrine in their high 40s early 50s or so. Getting a full suit of Deepwater by 49th though in my opinion is a pipe dream of the highest sort..unless you are twinked and/or very luckly.

Hello my noble friends
I wonder
I hear strange things concerning the fate of Deepwater.

Is it the best set of armor for palladins?

Well please my true brethern let me know so that a young pally has something to look forward to.

Until velious was released, this was the best set of armour a pally could look forward to. There may have been the odd piece that bettered the bracers say, or the boots, but overall the best complete set.

With the release of velious there is probably at least 5 full sets of armour that are better or of equal status.

Dude, if you want to go on uber raids get into an UBER GUILD. they each have different requirements to get in and most of the big ones have websites where you can read theres. While your in game just give a tell to someone in the guild you want to enter and ask what you need to do to join. And if this stuff was EASY to get there would be no point in leveling anymore, they cant make this stuff available to just anyone you know. Im acually glad its hard to get cause thats the kind of stuff I look forward to and keeps me playing day after day.
Whatever

Yeah i agree....it sucks that only uber guilds get a shot at this kinda stuff. Due to the fact i am in a small guild i will never get to try raids on mobs like trakanon.....verant only seems to cater for "Power Guilds" nowadays.

all u people who think that the valorium bp is better tha dwbp need to look at the stats again. the deepwater bp rocks so much better than the stupid valorium only things that r better than the valorium is 3 more str and easier to get, even then i would give up that for dwbp because u get an effect mana hp which would make up for the lose of 3 misly str

er, ah... no you didn't. This item cannot be camped. It drops off of Trakanon, the big bad poison dragon in Old Sebilis. Trak spawns once a week or so (not including patch days) and requires a large coordinated effort of 30+ people to kill. Once killed, he will drop one (or sometimes 2) class specific BPs.
