Think about it - if you group with a Shamy, they can max your Str and Dext with no problem since Shamy gets multiple, stacking Str and Dext buffs. So, just ignore those stats on the ring, cause they aren't going to help you at all. Now you have a ring that has some HP and sme AC. That's equivalent to a low quality crafted ring.

That's quite a generalization there... You are referring to Infusion of Spirit I believe. Not only do you need a shammy around but you need a lvl 49 or above and he must have IoS scribed. More than half of the Shamen at 49 dont have IoS; due to it's typical cost of 3k+ plat. For a ring thats free, it has very nice stats at the level you can get it. Even with IoS, you cant always max str and dex. Just because you can max them with your shammy-in-a-pocket doesn't mean that others wouldn't get good use from that ring.
As a shammy who does have IoS, has had it since 50 (got it for 150pp on a really good day in the bazaar), I have to say, unless you're the MT in my group, you're not getting it.
Why? First of all, it takes up six spell slots (IoS, Talisman, str/sta/dex/agi). Add a slot for KEI and a Virtue/Temp, plus a speed buff, and haste, that's a full 10 spell slots already used up... not much room for trash buffs or resists. Secondly, it takes up a lot of mana to cast all those buffs on one person, 200 for ios, 100 for the 4 stat buffs, plus whatever it is for the talisman/haste... it comes out to significantly more than just popping a HoS/FoS on every member of your group, and I'm talking time AND mana.
True, IoS is a rare spell in the first place, but with the set of six, plus the shammy self-buff (rage), I can max all my melee stats aside from STA and AGI. It's truely sad to sit in burning woods and be able to tank better than a fully buffed paladin... for the paladin, at least.
As for the ring, not bad... there are better, but keep in mind, not everyone has multiple 60+ chars that they can farm plat with, or shammies readily available to buff you out the ying yang. This is a good, cheap alternitive.
Actually the 200 mana cost for IoS compared to 425 for HoS makes it a much nicer spell for casting on pure casters you are grouped with. It stacks with their own shielding buffs and you don't burn up as much mana as HoS would. Both my shaman have it and I even have primal essence that I got for 500 plat in bazaar. IoS will stack with higher level talismans when you get them which is the best part about it. If my sk or warrior was grouping with a shaman that wouldn't cast IoS on pure casters in the group, I'd boot his *** out and log one of my shaman on the other computer and drive on.
being a shaman of 52nd level. i have this spell, i paied 2k for it in the baz at 49th level and have NEVER scribed HoS since. as for taking up spell slots.. well now thats just lazy. thats why they give you the option to save spell sets. i have one just for buffs, one for soloing, one for normal use.
infusion is my favorite spell so far because it stacks with a lot of things.
When he said spell slots he ment buff slots. You know you are only aloud a certain amount of buffs on a single charatcer.. I love when I get a kazzilion buffs, and die because a celestial heal didn't stick... Think about it.
Shiirkhan 62 shammy (IoS included) (got it free from quest) hehe
I got mine yesterday. After I got the 3 troll heads, I invised and went to Neriak. The Correspondant cons dubious to all, even a Woodelf Ranger.
I un-invised and hailed him, said the magic words and got my bag. Then I combined the 3 troll heads in the bag and gave it to him. Got some exp and the ring. =D
Finished this quest the other day. My Halfling Rogue entered Neriak using the Mask of the Deciever (Still had to sneak/hide because the guards still didn't like me to much). The Correspondent is not that common of a spawn (Took me 6 trips to Neriak for him to be there). I tried to do the quest while Hidden but he doesn't respond. I appeared to hail him (He Con'ed Warmly to me in DE form where the guards Con App). Got the Bag put in the THREE (That's right 3) hit Combine gave him the bag and got my nice fancy Ring.
Yes, it is possible to do it even KOS. I don't think it can be done by sneaking, as the guards are standing in front of the gate and will see you. I've heard of many people doing it by invising though. They go in, get the pack from him, do the combine and turn in, and then invis to run out. Don't make the mistake of just giving him the heads, though. You must get a pack from him to do the turn in, thus it cannot be MQed. He is dubious to all. Or was, anyway. That may change next patch. I have not done this myself, as I am not KOS in Neriak, but I've heard of plenty of people doing it.
Got the 3 heads , just track if u can cammo go get em , taget the unsuspecting Troll , back up to a wall with no adds around drag to wall snared - no adds , very few anyways. Seem to be rare drops only off Troll Mauraders / Pillagers / Plunderers - if that helps - can be frustrating but keep at it - got 1 in 4 hours 2 in 20 mins. Off I went to Neriak Foriegn Quarters , on ramp neg 135 neg 101 in the Troll Ghetto ......... no NPC there for hand in. * Lets hope they fix this if it is indeed broken. Good Hunting :)
The Teir`Dal correspondent apparently only had about 20 hitpoints, didn't hit for more than 4 points of damage, was on no faction so not even the guards would bother you if you attacked him and was on a 5 minute spawn cycle.
He was red to my 31 chanter and light blue to my 51 SK.
As such, folks were PLing themselves like there was no tomarrow off of him - most likely the word was put out to perma kill him on all servers since he was still there after the last patch.
Has this quest been nerfed? I can't find the Teir'dal correspondent any where in either zone of Neriak. I sat outside the Troll ghetto area in Foreign Quarter, at Loc -135, -105, for hours waiting for the Correspondent to pop. Never did. Is he on a timer or do you have to do somthing to get him to pop? or did they do away with the quest all together?
My 51 troll SK banged this quest out earlier tonight with very little trouble.
The heads aren't that rare a drop - I actually got two of my three heads from simply shouting to the zone that I'd like to be able to loot them - with the exception of one d00d, everyone was quite amiable about it.
The pirates seem to be low 40s or high 30s - they were mostly light blue to me with a few dark blues inside the fort itself.
They are major undercons though - when I was soloing I had to fear kite because otherwise they beat the @#$% out of me going toe to toe - these suckers hit hard and they hit fast.
On the plus side though, a low to mid 40s group would clean up in that area - great merchant item drops and the other two folks I was with were getting descent XP.
Ok, I've gone thru Gunthak and Dulak slaying Trolls left and right. I have a few questions for you if you've gotten this quest to work.
1) What zone did you complete the quest in its entirety, or what combination of zones did you use?
2) What area of whichever zones you visited did you find the drops at? (ex. the palisade fortress in Gunthak, or the shacks around it, or the tunnels in Gunthak, or the Luggald Outpost in Gunthak, or a specific ship in Dulak etc).
I have spent about 5 hours looking for these heads, to no avail. I was beginning to think that they dropped somewhere else besides Gunthak or Dulak, as I have scoured these zones pretty well. Any info you can relate will be helpful, please follow up on this post if you have any relevant information :)

How did you get faction up enough to be able to get into neriak without all the guards killing you? I play a wood elf ranger and my neriak faction could not possibly get anyworse. Hell i step into the nektulos(sp?) and the green guards attack me lol. Poor misguided children they are.
It seems only a few years ago that everyone went wild over the Red Wine quest. That's all you heard about for weeks and weeks for gaining faction in Neriak. It is still a great way to gain faction with the Dark Elves. I purchased 5 of the 10 slot tool boxes and filled them up with red wine, headed to the 3rd gate and gave Lokar To'biath just a little more than 2000 bottles of wine. I am now glowered at dubiously by all but the cleric guild. I'm a Wood Elf ranger worshipping Tunare.
I'm guessing as a wood elf ranger you spent a fair amount of time in crushbone killing orcs. For every Crushbone orc you killed your neriak guard faction took a hit.
So ... not sure what to do to increase Neriak faction off the top of my head, check the Faction section on this site, but I'm sure it'll be a fair amount of work.
Aye, its quested, the NPC is a Teir'dal correspondent, who is outside of the troll ghetto in Neriak's foriegn quarter. He asks for 3 troll pirate heads, which are fairly rare drops off trolls pirates in the LoY expansion.
Troll pirates, umm what zone do they drop in.. I've killed just about everything in Dulak and Gunthak and never seen one drop. I've also been grouped in Torg a few times slaughtering through the mines and nothing. Any help on where the heads drop would be helpful
