The best place to learn the value of resists is in a PvP setting. Casters can tag you hard from long distances so getting all the resist gear that you can should be your first priority. Nothing sucks more than being rooted and then nuked or DoTted to death and not being able to a damn thing about it.

I think people don't realize how important resists are until they actually start using them. They make the realization when they've fought a mob with an appropriate resist on and then fought without the resist.
What's that old saying, "Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lesson after."
The one thing I feel I have to comment on, is the attitude of many toward resists. I always hear "resists don't matter until high levels." I couldn't disagree more. Among other alts, I have a lvl 21 warrior, who has resists of over 50 unbuffed for each resist. Part of this is due to some nice drops during the Halloween GM events last October. I have noticed that these resists are incredibly useful, in high pass hold and high keep, as the orcs and goblins have a lot of casters, and some of their spells are fairly potent nukes and dots. With cleric buffs thrown on top of my resists, I have 70 or higher to all resists. I resist fully about 75% of the spells that are cast on him, and partially resist most of the rest. Since their nukes hit for 60-70 pts, and may have several during one fight, this makes a HUGE difference in the outcome of the battle. Verrant designed this armor to raise every resist up some from the starting base stat, and give a little extra wisdom, while GREATLY upgrading ac from the low level armors (I had banded on my cleric when I started questing this stuff). Right now, with my cleric in his 40's I am thinking about getting rid of his +6wis rings, for a set of imbued plat diamond rings, which have only 5wis, but +5 to all resists. Considering that I got rooted by a drachnid while running thru DL toward FV, and had to divine aura to wait for root to break, I'd sure like some higher resists on him.
Bottom line to a long post: resists matter, at all levels.
i agree with you compleatly... i have not worked on my resistes as much as i would like to but when fighting in high hold keep i had over a 80 in sv cold.. when they did hit any cold spells on me it was rarely more then a few points of damage...
They dont cost less than plate because fine plate boots cost around 100pp and to do this quest you need 2 enchanted plat bars and those alone cost more than 100pp each.
Actually, FP boots, as they use two Folded Sheets of MQ ore, cost the buyer 150pp. No less than that should ever be charged, and you can be guaranteed that anyone selling at 10p/AC is not a blacksmith, or they would have gone out of business before they could make any sort of profit.
Unfortunately, Luclin is killing the market for fine plate. I find it near to impossible to sell fine plate at the old 75/150/250 pricing schedule. What I have had success with is pricing at 60/130/200, which is profitable for me, as with 181 skill I rarely fail, except of 3 plate items. Also, I still charge 225 for cloaks, because they still suck to make. Have not failed on one plate items in the last 20 attempts. Fail about 50% on cloaks.
Anyway, with the new pricing schedule, I still don't sell a lot of plate, but do sell some. I'm hoping cultural will be better, but unfortunately, my cleric is not a dwarf. They have the best cultural smithed armor in the game, by a HUGE margin.
Also, its one bar of plat. which makes the boots of the reliant about the same price as fine plate. Of course fine plate is wearable by more classes, so can be handed down to an alt, or sold more easily.
i want these boots because they cost less then plate (rgiht i was not sure?) and i really need to git rid of my banded at lvl 30 u get embaresed about it.
oh and the bracers give 5wisdom each get two of those get the testement of vener your symbol of tunares a runed circlet of savents cap and u will be on your way to great hood not to mention getting earings and rings and veils. there is also this great item that drops in lower guk 9ac 7wisdom goes on shoulders
You guys are forgetting something. These quests are designed to replace Rubicite.. which had NO wisdom, or other stats. All in all these are alot better than rubicite, not to mention alot easier to get.
They are also forgetting that the hardest part of this quest seems to be earning the 100+pp to get the enchanted bar of platinum, or maybe the long wait til morning in Kithicor and the long run to Lake Rathe Afterwards. I mean geez, what do these people want as a reward to such an easy quest.
bah i disagree sure the quests are easy but the palladins, get more wis than the clerics, warriors they added str to the other pieces. i mean resists are nice but all the other stat buff are usless to my cleric i am of a lvl i can get it but only the bracers are worth my time, if they added even 1 or 2 wis to the pieces and subtracted the wis bonus from the other stats it would make the armor much more usefull. as it is the bracers, weapon and shield are nice, but the rest is junk.
They designed the mid level armor for shamans and clerics alike... High AC and little wisdom (shaman get plus 5 on head, that's it), with other stats and resists thrown in.
Resists never hurt, and while I agree, more wisdom over all would have been really nice, it isn't always needed at these levels. The AC is the most important aspect of the cleric/shm temple armor. Having lower wisdom/mana levels but higher AC can often be beneficial when playing a cleric (or shaman, for that matter). I know it's been said before, but what good is 200 wisdom when you are dead? Rarely does a cleric get to FM anyways in a group, so the extra mana you might have gotten isn't always helping. (not saying it isn't nice to have when you can get FM) Clerics have nice AC compared to all other casters, besides shamans. Both need the ability to take hits throughout their careers.
This set of armor focus mainly on AC, stats are more fluff generally. If you are comfortable in a group with less AC but more wisdom, swap out gear, if you have extra equipment of course. Later on, clerics and shaman both get upgrades that generally have more and more wisdom, to the point where top level clerics have way too much wisdom over the softcap. Not because they won't swap out wisdom items for AC or HP or Resists, but because they are wearing the best all around equipment, which tends to have a ton of wisdom to boot.
Oh well, long speech on a pretty dead issue. Hope it provides a little insight or perspective as to why these armors are still good at these levels (mid), and why Verant didn't give a bunch of wisdom boosts at this stage. /bow

Trust me when I say that extra wisdom will come in mightily handy, at mid levels 25 extra mana is at least another spell and when you are almost dead and the cleric is oom, you are SOL because of the fact their wis isn't up to snuff. Granted the AC is good, but instead of resists, which most classes esp.(unless they are soloing or meleeing heavily) clerics won't need till higher level. Personally, a little wisdom would be nice froma casters viewpoint. As usual verant has their thumb up their rear, hopefully, they change these armors soon, including the shaman armor quests.

Posted:Aug 26 2001 at 10:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They're NOT going to change the armor. Give up on it. Why must every class whine about something? Monks that every item below a certain weight is theirs, and if they can't use it they're getting ripped off. Clerics, that not every item they get gives them wisdom, and they can't get the ones that do at level one. Druids, they don't get any armor that looks like something besides their newbie armor until late in their levels. Who cares? If you're that worried about looks, you're missing the whole point of the game. If you don't like the class enough to complain about it play a different one. If you didn't know what the limitations were to the class you picked when you made it, you should have figured it out by playing and by looking at these posts. Now all of you stop whining and start posting useful information for once.
Nope, they won't change this armor, but they did add an upgrade, in the Luclin addition. The twilight quest cleric armor has the same ac as sol ro quest, but has wis on every piece. Of course, now everyone is complaining that its not enough of an upgrde. Its definitely easier to get for a non guilded player, or someone in a weak guild, than planar or kael/skyshrine armor. Of course, if you don't mind looking like a patchwork quilt, you can put together a better set out of fairly common drops.
I have, or am working on getting: Giant scalemail sleeves, Seb scale coat, Gaunts of the black, jarsath pants, GEBS (still saving for them), and a pair of the bracers of the reverent. Great stats, but I look like a complete mismatch. Anyway, I place more importance on stats than looks, but some might not like to do this. For them the twilight armor is awesome. Final results similar to my armor, but it matches.
