I killed Black Dire with the help of friends when Luclin was the latest expansion out. I still keep these boots in the first slot of my inventory all these years later. 1 because clicky sow is useful and 2 because they are a momento to a wonderful journey I have had as a shaman.

"Always remember that when you became Heyokah, it was the passing of a noble, yet misguided being that allowed you to do so. You should hold a special place in your heart for him and what he was in life. To help you remember him, we will fashion this pelt into a pair of boots and give them to you. With every step you take, you must think on the Dire, else his death be in vain forever."

Well...today I was venturing through Castle Mistmoore when I happened upon this over-grown mistwolf. I cleaned out the area around him using Pacify and med up for the battle with him, expecting a tough fight. Well, it was interesting for the most part... I dispatched him fairly easily to my surprise with only having to root and heal myself twice. He conned light blue to me at 57 so it's definitely do-able solo. Now knowing what the Black Dire pelt is for, I'm a lil bummed that I looted it with my pally. But easy enough for me that I plan to set up a kill week for all the shammies in my guild for the sole benefit of those who would enjoy a set of clicky SoW boots. As a side note, my resists were all around 140s and he only tapped me for no more than 12dmg at a time... his normal attacks did the most damage... resisted all other spells as well...hope what limited info provided helps...good hunting to you all!!

I have read all these post and will tell you all this, I got the boots for my Shammy when he was lvl 5, and had alot of pissed off Shammy in my guild. Thats right lvl 5, and here is how you do it.
Zone in invis and head to his spawn point, if he not up go kill Advisor and the 3 chicks he hangs with in that room. Invis back up and head back to Black Dire spawn point. Pull him to zone and zone out. wait 2 min and zone back in, only mob you will see is Black Dire, he will stay at zone line for a little while before pathing back. After zoning back in, wax him. Did it with my lvl 51 Warrior and a lvl 53 Shammy friend. Logged to Shammy and looted. Headed to RM did the piddly crap there, headed tp FP then OOT, then to NK, then we were off to EJ, did turn-in in EJ and got killed about 4 seconds after I got the Boots, Shammy friend gated out we met back up in EF and I had my clicky sparkle boots. But they do not work till LVL 9. was mad so I had to go out and kill some bears for an hour and get lvl 9.
That was along time ago though, and I have heard that it can be clicked lower than lvl 9 now, but not sure, going to get a friends lvl 1 Shammy the boots to see if this can be done.

Actually if you reread the post, you'll see that he invised to spawn point with his warrior. Note, that he also said he had a Shaman friend with him, that could have invised him, or he could have used cloudy potions. Also note, he said he logged on the lvl 5 shaman to loot the pelt, indicating that this was not the character he pulled the dire with. When I first read the post I thought he was saying that he invised in with the lvl 5 shaman as well, it became clear at the end of the post.

Cloudy potions.

Used one last night on my 21 shaman so I could run through EJ to do the turn in.

Think before you speak.

seeing that you at lvl 5 got the boots, i must ask if you have done the rest of the quest?? getting the boots at your level is no good really. btw, you did not get them. you had 50+ lvl friends get them.
RE: easy to get
# Jul 13 2004 at 9:56 PM Rating: Decent
u guys are both idiots. he said specifically he did it with his 51 warrior and a 53 shammy friend, then logged his lvl 5 who was parked nearby to loot. Thats an awesome move and i say congrats for being able to pull this off so easy. Second how is it that getting these boots at his level is "no good really?" what a dumbass comment haha
no lvl require

I (56 Mage) couldve solo'd this lil' doggie... had 50 shaman friend cuz he needed boots... gave my pet plate armor and muzzle, gave his pet muzzle... i wanted his pet to absorb HT but he didnt attack and i got hit with it (so i got GHealed twice). Burnout, 33pt DS, alacrity, and a couple shammy stat buffs took him down easy, pulled single with malosi, shm landed slow on first cast, took 3 tried to get DOT landed, used 550hp heal on pet twice, shm GHealed my pet twice... i nuked a couple times with char, i was WAY overprepared for this fight... the dogs around him conned light blue, but as a HIE they were all apprehensive (not sure if race makes a diff)

Just wondering if i do this again and hand in the pelt can i trigger SOW for myself from inventory? This would be great but its probably like Cucible of Escape, so Dru and Wiz are the only ones who can trigger at all... thanks.

Took the Black Dire down the other day with the help of my guildies (57 Pally, 51 Tank, 53 Cleric). The Pally single pulled two of the Blood Wolves, and then brought the Black Dire out to meet his fate. The Dire resisted all of my spells (I'm a 44) with the exception of Togor's Insects. So he was slowed and the two melees had Alacrity on them - you do the math.

The Dire does have a lot of HP but can easily be handled as long as he is solo pulled. If you make the mistake of pulling all four Blood Wolves along with the Dire then I hope you camped a cleric at the zone!!!

Best Regards,

Krushu Atrociter
Is this self only SoW?

It's self only. However the instant cast time is VERY nice, especially when you'rr being chased by baddies and can't offord to stop and refresh your sow.

Note also that you don't have to equip them to SoW yourself, you can use the effect from an inventory slot too.
RE: Is this self only SoW?
# May 07 2003 at 6:14 PM Rating: Default
I would actually be inclined to say the self-only restriction is a BENEFIT of these boots, rather than a detriment. A shaman has plenty of ways to sow his party mates. But these boots allow the shaman to use sow as a junk buff against dispellers. They also make it practical to travel using Scale of Wolf, since a surprise break of Scale can be recovered from with just a click.

well, i just made 34 and i was bored one day, so me and a friend of mine- 61 Warrior - decided to start my epic. i started the first 3 stages, and completed them without much diffuculty, then we zoned into MM to take out the dire. i buffed him, and he single pulled the dire to the zone. after the initial HT, the dire didnt really do to much. i didnt try to land anything on him, and just healed my friend- he went down in about 2 mins. no need for massive grps.
This has saved my life
# Dec 09 2002 at 9:37 PM Rating: Decent
On my shaman this item has saved my life more then once. I normaly have spirit of cheetah memed when outdoors and I have a hot button to my boots. There has been times where I have eathier took a wrong turn or found a friend of what ever i was running from while i was under spirit of the cheetah's effect. If i had to stop to cast sow i would probbly be dead, however with these boots the moment i slow down from spirit of the cheetah i can get spirit of the wolf back without even having to stop! Truely a great item

Several months ago, my guild and a few friends went into MM to pull the Black Dire for his fur. We had two full groups and were able to pull the Dire with Harmony from my druid friend. From there, it was a very simply and complete spanking of the Black Dire.

I got the piece of fur, headed to EJ and got my boots. I simply love them.

The SoW is clickable even when running and at zero-mana cost. Nothing like never having to stop to cast SoW on yourself again from the spell you memorized.

The stats are not the best, but it really is a badge of honor to have them on.

good boots
# Aug 18 2002 at 7:07 PM Rating: Default
These things were a lifesaver on more than one occasion for me, I don't know what I would have done without them. Makes a good fireworks show too. Stats could be a little better I guess, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. SoW did just fine. A must have for all shammies.
