Got one of these about 2 weeks ago on Lanys server and let me tell you it owns...use it all the time even while tanking mobs that arent undead. Have a Greatstaff of the Four winds to back me up If I really feel like whackin on mobs =) Definitly one of the best Pally weaps out there that are available. I highly suggest any Pally who needs a serious upgrade to get on BoT tower raids.
The proc on this is MR -100. Compare that to MR -50 on the spell deny undead. This is a great weapon. I'll probably sell my heavywinder's lance and use this one as my main weapon. the lance is slightly more dmging because of the bonus of course- but then again, it can also be traded in for some nifty shiny gold pieces. the job of a pally is usually to tank.. so the slight decrease in dps won't hurt TOO bad for a defensive class. only annoying thing- seeing that "this spell only works on undead" proc message 500000 times.
I have this sword and with the sword and a twice forged bulwark as a shield I have parsed out very close to the dmg I get with my windblade, as far as slays go, I have had a top slay of 2680 with this sword and 1410 with the shield ( dont forget we can crit bash as well). The proc triggers fairly regularly and is a 125 dd. The graphic is great, it appears as a thin ebony scimitar with a blood red flame pattern on either side of the blade. From a defensive tanking perspective, this is an excellent combination as my hp and ac gain a substantial boost with this sword and my shield equipped. The mana pool increase from both is also substantial.
Using eqwatcher, buffed with lvl 56 shaman buffs and Ench haste, I parse 45-65 dps on yellow con undead in Halls of Hero's with this bad boy. And I have to get healed MUCH less with my boxed cleric. Like 1.5 c heals/fight compared to 3 per fight with greatstaff of the four winds.
Well I just thought I'd add my 2 cents here. I won this sword last nigth on a BoT tower raid. How lucky was I? Really un-lucky unfortunately. 5 or ten mintues after looting the sword I went LD. Logged back in.... Im still at the named spawn point, no sword, no raid. To top it off I had to take a 20k right after that. Right now Im just waiting around for a GM to get off their *** and get my sword back!
note the pal/all. I believe only wars have defensive ( if they give pallies defensive Ill just quit my war ;-/) so it would be useful for a MT, yes, but not a defensive tank.
I believe what he meant is for when the pallie is a tank and is concentrating on getting hps/AC as high as possible with 1 hander + shield as opposed to DPS 2 handers...
a 2h would be better defensive wise.the delay of this 1hs would mean more rips, therefore cuting down the hp/ac you would have with the sword/sheild combo and lowers yours DPS.I use mine as a slay toy when not the MT. personally i just call the weapon planer ghoulbane =P
hadn't thought of that. but nice thinking... and you're right. i was getting killed using this weapon a lot faster in bot than i do using my slower 2hs... to the point where i didn't think the mob was slowed. although now i do recognize it was the extra riptoses. when you're getting crunched for 600 riptoses kinda suck... kinda strange when a 2hs is better than a sword and shield defensively... *frowns*
Got this tonite. Even thought it does not have the DPS of my sword of ssra, really decent against undead. The graphics is Very unique as i never seen any other weap like it. Looks like a red scmitar. Procs like crazy with avatar. My slay goes wild as im able to swing alot faster than my slow 2 hander.
What you have here is a souped up Ghoulbane. I would love one to give it a test. The thing im worried about is how would this effect my slay hits? Would it proc much more then a 2H to make up for the dmg? And would the stats gained from a shield help make up for it? Would I use this tanking an undead mob in an xp group over say Goldenrod? Would I use it to multi tank unmezable undead mobs in a raid? I really dont know but put me down for one anyway.

I'm waiting till the day they let us reach level 100 and finally give us hybrids an AA for dual wield. Warriors would no longer exist as tanks unless they finally got some decent AA's for aggro control and ungodly amounts of hit points.
