A nice upgrade to Split Paw Gloves on TLP

Ran this quest with my lowbie monk on Aradune to get something magic to wear, ended up buying a pair of Spit Paw Gloves while waiting for the final scroll (all bought for a few silver from merchants in S Qeynos so worth checking their stock if you aren't ready to fight the gnolls in SK) but these are better, and half the weight.

As with other posts, had trouble finding Durkis who was hiding the other side of a mountain top on the south side of the road to Kaladin (used /tar Durkis as a social bound to my A / D keys to find him eventually. Thanks to the players that dueled me in the Qeynos arena to (free) port me back to my bindpoint in Freeport

I have completed this quest 3 times. Only one of those times has Durkis been in his correct home location - the first guard house as you travel the road going southwest from Kaladim. The other 2 times I had to track him and found him stuck up on a mountain. I think he must get stuck here trying to get back to his house and cannot get over the mountain as there is a zone edge there.

At any rate, I found him at loc 1600, 1100. If you don't find him in the guard house look in this area.

Another note: these gauntlets sell for around 150 pp on Torvonilous as of this posting.

Whered the Turn in Erudite in Crows Tavern Go??

I got the 4 Skins and No Turn in Fella...

After waiting an Hour in hopes of a "spawning" i Destroyed the first 3 and stuck #4 in the bank(i bought all but 4 cause 1-3 always Dropped where as the 4th was rare)

Anyways back to my question, WHERE THE FRICK IS THAT ERUDITE?!?!

They moved him. If I remember correctly, he's in the Herb Jar now in South Qeynos (#10 on the eqatlas map) or the wizard guild next door (#11). But I think it's #10.
Tanned Skins

I bought all 4 of the tanned skins from Krak Windchester (the aviak merchant) up in the top of the aviak fort for 1silver 3copper each.

I did this quest last night. First it should be known that I am a Vah Shir Beastlord and I had a Gnome Necro friend alot doing the quest. Everything went smoothly until I tried to turn the note into the Dwarf. I was too big to get in the doorway. Fortunatly a good druid turned me into a wolf and I was able to complete the quest. My Necro friend however was unable to turn in the note due to KOS faction with the Dwarves. Invis and wolf form both were inefective.

Also I did this at 25 and maybe could have been done lower if you have a good group

Hope this helps

Scrolling for Scrolls
# Mar 12 2002 at 12:59 AM Rating: Default
I must be one of the most hated people in SK right now.. for the sheer fact that my 8th level Shaman Barbarian has collected all the numbered Scrolls (and a backpack of Page-Scrolls!) as well as a good few FS Weapons, Gnoll Hide Gloves.. Split Paws as well as SP Eyes to sell back in Newb Area Blackburrow.. and to boot, I can manage to get myself some gauntlets without any trouble.
Ayonae Ro server has the kindest people ever.. especially with Mr. Ninja Loot wandering around asking if he can have the corpse!

Ayonae Ro is a good server with some kind people on it. but even the kindest hearts get annoyed with beggers ;-) so just be careful.

i.e., i've had my lvl 28 (almost 29, one more till 30!) ranger in SK since ooh.....25? I think Paludal on luclin is best exp up till 25, killing in the camps. but it's starting to become a but crowded, and ppl some to have trouble sharing the bandit camps. i hit 25 and come down, started in SK. Already had these gauntlets, thinking about picking up another pair to sell or give to me alts...any, back to my story lol. i was in SK just last night, running around with a few guildies (2 other rng's). we took down that named centuar that drops the runed oak bow. kianie (one of my guildies) looted it, and she gave me her old trueshot. i gave my darkwood recurve to some 18 rng. he was very ungrateful, didn't even say thanks, we even buffed him some. never give him anything again. :-)

lol, grats man. i lvled at paw from 24 to 36 and the amount of loot that wrots there is amazing, especially since only five to ten lvls lower the it takes almost ten times as many kills to get as worthy loot (such as FS). i was pissed at myself for not going there as a newbie and doing exactly what it sounds like you did, just picking up the wrotting loot ). good idea man, you will go far =)

I did this quest to upgrade from my raw silk gloves. Alas, I did it at lvl 49, so I'm sure there are much better gloves out there, especially for a caster. When I have the time, I will get better gloves. I had problems finding the 3rd scroll. I was able to finally purchase it for 50pp off of a kind ranger.
Great Quest
# Sep 25 2001 at 9:46 PM Rating: Decent
I got these at level 20! I asked a group of 25 to 30's who were camping outside if I could loot the scrolls. I lent a hand as I could, and eventually they invited me into the group.

Two hours later I had all four scrolls, 20 or 30 plat in loot, 2 yellows of exp, and then a big long runabout for the gaunts! :)

I highly recommend this quest, the gaunts are awesome!
RE: Great Quest
# Jan 02 2002 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
Did the same thing, Aedon. Camping the spires near Paw in your 20's is great for exp and loot. Collecting the scrolls is just something you can do without really thinking about it. Once you get all four, travelling to and from Qeynos, Freeport and, eventually, Butcherblock is well worth the time.

Easy quest to complete and nice reward.

Druids
# Aug 21 2001 at 12:34 PM Rating: Decent
This is a very easy quest, and i recommend it to druids because you can bind yourself by the guy in qeynos you give scrolls to, tp yourself to wc, run to east freeport, hand the book in there, gate to guy in qeynos, hand in book, and then tp yourself to bbm and run to durkis battlemore. It can be done in 10min, and can be sold for about 250-300pp.

this is true as far as it goes but getting the 4 scrolls can take days - I know I did it twice (once to wear and once to sell) and the second time someone gave me two of the scrolls while I looted the other two. These items are also needed for another quest (forgot which) so they are popular.

# Dec 05 2001 at 10:33 AM Rating: Decent
I take all my Low to Mid-20's Characters to SK to hunt. The people who say these scrolls take days to get must be really unlucky. I have taken 3 chars through SK doing the gnolls in my 20's and these scrolls drop like MAD! I usually have all four scrolls on each of my chars within 1 or 2 hours of gnoll bashing. The only reason that it may take so long to get is b/c everyone loots the dern things before you get the chance =\

The scrolls are also used in the Tear of Karana quest, a +STA earring you get in Qeynos. Used to be where you needed all four scrolls for the earring a la the gauntlets, but now you only need one scroll for the earring (any of the four will do).

WARNING!
# Jun 23 2001 at 12:39 PM Rating: Excellent
The alst part of the quest is delivering the note to Durkis in BB. He is in the back of a small building near Kaladim along the trail to the docks. If you are playing a large character (Barbarian, Ogre, or Troll) you will not be able to fit in the door, and since the note is No Drop you will have wasted your time. I learned this one the hard way. The note is the only item that is No Drop.

If you are a rogue and have the mask of deception change to dark elf form and enter the door (be sure to be hidden). Once inside you can either wait for illusion to wear off or log off/on. You are than close enough to Durkis for the trade. Cast the illusion again in the corner and sneak/hide your way out of gaurds view.

Shrink spell can't be cast outdoors. Buy a Shrink potion, that will do the trick.

Thanks to a patch, shamans can now cast shrink outdoors. So just get a shaman friend to cast it on you. Being a Vah shir shaman, i know that this spell comes in real handy in all they little peoples villages.
RE: WARNING!
# Jul 14 2001 at 3:32 AM Rating: Default
Shrink should work, since you can't cast SoW in Kaladim...that makes it an inside zone.

Worst case, use a potion which should also work.

And lastly, try the F9 views...you might get one that will allow you to trade with the NPC.
RE: WARNING!

it is in BB, near Kaladim, not in kaladim. But wolf form or a shrink potion will do the job just fine.

Soloing at 20... yeah right...
# May 29 2001 at 8:48 AM Rating: Default
No way you were soloing these gnolls at 20 without having so much dwontime it took forever to complete... In a group... no problem at 20, but soloing would be very difficult for any class... All lvl 20 speels are going to be resisited more times than they hit on these guys... At lvl 23 My bard has most things resisted except for Largo's binding... Even bruscos is resisted 7 times out of 10... the the master kiter of a bard would take forever to kill these without a group... Druids spells and Wizzie spells would resist... A necro may be able to pet one to death if they ahve enough bone chips... A lvl 20 Warrior would get rocked trying to solo it... (in my group a fully twinked 24 Warrior with full set of crafted and An Ex Axe was still losing half his HP with 4 ppl in our group before we could kill a gnoll and that was with largos binding and Anthem on)
RE: Soloing at 20... yeah right...
# Aug 24 2001 at 10:41 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah 20 might be a little low, but I know 23 isn't (if you cast) I wouldn't be able to do it at 23 do to my low damage nuke, and my low hit points :), however, when I fought them in a group I never had any resists, except the occasional resist on snare (but I only got them as often as when I'm fighting blues, so that really doesn't say anything) So if you can keep them at a distance, and do not run out of mana, you should be fine.

ok, if that warrior with crafted was lost half of his HP if he was that "twinked" is wrong, and you might want to try, if your trying to solo paw or at the spires, a fungi tunic. if that is too hard for you to get save up about 2k - 3k for a iksar ceramony chest plate AKA iksar regen CP, that should help with the down time if you are a warrior

RE: Soloing at 20... yeah right...
# Jul 11 2001 at 12:50 PM Rating: Default
Ok, just because people say that Bard's are the master kiter's dosen't mean that they actually or, or that it makes them a good solo class. As a Druid at level 21 I was soloing in Splitpaw and getting the scrolls. Before I decided to attack there I got my fist set of GIG's at level 19 when I got my ports and Superior Camo. Grasping Roots, Snare, Stinging Swarm and DD until the Root breaks and re-root. Occcasionaly Snare was resisted and sometimes my DD didn't hit for full but I had no problem at all hunting there. Want to know why a Bard is NOT the Master Kiter? You DoT is AoE, your Root/Snare is non-exisitent, and your DD is nowhere near as powerful as anyone else's at the level you get it. I played my Bard until 16 and then stopped. Just not worth the time.

Great Quest

I have done this quest about 15 times, and everytime I have sold the gloves for 300pp. I am a lvl 34 wizzy now and started doing this quest when I was in my early 20's. Getting the scrolls off the gnolls is the only hard part. You have to have all 4, they are lore, so you know you got em all when you have 4 on you. Or you can right click them, and the number appears in the corner.

I do this quest to make money. If I dont want to bother killing the gnolls, I just go into SK and shout "40pp for all 4 scrolls", normally people will sell them. It takes me less than an hour to do the quest, when I have all 4 scrolls. Because I can gate to all the various places. This quest is designed for druids and wizzies, because we can travel fast. It is alot of travel, so if you are not one of those, be prepared to do some leg work.

Sometimes the gloves wont sell at all and sometimes they go like hotcakes; I have sold 3 pair in one night before (one on both my characters, and had to do quest really fast for last pair); and there have been times when I had to keep em for weeks. My wizzy still wears them, they are decent gloves - good for casters and monks. They are lore, so you can only have one pair at a time on you.

Nice as a money making product, but they are not as good as the chanters get with their SoM (talk about making cash). But not too bad, you have to be patient with the market though. Just keep your eyes and ears open. I have seen people shouting - wtb Gem Inlaid Gaunts. I always sell the pair im wearing, because I know I can get quest done again for under 50pp and an hour's worth of time.

Although I believe that Umvera is on some Erudite faction, unless you've killed certain Erudites, you probably won't be KOS to him. He conned indifferent to me as a Cazic-Thule worshipping iksar monk, and that's about the worst base faction you can have with most people, short of being an iksar necro or SK. So if I'm not KOS, you're probably not. Factions you do have to worry about though:
Guards of Qeynos- Obviously, if the guards kill you before you can get in the city, you can't do the quest. Killing Blackburrow gnolls or Karana bandits raises this.
Circle of Unseen Hands (Qeynos rogues): Crow's Bar is the entrance to the rogue guild, and there are several rogues in here. Killing Karana bandits will raise this.
Corrupt Qeynos Guards- some of the Qeynos guards are on this faction, and three guards who are in front of Crow's Bar in the daytime are definitely on this faction. Including Lieutenant Dagarok, who's a level 50 shadowknight, and can harm touch for 700 damage. So if you're KOS to the corrupt guards, either come here at night or get invised in and out of the bar. Doing the note quests (Harkin to Janam and Nestral to Rebby) for the FP rogue guild will raise this.
Storm Guard (Kaladim warrior guild, and Kaladim/Butcherblock guards) Butcherblock is full of dwarf guards, and Durkis Battlemore regards people the same way Storm Guard does, despite Durkis's independence of faction. Kill Runnyeye goblins or Crushbone orcs to raise the faction if necessary.
Freeport Militia: West and East Freeport guards are guarded by the militia. Doing the note quests I've mentioned for the Corrupt Qeynos Guards raises this. If you're KOS to the militia to begin with, create a mule (human rogue either agnostic or Bristlebane worshipping) to do the note quest (Nestral to Rebby is more practical, as Rebby's response is not only not lore, but stackable). Gather the responses (Rebby's rat whiskers) and transfer them to your charaxter to turn in to Nestral.

Jheron Falkis also regarded me indifferently. Except for Durkis, evil races probably have enough faction already with the quest NPCs to do this quest, all you have to worry about is the factions of people near these NPCs who will attack you if you get too close to them.
RE: good/evil?
# Jun 19 2001 at 12:57 PM Rating: Default
I've done most of this quest and I'm a Dark Elf. You can get the quest and do it as long as the NPCs con at least dubious to you (i.e. you're not KoS). However, I'm KoS on Faydwer, so I'm trying to raise my faction to finish the quest.

Here's the question: Can an evil race raise their faction high enough to con dubious to dwarfs? Can this be done without trashing your faction in your home town?

Any info would be appreciated.
RE: good/evil?
# Jul 08 2001 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, its very simple, just kill lots and lots of Orcs in CB, or lots of golins in BB, or lots and lots of Aviaks, and that will raise a lot of faydwer factions, but not any Neriak as far as i know

The most efficient way to raise Kaladim, without hurting any DE factions, is to go to Runnyeye and kill every goblin you see for a few hours. Eventually you won't be KOS to the guards and warriors. Unlike Crushbone orcs, you can raise dwarf faction killing RE goblins without hurting Indigo Brotherhood (the Neriak warrior guild).

Don't do it by killing orcs in CB. Orcs in CB give you a hit against the Indigo Brotherhood, the Neriak warrior guild. Remember Ambassador D`Vinn, the Dark Elf?

Yes, but unless you're a dark elf warrior, that shouldn't really matter, as the warrior guild is easy to avoid in Neriak. The guards in Neriak and Nektulos are NOT on Indigo Brotherhood (they're on Dread Guard Outer/Inner). Ambassador D'Vinn is about the only one on this faction you'll ever meet outside of the Neriak warrior guild. Dark elves (other than warrirors) need not concern themselves with this faction (as long as you don't do something stupid, and march right into the warrior guild in Neriak!)

The price on these seems to vary widely. I've seen them sell for anywhere from 100pp to 300pp, and there are always plenty to be had, so they're not rare. A mid-20s level druid could solo the Tesch Mals without too much trouble, and because they are lore, people will often sell or give away the scrolls.

Minor correction, but an important one: the scrolls drop off of Tesch MAS gnolls, not Tesch MAL gnolls. I wasted quite a bit of time on the wrong kind of gnolls before I realized my mistake. Almost all of the gnolls in SK just outside of Paw are Tesch Mas, and they're quite common in the first room (between the SK zone and the first set of doors) inside Splitpaw.
