My wizard alt never got to a level where I could cast any of the spells that needed these, but I bought a stack of them anyway just to make sure I'd have them. With the release of Serpent's Spine, though, one of the changes listed was that "Translocate spells no longer require a reagent." I assume that's referring to this item? If so, do Small Portal Fragments still have any in-game use? I haven't checked to see if they're still sold by NPC vendors.
These are a required component for many (but not all) of the Wizard "Translocate" spells, more commonly known as "punts". The rule of thumb is: if the punt sends you to a location with a wizard spire/pyramid, it will not require a fragment; otherwise, it will. In my experience, all the wizards I've met keep their own supply of Fragments on hand.
Terblyn Zebus, the same gnome that sells the TL spells sells the Small Portal Fragments. He charges 1pp7sp a piece to me, at charisma 104. What I need to know is, are the fragments used up with casting a TL? Should I buy one fragments or several stacks????
It is not easy for a Wiz to get to Sol Ro - I hate having to ask a Druid for a lift, so humiliating
