I am looking for a skill up path to 300 smithing.
DON Smithing isn't what it used to be. Small Brick of Yttrium Ore used to be a viable Wood Elf skill up path to 300 smithing with the only other components store bought. But I worked on tailoring by harvesting Shissar Scales (see my brilliant but now useless guide to Shissar Scales elsewhere). And then before I had a chance to start harvesting lots of Yttrium Ore for smithing, DON smithing changed. (I used the large amount of Small Brick of Yttrium Ore for DON tinkering, so I wasn't slacking)
There is Tae Ew Blood Vial plus irritating scale temper or expensive distilled mana requiring a willing chanter to 295. After that it is planar smithing with decent experience but a really bad drop rate on crucial components. There is old cultural but there is no old cultural for wood elves. DoN smithing hasn't been sorted out at this time on EQTraders yet. Besides the drops I am expecting to use seem less common than I want. Sunshard Ore goes to my gnome for Spell Research. There are also various DODH seals, and other rarely done combines. I need at least a couple hundred combines to get those last five levels (I think, but maybe I will get lucky).
So I am thinking about Black Acrylia smithing, which requires two akheva bloods per combine attempt and other easier to get drops from green or grey mobs. I tried the akheva model guys in Griegs End, and was able to handle them and got five bloods from 24 kills, so not bad, but the respawn time is at least an hour, maybe two hours, and the key to get to them is temporary. I tried Akheva Ruins and there are three Akheva's with a ten minute or so respawn timer above the Vex Thal container sacrifice spot, and a few next to raid mobs, but they are widely scattered and the traps are a major pain. In addition the drop rate on the Akheva Blood seems lower than in Griegs End, and there is virtually no exp to be had. Vex Thal isn't really a good option for soloing. I haven't tried Maiden's Eye yet, but have always hated the place. Is there a good spot to go for huge numbers of Akheva blood? Did I miss something? Should I try something else?

On the north side of The Maiden's Eye is a walled compound filled with two types of mobs: Xin Thall Centien (Akhevas) and Xi Xaui (shadows, undead) and one named A Shadow Overlord. I have only started exploring this area. A preliminary census shows at least 33 Xin Thall Centien, and about an equal number of shadows. None are true See Invis as I can cast regular invis on myself, and my necro casts IVU on me, and nothing can see me, not even the named. But for the most part there is a mixture of the two so gettting around invised with one flavor or the other invis isn't very practical except for surveys. The pulls tend to be from singles to more commonly multiples of both mobs, and up to six or so from what I have seen. Social aggro range is pretty large. Most of the time you can't see all of the mobs you might pull, so harmony/pacify won't help you much. I didn't time the respawn rate, but it is about 20 minutes. Everything is opposed to whisperling faction, so if you are trying to kill two birds with one stone, this might help you. The akheva blood drop rate isn't great but better than it was from the trio in Akheva Ruins, and there are enough mobs to keep the kill rate continuous. The mobs are about 60% grey and 40% green to 75. Nothing hits hard, gates or summons. The akhevas will run when low on health. There are healers and debuffers in this area which I find irritating. But at least the mobs are there, and they drop what I want. Now I only need about four hundred akheva bloods, and a bunch more Tae Ew Blood Vials and I have arrived at smithing of 300.
The healers are a big problem in fact. They aren't like most c-healers and only heal themselves, but they will heal others. You can also get through the wall agro and it's easy to get more then one healer in a single pull, hence having a good stun proc is not very helpful, unless you pay very close attention to the mob in c-heal and switch to that mob in time.
Probably the best class to molo here is a chanter with tank merc and Allure or better. My short survey on my rogue didn't end very well, but at least it looks like the stun immune Xin Thall Centiens are also the ones that will not c-heal.

I hate to buy stuff in the bazaar if I can farm it, and only a few over priced Akheva Bloods are available at a time anyway. So don't say the bazaar is a great place to go for this.

Tarew Marr server bazaar has the blood for 100-300pp
I have checked many servers and have yet to find a single vial of blood for less than 500pp...definetly not 50pp.

Try the Xin Thall Centien or commonly called the "4 arms" in ME. It's were I got mine.

Trying to get black acrylia halberds made, don't feel like paying 1k a blood in the bazaar, what creatures does this drop off of and where? Says it drops in Maiden's Eye, but Illia's doesn't show that it drops off anything in ME...any help appreciated!
